The PR team filed into the conference room and froze when they saw me in Lucien’s chair.

"Um... Mr. Hayes..." one woman with a tight bum stammered.

"Miss Sterling, since you are reporting to me today," I told her, spinning slightly in the leather chair. "My boyfriend has allowed me to take points on our media strategy since the current approach is failing spectacularly."

The team shifted uncomfortably. A balding man cleared his throat.

"With all due respect, Miss Sterling, we've been managing Mr. Hayes's public image for—"

"Five years," I finished for him. "And in those five years, you've created exactly what image? The ice king of finance? The untouchable bachelor? Great for business meetings, terrible for consumer apps."

Paying Blake to stir up drama had worked. It worsened Lucien’s image and put pressure on him and our 'relationship'. One step closer.

My heart hadn't slowed since fleeing his penthouse. I shoved open the apartment door, and my phone buzzed in my hand with Ronan's name flashing across the screen. "Stop sending me useless information. Lucien doesn't have a child with Jessica Bloom." "But I saw them—" "You saw nothing. I know my brother better than you do. Whatever you think you witnessed, you're wrong." I wasn't giving up that easily. "We could still use this. If we leak photos of Lucien with Jessica, it would make him look like a cheater. The public would turn against him." "This is why you follow orders instead of creating plans. That kind of scandal accomplishes nothing," he paused, voice dipping lower, "Focus on the anniversary event next weekend. That's where we take Rafael out of the picture. Maybe you'd finally do something meaningful then." My stomach tightened. "What do you mean by that?" The line went dead. I stared at my phone, unease crawling up my spine. What was Ronan planning for Rafael?

My feet felt like lead as I climbed the stairs. The man who'd stormed into the penthouse was gone. In his place stood the polished mask he wore for the world. Perfect, detached, and infuriatingly calm "Let's get this over with," I muttered, stepping past him into the room. His bedroom was minimalist. A massive bed with charcoal sheets, white-painted walls, and sleek furniture with intricate designs. The air smelled faintly of soap and steel—like him. I turned to find Lucien watching me, that sharp gaze muted but no less invasive "How do you want to do this?" he asked. I cleared my throat. "I had a specific shot in mind for the post." "Go on." "You lying on your stomach, and I'd straddle your back, reading a book." I hated how awkward the words sounded. "I don't need to show your face, just the tattoo and your back. We need to give the public the tip, just enough to make them hungry for more." He stared at me so long I thought he might protest, until he smirked. "Tea

I staggered backwards from the door. Jessica's lips on Lucien's burned into my retinas, leaving a hollow ache in my chest. Lucien Hayes doesn't deserve a woman, doesn't deserve to be loved by one. I hurried down the hall, nearly colliding with an assistant. In an empty changing room, I pressed my back against the wall, heart hammering. Ronan's text lit my screen: "I'm waiting for the confirmation? If you don't have it, don't waste my time." The door swung open. Lucien stood there—hard as ever. "The photographer's looking for you," he stated flatly. "I needed a moment," I replied, forcing my voice to remain steady. "Can you do it or not?" I scoffed. "Of course I can." Walking back to the set felt like crossing a battlefield. Jessica was nowhere in sight, but her presence lingered like expensive perfume. Her team dressed me in a beautiful midnight blue that flowed like water, before I took my position where the lanky photographer directed, with a perpetual scowl.

Camila's POVRonan’s text was clear—get to Hayes Corp before Lucien or Rafael arrived. I was up before dawn, reminding myself what I had to do: plant the chip and steal files on AS Logistics, the shipping and cargo logistics arm of Hayes Corps. The apartment was quiet as I tiptoed into the living room, but to my surprise, Maya was lounging on the couch in her pajamas, scrolling through her phone. "Hey, you're up early," I was relieved to see her face. I hadn't seen Maya since Monday evening. Maya didn't look up or acknowledge me. Weird. I moved closer, waving my hand. "Hello? Earth to Maya?" She didn't respond, thumb continuing its steady scroll. I circled around to face her directly, waving a hand in front of her screen. "Hello? What prank are you planning this time—" "Would you move?" She finally looking up with eyes that could freeze hell. I stepped back, startled. "Whoa, what's with the death glare?" Her silence was unsettling. Maya was usually pure sunshine, neve

Lucas fucking Chen. Of all the boutiques in Manhattan. I knew that smug tone anywhere. Chen Capital's golden boy himself. "Oh my God!" She squealed like a fangirl and jumped off my lap. "Lucas Chen? The Lucas Chen?" I remained seated, watching this nauseating display unfold. The world's most irritating man—owner of top-ranked fintech app that had knocked mine to third place—was now receiving the full force of Camila's charm. "I can't believe it's really you," she gushed, her hands clasped together. "You look even more handsome in person!" "Do you know me?" Chen asked, his perfect white smile gleaming under the boutique lights. "Yes! I've followed your work for years. Your investment in climate-friendly startups last year was brilliant. And the way you integrated blockchain verification into Chen Capital's security protocols changed the entire industry! Not to mention your charity work with—" She knew his charitable organizations? His business moves? Well, golddiggers stalk b
