*********************(Rowe’s POV)*************************

The knock on my door came just after ten.

Three hard taps.

Then silence.

I frowned. No one ever used the side door—not unless they didn’t want to be seen. I moved slowly, my hand drifting toward the drawer where I kept a silver dagger etched with a sigil from my old pack days. Habit. Paranoia. Maybe both.

Another knock. Softer this time. Almost… unsure.

I cracked the door open, eyes narrowing.

Etian.

His face was tight, flushed from running.

“We’ve got a problem,” he said without greeting. “Big one.”

I stepped aside and let him in.

“Let me guess,” I muttered, locking the door behind him. “Liam’s finally stopped playing chess and decided to swing an axe instead?”

“Close,” Etian said. “Claire got a warning tonight. Anonymous number. Said Liam’s cleaning house.”

I raised an eyebrow. “And?”

He looked at me, dark and serious. “They said you’re next.”

For a second, I just stood there.

Not shocked.

Not even afraid.

Just tired.

*********************Etian’s POV****************************I felt something was off while I was at home, on my laptop going through the evidence and the records we have. Aliana came to my mind. I took my car keys and rushed out of my apartment.Liam's motive is beyond what I imagune______I knew something was off the second I stepped into the precinct. The place felt… still. Not in the usual early-morning, coffee-brewing kind of way—but in a tense, breath-held kind of way. Whispers cut off when I walked by. Officers avoided my eyes. A couple of detectives I’d known for years barely nodded in my direction. That’s when I knew.Something had shifted. And it had my name written all over it.I didn’t say anything until I reached the visiting hall. The blinds were partially drawn, and the door was slightly ajar. I pushed it open slowly, scanning for any signs that someone had been here overnight.Nothing out of place.Until I turned to the officer in charge. He didn't say anything, h

*****************************Claire’s POV*******************The morning light streamed through the windows of Mack's townhouse, soft and golden—but nothing about this place felt warm. Not anymore.I stood at the kitchen island, clutching a mug of coffee with trembling hands. The taste was bitter, untouched, and my stomach churned too much to drink. The scent reminded me of sleepless nights back in college, only this time, it wasn’t finals I was preparing for—it was war.Behind me, Mack’s footsteps padded across the floor. He paused for a moment, probably just watching me, reading my silence like he always did.“He’s going to fight back,” I said quietly.Mack stepped closer. “Liam?”I nodded.“He knows we’re circling him. He knows we don’t believe the Aliana story. I saw it in his eyes last night. He’s not scared—weirdly calm. Too calm.”“He’s always calm when he’s backed into a corner.” Mack’s voice held something darker than usual. “He calculates.”I turned to face him.Mack’s shirt

************************Mack’s POV*************************The jet cut through the night sky like a blade. I’d made the call less than an hour ago, and now I was buckled into the private jet, heart pounding harder than the engines roaring beneath me.Claire’s phone had gone straight to voicemail. The first time, I convinced myself it was poor reception. The second, I felt a chill crawl up my spine. The third—pure dread.I’d already torn through her text history, reread her last messages, tried to pinpoint any clue she might’ve left behind. But Claire hadn’t said much. She’d been careful. Too careful. It wasn’t like her.She was at Liam’s.I knew it in my gut.And that terrified me more than anything else.Liam wasn’t just reckless anymore—he was dangerous. Desperate. And if he was cornered, he’d do anything to preserve the illusion he’d built. Including hurting the one woman I—I clenched my jaw, trying to shake the thought. No. Not Claire. Please, not Claire.By the time we landed,

*************************Mack’s POV***********************I was halfway through a meeting in Chicago, the kind that made your brain throb with numbers and timelines when my phone vibrated against the conference table. I ignored it the first time, brushing it off as another client email. But then it buzzed again. And again.Three calls. Same numbers. It was Liz.That's odd. She hardly calls me unless it's urgent.I excused myself without a word, stepping out into the hallway lined with glass walls and polished silence. The moment I answered, her voice rushed through the speaker like wind through a broken window."Mack." She said. Her voice was low and urgent. My heart dropped."What about Claire?" I asked. My heart was pounding against my chest.“She’s gone to Liam’s place,” she added.“What?” My breath stalled.“Claire___She said she had to look him in the eye. Said she couldn’t rest until she saw the truth for herself.” Liz rasped. Her voice was slightly shaky. My throat went dry.

