Big Date, Crashed Date

The day went to hell after she had breakfast with Sam. He had gone out to get her a Denver omelet and orange juice from the waffle house. For himself he had a breakfast sandwich and strawberry milk. The two of them ate together in mostly silence. Emma Jean had been eating with a fork so to keep her hands as free as possible. Sam tried to hurry to eat to get out of her way. When she noticed that she laughed at him. “Sam, take your time. What will I do if you choke and have to go to the hospital?”

“Choke? I used to be in the military. This is a normal, everyday way of eating.”

“Well thank you for your service but you aren’t in the military anymore. So, you should slow down. Seriously what will I do if you go to the hospital. I wouldn’t be able to get home. And I would be without another person on my team.”

“Is this your way of saying you care about me even a little bit?”

“I care about everyone that works with me. even more if they’re a friend.”
