After Kaylar exited Wayne's office she headed towards the direction of the pantry distractedly.

It was hard to discern Kaylar's emotions because her expression remained neutral and indifferent.

She wasn't as calm and composed as she was on the outside. She felt as if her life had ended, she felt like all her hopes of ever achieving all her dreams were crushed. She couldn't possibly get married.

With all these thoughts flooding her mind, Kaylar prepared the coffee absentmindedly, at that point she was trying to process what had happened.

If she could go back in time she wouldn't have signed the contract, alas, there was nothing she could do.

She shook her head in despair as she took the coffee to Wayne's office.

After delivering the coffee, she headed straight to her office to prepare for the day ahead.

Unlike Wayne's office, Kaylar's office was smaller. There was a mahogany table placed at the center of the room which had a swivel chair and two guest seats placed in front.

A white bookshelf was placed behind her desk. It gave the room a formal ambience.

A few pictures were hung carefully on the walls and flower pots were placed at different corners of the room, which brightened the atmosphere.

The office was illuminated by the light that poured from the floor-to-ceiling window.

She surely enjoyed some perks as the CEO's secretary.

Kaylar slumped helplessly on her swivel chair as she glanced towards the floor-to-ceiling window. After a while she turned to her table and released a sigh, her table was stacked with files.

That's what she got for taking time off, with that Kaylar started her work cancelling out any unnecessary thoughts.

Time went by quickly and it was lunch break.

Kaylar cleared her table before leaving the office; she was heading out to meet a friend.

Outside the company, Kaylar got into her car and floored the pedal before leaving the company grounds.

Five minutes later,

Kaylar arrived at Ceramika, it was a restaurant she discovered a few weeks ago when she had to work overtime as usual.

She got out of the car and walked into the restaurant.

Inside the restaurant.

"Good day miss, do you have a reservation?" A young man came forward as soon as Kaylar stepped inside the restaurant.

"Yes, I have a reservation under the name Kaylar Harper " Kaylar gave her name as her eyes scanned around the lobby.

"Give me a minute" The young man quickly checked his computer for her reservation.

"Miss Kaylar, I'll lead the way" The young man finally raised his head.

Kaylar followed behind the man as he led her to a private room.

"We are here, miss," The young man gestured towards the door as he spoke.

"Thank you." Kaylar flashed a warm smile at him before entering the room.

The young man stood outside with red ears as a blush slowly crept on his face.

'How beautiful could a person be?' He muttered softly.

He was flabbergasted by Kaylar's look especially when she flashed a smile at him.

She looked like an angel who had fallen from the sky. The young man quickly shook his head to get rid of his thoughts before proceeding to serve the other customer.

Inside the private room.

"Hey babes, I waited for so long. For a minute I thought you ditched me!" An excited voice rang out the moment Kaylar stepped into the room.

"Mia, you think I would do that?" Kaylar pulled a seat for herself.

"No, I was just Kidding." Mia stood up and pounced on Kaylar without any reservation.

"Oh Kaylar, I missed you so much, how have you been?" Mia asked as she tightened her hug.

After Kaylar's parents got divorced, she was left heartbroken because her seemingly perfect family was broken. She had no one to turn to and that's when Mia came in and from there, their friendship blossomed.

"Mia, you haven't changed a bit if you keep this up I swear I will die of suffocation." Kaylar struggled in Mia's embrace.

Deep down, she felt happy, she hadn't seen her friend in a long time.

"So tell me how have you been?" Kaylar asked.

Mia worked as a doctor in one of the country's most renowned hospital.

Aside from the good pay and yearly bonuses working at Cedarcrest Hospital was a challenging job, it required top-notch practitioners and highly trained personnel to work at the hospital.

And as Mia was one of the leading doctors in the country she had little time to spare, travelling for one training or the other.

"The usual, it's been so exhausting." Mia replied as she casually picked up the menu to order a few dishes she liked, she then passed the menu to Kaylar to choose any dish of her choice.

After placing their order Mia looked at Kaylar with a gossipy expression. "So how have You been?" Mia intentionally stressed the 'you'.

"Let's talk over the meal" Kaylar evasively replied.

Mia sensed something off but she decided to ask over the meal.

After a while, the dishes were served and they started eating.

"Kaylar, come on, tell me something!" Unrelenting Mia cried out.

Kaylar twirled her fork around the food as she thought about everything that happened over the past few days.

Kaylar gave Mia a blank expression.

"Who bullied you?" Mia asked with a stern face.

Kaylar shook her head.

"Who touched you?"

Mia asked as if she was ready for a fight. She quickly thought of the possible grievance Kaylar suffered in her absence.

Hearing no response from Kaylar, Mia connected it to Kaylar's boss. He always bullies Kaylar so she didn't expect much from him.

"Don't tell me it's that thick-skulled boss of yours!" Mia let out an exasperated sigh before bickering

Kaylar finally nodded her head.