****************************(Claire’s POV)*******************The ride to Liam’s penthouse was silent, rushed. My heart was pounding against my chest as my grip on the wheel tightened. No music. No reassuring texts from Mack.Just me, my rapidly beating heart, and the hum of tyres on the road.It was reckless. I knew that. Stupid even. But something inside me couldn’t let go—not of the guilt, not of the need to look Liam in the eye and demand the truth. And if he wanted me dead? So be it. I was tired of the game. The guards at the gate recognized me instantly. One of them pressed a button without even asking questions. I wondered if that was arrogance or just confidence that I’d never be walking back out.As I stepped out of the car, I pulled my coat tighter. The mansion loomed ahead, cold and imposing against the cloudy night sky.It felt like a tomb. But I didn’t stop walking.I knew where he’d be—his private lounge. The room with the fireplace he never used and the vintage whiskey

*********************(Claire’s POV)***********************I didn’t know how long I sat staring at the photograph Etian left behind. It haunted me.The frame. The angle. Roselyn’s smile caught mid-step, completely unaware that she was being hunted. That someone watched her and decided she was leverage.Liam’s games were escalating. He wasn’t just trying to silence us. He was trying to break us.I pressed my fingers against my temple and forced myself to breathe, slow and even. The city was bustling beneath me___cars honking, pedestrians walking to work. School buses were picking kids up for school, but underneath a tension simmered.Whispers spread like a wild about the Sadie's case being reopened. About Aliana. About me.I picked up the evidence file again. We’d gone through it a dozen times, and yet something felt… wrong. Like we were missing a piece, something obvious but carefully hidden. Every clue we had still pointed to Aliana. Neatly arranged. Too neatly.“Claire.”I glanced u

***********************Etian’s POV**************************The knock on my door came just after midnight. Not urgent. Not aggressive. But firm enough to wake me from the edge of sleep.I rolled out of the bed, my heart already picking up speed. Something about it felt off. My sixth sense—sharpened after years in the military, training, and under-the-table investigations— I couldn't sleep when something was off. And right now, my sense was screaming.I reached for the drawer beside my bed. My Glock wasn’t a last resort anymore—it had become routine. Too many enemies had slithered out from the cracks lately, and I couldn’t afford to be careless. Not with Claire. Not with everything we were trying to expose.I eased toward the front door and peered through the peephole.I saw no one.I groaned in anger. Frowning, I opened the door cautiously and glanced around the hallway. It was Empty. But i spotted something on the floor.A brown envelope. My stomach twisted in tight knots. My body

*************************Liam's POV*********************The concrete walls of the underground garage echoed with my footsteps—fast, hard, sharp like gunfire. I didn't even wait for the elevator. I took the stairs three at a time, seething, every muscle in my body clenched. The fury was crawling beneath my skin, just itching for a release.I should’ve snapped her neck when I had the chance. The moment her eyes widened, those damn tears spilling like she thought I wouldn’t notice—like I’d feel pity—I’d known. Aliana was going to be a problem. Not just for me, but for everything I’d built. But then he stepped in. That idiot. That excuse of a guard who thought he could play hero.I shoved open the door to the security floor and stormed in.“Where is he?” I barked. The two men stationed near the monitors froze. One of them, a scrawny kid named Trevor, pointed hesitantly to the room down the hall.“Jax is in holding prep. You said to—”I didn’t wait. The door slammed against the wall as I
