Chapter 666

Author: Eli Sole
In a burst of anger, Sean tossed the court notice straight into the trash can. The sudden movement sent a sharp, tearing pain through his abdomen, right where his surgical wound was still healing.

He was sick, stuck in a hospital bed, and Kiera hadn’t even come to see him. He had endured that.

But for her to send him a court notice for divorce while he was still lying in a hospital bed?

Was she completely heartless? Did she really wish he were dead, just because he had made one mistake?

“Sean, what are you doing out of bed? Get back in bed immediately!”

Susan hurried over, reaching out to help him, but he shoved her hand away.

“I can walk by myself!” he snapped, his face twisted with pain as his abdominal wound throbbed, threatening to buckle his knees.

Noticing his agitation, Susan’s expression shifted to concern. “What happened? Did someone say something to you? Tell me, I—”

“Mind your own business.”

Sean gritted his teeth, struggling to shuffle his way back to the bed.

Under everyone’s watchful eyes, the bottle slowly pointed at Olivia. Before Layla could even ask, Olivia decisively chose dare.Layla was stunned. This was the same Olivia who had accused Xavier of being too guarded, yet she was clearly just as defensive, if not more.Seeing Layla hesitate, Seth stepped in to help. “How about we see how much you can handle, Sis? Three bottles of beer—sound good?”“You just want me drunk so you can end this faster,” Olivia teased, casually picking up a beer bottle. With a confident flick, she popped the cap and tipped it back, draining the whole thing without a pause. One bottle down, then another, and then the third—empty. Olivia spun the last bottle around with a grin. “I could outdrink all of you, and you’d be passed out before I even got tipsy.”Xavier laughed, suddenly more excited. “Oh, that sounds like a challenge!”The game continued, and after twenty rounds, most of them had already used up their three dare chances. When the bottle fina

“Move over if you can't handle it.”Olivia pushed Seth aside, her excitement obvious. “Just drinking like this is boring. How about we play truth or dare?”“Sure!”“No way.”Xavier and William spoke almost at the same time, but Olivia completely ignored the latter.“Great! We won’t overcomplicate it—just spin the bottle. Whoever it points to has to choose truth or dare, and the person who spun it gets to ask the question.”“You—”William started to protest, but Layla gently pressed his arm down. She looked at Olivia with a warm smile. “We’re here to have fun, so let’s make the most of it. I’m fine with your plan.”William frowned slightly, turning to meet Layla’s gaze. She gave him a reassuring look, silently telling him not to worry.Since they were already here, she figured they might as well go along with it. Plus, she was curious about Olivia’s intentions. Spending more time with her might help Layla understand her better, which would be useful for capturing her through t

“Would you like some fruit?” William suddenly asked.“Huh?” Layla snapped out of her thoughts, quickly pulling away. “Oh, sure, I’ll have some watermelon.”“Alright.”William picked up a fork, spearing a piece of watermelon from the fruit platter and handing it to her. His gaze lingered briefly on her earlobe, which had turned so red it looked like it might drip with blood. A faint smile curved at the corner of his lips.Fortunately, Seth finally remembered the actual purpose of their gathering and approached Layla to discuss the details of the next day’s shoot, making final adjustments. The moment they began talking about the shoot, Layla came alive, her earlier flustered feelings forgotten. The film was centered on a woman trapped in a desert her entire life, struggling to raise her two children in that harsh environment. The desert could be deadly, but people were even better at destroying each other. The woman faced hardship after hardship—neglectful, sexist parents, an abus

Everyone at the table could clearly see that Olivia had her own way of handling William—effortless and precise.Layla couldn’t help but feel a touch of admiration. After knowing William for so long, it was the first time she had seen him genuinely at a loss for words with someone.Olivia met Layla’s gaze and smiled. “So, you’re the famous Layla who’s got William wrapped around her finger? I can see why. You’re quite a beauty. Almost reminds me of my younger self. Men really are just visual creatures, aren’t they?“It’s such a shame,” Olivia continued with a playful sigh. “If my little Gwen were even half as pretty as I was, maybe she would’ve caught William’s eye. But I guess seeing me so often as a kid must’ve set his standards sky-high.”Everyone froze for a second, stunned by her bluntness.William remained unfazed, casually adding, “She’s not just beautiful. She’s also more capable than you were at her age.”“Oh, so love really is blind,” Olivia teased, resting her chin on he

