Budding Love, Conclusion of Friendship
Emma Jean woke up in the hospital, her head was bandaged. She blinked several times before her eyes focused on the bright lights of the room. There was a warmth radiating from her arm. She looked to see what was causing it. Kenji was holding her arm; his head was resting on the bed. Emma jean groaned trying to move her hand. That caused Kenji to stir. He turned his head in a different direction. Emma jean smiled softly at him. Her heart was thumping loudly in her chest. “Kenji? Wake up. My arm is numb.”
Kenji stirred some more. He mumbled in his sleep. “Five more minutes mom. Mmm.”
She giggled. He looked innocent with his eyes closed. His long lashes seemed to dance against his cheeks. His hair was cut short, shorter than she remembered. Emma Jean wiggled her fingers to get free of his grasp. Once she could feel her hand was freed, she brushed them over his unblocked cheek. “Kenji, how can you be so defenseless?”
