Mag-log in“You must really think you are worth being called my wife.” Julian mocked her, his voice laced with disgust. “All you did was take my money like a spoiled brat and spend it on other men! It is obvious I’m way out of your league, Sydney. So stop wasting my time and sign the divorce papers!”
With a heavy heart, Sydney signed the papers and flung it at Julian. “Pick it up and get out,” without looking at him, she said. “Also, don’t worry about me staying here, I will be leaving in the morning.” As Julian walked out of her bedroom, a lone tear dropped down Sydney’s eyes. Just in one day, she had lost both her baby and her husband. The next morning, Sydney had arranged all her belongings in several suitcases. She zipped up the last suitcase and took one last look at her bedroom. It used to be theirs before Julian moved out. She would miss living in the same place with Julian, but as much as it would hurt her it was high time she moved on. The workers looked at Sydney with pity as she came out of the room. They helped her carry her luggage outside, but were stopped by Ashley who was sitting in the living room. “Why are you carrying these bags outside?” Ashley asked, looking at the numerous suitcases. “Is Julian going somewhere?” “No, Ma’am,” one of the maids answered. “These luggage belong to the boss’ wife.” Ashley’s brow raised where she heard them referring to Sydney. “Why are you carrying her stuff outside?” She questioned, looking curious. “Did something happen?” “What's going on?” Sydney asked as she walked into the living room. Ashley looked at Sydney. “It is good that you are here. Why are the maids carrying your stuff outside?” Ashley asked, looking worried. “I hope nothing happened.” “It is none of your business.” Ashley bit her lips, her eyes widened. “Sydney, I… I was trying to…” Sydney walked up to Ashley and narrowed her eyes on her. “You were trying to do what?” She questioned. “Were you trying to find out if Julian and I are still married?” Ashley rubbed her chest, stepping back from Sydney. “I don’t know what you are talking about,” Ashley muttered. “You are making it sound like I want you and Julian to separate.” Sydney crossed her arms, titling her head to the side. “Don’t you?” Ashley quickly waved her hands. “No, I don’t want that,” she objected. “Why will I want you and Julian to divorce. You two have been married for five years so why do you think I will want to put an end to your relationship?” “Cut the act, Ashley,” Sydney said. “I know you have a thing for my husband.” Ashley blinked. “My relationship with Julian is solely based on business. I promise.” “But you wish it was something more, don’t you?” Sydney said. Ashley’s hand tightened. “I don’t like how you are talking to me, Sydney.” Ashley expressed. “I helped your husband, at least I deserved a little respect for that.” “And in what way did you help Julian?” Sydney questioned. “By claiming to be the the Steinfeld family’s daughter?” Ashley’s brows fourriere. “I’m not claiming to be anything. I’m indeed the Steinfeld family’s daughter.” Sydney snickered. “I will let you continue living in your fantasy, Ashley. You might had been able to fool Julian, but don’t think you can fool me. And please don’t act like you are worried about me, it is clearly obvious you are happy that Julian divorced me.” Ashley gasped, covering her mouth. “Julian divorced you?” She exclaimed. “Why did he do that?” Sydney rolled her eyes. “Are you really asking me that question?” She shot back. “I swear I have no idea he was going to divorce you,” Ashley said. “Don’t worry, I will talk to him.” “Didn’t I just say you should drop the act?” Sydney snapped. “You are so bad at pretending so just stop. It is pathetic!” Ashley’s chest heaved, her eyes narrowing at Sydney. “Do you want to know why Julian is divorced you?” “I don’t care,” Sydney looked away from Ashley and said to the maid, “Please take the luggage outside.” The maids continued their walk out of the living room with the luggage. “Even if you don’t want to know, I will tell you anyway,” Ashley said, standing before Sydney. “Julian divorced you because you are a cheap whore who feels like you are above everyone else! Come on, Sydney, if not for Julian you wouldn’t even have any penny to you name! “ Ashley said, laughing. “You are just a little piece of trash!” Sydney raised her hand in the air and slapped Ashley across her face. “Who do you think you are to talk to me in such a way?!” Ashley stepped back, rubbing her reddened cheek. She looked at Sydney in shock. “Did you just slap me?!“ “Say one more word about me and slap you again.” Ashley laughed. “You crazy bitch!” Ashley raised her hand to slap Sydney, but Sydney held her hands. Sydney flung Ashley’s hand away and said. “Get out of my face.” “How dare you talk to me like that?!” Ashley yelled at Sydney, razing her hand to slap her again. “Ashley! That’s enough!.” Julian ordered, walking into the living room. “What are you even doing here? Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?” “Julian, I just wanted to come and check up on you. But your ex wife started calling me names and accusing me of sleeping with you!” Julian turned to Sydney. “Did you really tell her that?!” “You talk like you aren’t interested in sleeping with her,” Sydney fired back at Julian. “Isn’t that why you divorced me? Isn’t it because you wanted Ashley?!” “And what about you?” Julian questioned back. “Weren’t you sleeping around with another man?” “What?” “Don't take me for a fool, Sydney!” Julian snapped. “I know you were cheating on me” “Why will you accuse me of such a thing?” Sydney asked. “Julian, you have never seen me with another man so why will—“ “Yes! I haven’t seen you with another man because you are damn good at sneaking around!”Heartbroken, Jade had packed most of her belongings and moved back to the countryside to stay with her parents. It wasn’t like she couldn't afford to lounge at a hotel in the city until the issue with Arthur died down, but staying in the city meant she was prone to run into Arthur occasionally and she didn't want that. Not after he had threatened to end their marriage. Also, she feared that if she remained in the house with him, she might one day be welcomed with a divorce letter lying on their dining table as her breakfast. She didn't want that to happen so like a coward, she left and went back to the only place she could think of going to. Her mother had been so surprised to see Jade return so soon, but she didn’t ask any questions even when Jade collapsed in tears in her arms. She had just stood there, comforting her in silence. It took two days before Jade opened up about her near divorce with Arthur. She expected her mother to give her a disappointed look. In fact, she had thou
51: I Am Done. The car was parked at the hospital parking lot. Jade got out of the car and bent to carry her little daughter in her arms before walking into the hospital. Julian uttered a sign of relief when he saw her. “Were you able to get the money?”Jade nodded and gave her daughter to him. “Watch over her, I will make the payment now.”Julian took Iris from Jade with a frown. “Why did you bring her?”Looking at her daughter, she sighed. “It is a long story.”Julian saw the annoyance in Jade’s eyes and came close to her. “Did something happen when you left?”Jade refused to look at him. “I need to go and make the payment.”She left the waiting room and went to the desk to make her payment. Now that the payment had been made, the operation on her mother began shortly after. Hours went by while waiting for the operation to be done. On her mother’s lap, Iris’s head kept lolling to the side.“You need to take her back home. This place isn’t conducive for her,” Jade’s father complaine
A footstep echoed on the stairs before a voice was heard.“What is going on here?”Jade looked up and saw Sydney standing at the top of the porch, looking down at her.Jade walked away from Stella and went to meet Sydney.“Can we go somewhere more private?” She asked. “I am here to talk to you about something."Her mother was about to object when Sydney said, “Okay, follow me.” She walked towards a terrace by a foundation and looked back at Jade. “Why are you here?”Jade was about to tell Sydney what had happened to her mother and how she needed fifteen million dollars for her treatment, but no matter how much she tried, the words stayed stuck in her mouth. She tightened her hands around her bag. “I need the money you owe my brother.”Sydney furrowed her brow. “What money?”She didn’t understand why Jade thought she owed Julian any money. Was she referring to the money he had given her while they were married?A side of Sydney’s lips curved into a bitter smile. If Julian made his sis
Not in the mood to tolerate Quinn’s presence, Jade had left the restaurant very early. When she got back home, Arthur was already back. He sat with their daughter, watching an animated movie with her. The moment she walked into the living room, he noticed her presence and looked away from the television. He frowned when he saw him and said, “You came back so early. I thought you said you would spend a long time with your friends.” Hearing her husband call Quinn and Hailey her friends made her scoff. At the moment, they felt more like her headaches than her friends. “I already told you that it depends on my mood.” “Dad! Dad! Look, they are going for the bad wolf!” Iris called out to Arthur, her eyes completely fixed on the television. Arthur looked away from his wife and focused back on the movie they were watching. As Jade started walking up the stairs, he turned and looked at her. “Do you want to join us? The movie is interesting and we have a lot of popcorn.” Jade shook
Because she stopped at Arthur’s office before leaving for the hangout with her friends, she arrived at the restaurant late and met Hailey and Quinn already seated at their reserved table. Jade forced a smile on her face as she joined them at the table. “Hi, girlies!”Hailey smiled when she saw Jade. She placed her hand on the edge of the table and leaned forward, studying Jade. “What happened? You came late.” She nodded at Quinn who sat across her, and looked back at Jade. “Even Quinn, the latecomer among us, got here before you.”“I got busy with something, but never mind, I am here now.”Hailey wiggled her brow at Jade when she heard what she said and smirked. “You got busy with something?” She arched her brow and added with a mischievous smile. “Something like what?”Jade understood what Hailey was hinting at so she played along and smiled. “It is whatever you are thinking it is.”Hailey covered her mouth and shook her head. “You all are enjoying your marriage. It makes me miss my
After Jade ended the call, her mother dropped the phone from her ear and sighed. It seemed her daughter was too deep in her fear that she was failing to see the clearer picture. She wasn’t implying that her son-in-law was innocent or guilty of cheating on Jade. She just didn't want Jade to make a big mistake like Julian that she might later regret. She was certain that the divorce that had happened between Julian and Sydney wouldn't have happened if Julian had communicated better with his ex-wife; that was the reason she wanted Jade to talk things out with her husband before reaching any major conclusion. Her husband stepped out of the kitchen and saw his wife standing in the hallway of the restaurant, staring at the phone in her hand with a solemn face.He walked up and asked, looking at the phone with curiosity. “Why do you look so serious? What is wrong?”She sighed and kept her phone in the blue apron around her waist. “It is Jade. She is having some issues with her marriage."“W