Olivia removed her mask first, then her sunglasses, revealing a flawlessly made-up face. Though faint traces of time showed, they only enhanced her mature allure. Her mesmerizing, fox-like eyes were captivating, making it impossible to look away.In person, she was even more stunning than in her photos. Her face was small, barely the size of a palm. It was as if fate had showered her with blessings, and it would have been a shame if she hadn’t entered the entertainment industry.Compared to her, Gwen fell short. Aside from a slight resemblance in their eyes, her niece couldn’t match her aunt’s allure.“William, are you going to pretend you don’t know me?” Olivia teased, her lips curling into a playful smile.“I thought you didn’t want to be recognized while you were working.” William replied with an air of indifference, casually placing the last peeled shrimp into Layla’s bowl.Olivia’s gaze shifted to Layla, a knowing smile playing at her lips. “No one here is an outsider.”“A f

Shane looked utterly lost, unable to believe that the sister he had always adored would push them to the brink.“This has to be some kind of tantrum. She’s just angry because of everything that happened. She’s trying to scare us, to make us realize how much control she has. She just wants us to put in more effort to make her happy,” he muttered, turning as if to head out, only for Chris to grab his shoulder.“There’s no point in going after her.”“Why not?” Shane shook off Chris’s hand, his voice rising. “Are we just going to stand by and watch her take over the company? Why does she get to do this? Haven’t we treated her well enough? Whatever she wanted growing up, we gave her—even if it meant taking it from Layla!“We ended up at odds with Layla because of her! We went so far for her, and this is how she repays us?” Shane’s eyes turned red, tears threatening to spill. “Chris, how could she do this to us? We’re family. How could she?”“Exactly…” Mrs. Xander’s voice trembled, her

“Xena Xander!”Chris’s furious shout cut through the tension. He helped his father stand, only to watch in shock as Mr. Xander slapped Xena hard across the face.“You ungrateful wretch! You actually schemed against your own family! I should’ve known—you’re just like your criminal parents! Rotten to the core, just like them!“We raised you for over twenty years, always protecting you, always putting you first. And you repay us by sucking the life out of this family like a parasite!”Mr. Xander’s chest heaved, his breathing growing ragged.“Oh, please!” Xena’s face twisted in contempt, all pretense gone. “You’ve been sucking me dry this whole time too. You only chose me over Layla because I was more useful to you. You wanted me to marry into the Perry family, and I did what you asked. But now? Now you’re embarrassed by me!“You use people and toss them aside. I just learned from the best.”“It’s you who’s shameless and ruthless, always dragging this family down!” Chris’s voice was

Mr. Xander’s voice thundered across the room, his anger palpable. He didn’t care about the document in Xena’s hand. He only wanted her gone. Around the table, the executives exchanged uneasy glances, caught in the middle of a family drama they hadn’t expected.Xena’s gaze shifted to her father, a smile playing on her lips, though her eyes remained cold. “Dad, this document directly impacts the seat you’re sitting in. Are you sure you don’t want to take a look?”“Nonsense!” Mr. Xander fumed, but his rage only intensified as he saw Chris opening the document. “Are you actually listening to her nonsense? Get her out of here now!”But Chris had frozen, his expression crumbling bit by bit, his hands trembling as they gripped the papers.Xena leaned in, her voice dripping with mockery. “So, Chris… everything looks fine with that document, doesn’t it?”“Where… where did you get the money?” Chris’s voice was a shaky whisper.“That’s none of your business.” Xena’s smile widened, all pre

“I heard Wilfred ended up in the hospital.”Mr. Xander frowned, unable to believe how far the Perry family had fallen and how their troubles were now tangled with his own family’s mess. One of his daughters had inherited Mr. Perry Sr.’s shares, while the other had become the scandalous centerpiece of an affair—losing both her child and her ability to have more.It seemed like both fortune and disgrace had come knocking on the Xander family’s door. But Layla had long severed ties with them, so they couldn’t even benefit from the good side of it.Comparing the two, Mr. Xander couldn’t help but feel a mix of anger and regret, most of it directed at Xena. “Dad, stop overthinking this. Forget about Layla,” Chris sighed, reading his father’s expression with ease. “She never cared about this family before, and she certainly doesn’t now.“After proposing the internal competition at Perry Corporation and with William suddenly taking over YT Corporation, everyone is practically lining up
