I stared at Lucas, still holding my phone tightly with my heart pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears.

My phone vibrated again and it was a video clip from Dr. Frances. I didn’t waste time. I looked at Lucas, who was already sitting up with curiosity written all over his face.

“Lucas, please give me your laptop,” I said gently.

Without a word, he pulled it from the side of his bed and handed it over. I connected my phone to the laptop using a cable and transferred the video file. Lucas leaned closer, watching me in silence. Once it finished loading, I opened the video and pressed play.

The footage came up, grainy at first but clear enough. It showed the hospital hallway outside the main electrical control room.

Lucas sat beside me, his tiny face serious. I could feel the heat of his presence next to me, and even though he didn't say a word, I knew he was watching as carefully as I was.

The time stamp was exactly thirty minutes before the elevator lights went off.