"What did he do this time?" Mia asked after barely calming herself. She knew it, it was no other than Kaylar's boss, he always bullied Kaylar. Mia swore to herself that if she got to meet him one day she would give him a piece of her mind.

Kaylar looked at Mia before narrating her ordeal.

  • The CEO's secretary    In the midst of chaos

Wayne left Jason's room, his mind in turmoil. The weight of his mother’s venomous words lingered, but he forced himself to focus on the present. As he stepped into the hallway, he called out to the police officers. “Get Meghan out of there,” he ordered, his voice cold and detached. Without waiting for a response, he made his way back to Kaylar’s room. Inside the ward, it was quiet, almost eerily so. Kaylar lay peacefully in her bed, her breathing steady, though her face still showed signs of the ordeal she had endured. Wayne’s mother-in-law was seated beside her, but Wayne could see the exhaustion in her eyes. “You should go home and rest,” Wayne told her gently. She looked at him with a mix of concern and understanding before nodding. “Call me if anything changes,” she said softly before gathering her things and leaving the room. Now it was just Wayne, Kaylar, and Chad, who had just entered the room. Wayne could feel the chaos in his mind, the events of the day overwhelming hi

  • The CEO's secretary    Killed you alongside your father

The hours dragged on in the quiet, sterile corridors of the hospital. Wayne paced back and forth, his mind heavy with worry for Kaylar. When the doors of the emergency room finally swung open, and she was rolled out, Wayne’s heart lurched in his chest. He immediately stood up, his body tensed with anxiety. Kaylar was pale, her eyes closed, and tubes were attached to her, but she was alive. That was all that mattered. Wayne followed the gurney as it was rolled into her ward. He stayed by her side, holding her hand, his eyes never leaving her face. She looked so fragile lying there, a stark contrast to the fierce, determined woman he knew and loved. But as much as he wanted to stay, Chad’s voice interrupted his thoughts. “Wayne,” Chad said softly as he entered the room, his face grim. “Jason’s just been rolled out of the emergency room.”Wayne felt a wave of conflicted emotions wash over him. He glanced back at Kaylar, her mother now sitting beside her, watching over her with the same

  • The CEO's secretary    Stay with me

Before she could protest, Wayne dashed out of the building, his footsteps echoing through the empty corridors as he chased after Jason. The night was cool, the air thick with tension as Wayne sprinted into the darkness, his heart pounding with a mixture of adrenaline and fear. He knew this was the endgame—Jason had to be stopped, no matter the cost.Jason, injured and desperate, limped ahead, the pain in his leg slowing him down. He glanced back, seeing Wayne closing in, and gritted his teeth. He had always prided himself on staying one step ahead, but now he was cornered, his escape routes dwindling. As he stumbled into a nearby alleyway, he knew he had to make a final stand.Wayne burst into the alley just as Jason turned to face him, a gun clutched in his hand. There was no hesitation in Jason’s eyes now—only a cold resolve. Wayne barely had time to react as Jason fired. The bullet grazed Wayne’s shoulder, but he didn’t falter. He fired back, the shot hitting Jason squarely in the

  • The CEO's secretary    Not by a long shot

Kaylar was dragged through the crumbling hallways of the abandoned building, her heels clicking against the dusty concrete. The men holding her were rough, their grip like iron clamps on her arms. She forced herself to stay calm, knowing that the internal tracking device embedded in her skin was still operational. Wayne would come. He had to.Jason’s men shoved her into a large, dimly lit room at the heart of the building. The walls were lined with rusted pipes and broken windows, allowing beams of moonlight to pierce through the darkness. The place reeked of decay, a fitting backdrop for whatever twisted plan Jason had in mind.Jason followed them in, his footsteps echoing ominously as he approached her. His eyes glinted with malicious intent as he looked down at her, bound and vulnerable. “You’re surprisingly calm, Kaylar,” he said, a smirk playing on his lips. “I suppose you’re still holding on to hope that your precious Wayne will come to your rescue.”Kaylar met his gaze, refusi

  • The CEO's secretary    Understand the game

Kaylar stood at the edge of the deserted parking lot, her breath visible in the cool evening air. The location Jason had chosen was far from the city—a quiet, industrial area that seemed abandoned. The sun had dipped below the horizon, leaving only the faint glow of streetlights to cut through the gathering darkness. She checked her watch: 6:10 PM. Her nerves were frayed, but she kept her expression calm, glancing around for any sign of movement. Chad and Wayne were positioned nearby, monitoring her every move through the tracking device and earpiece she had concealed. She whispered into the earpiece, "Everything looks quiet... too quiet."Wayne’s voice crackled in her ear, “Stay alert. If anything seems off, we’re pulling you out.”Kaylar nodded slightly, trying to steady her racing heart. The air was thick with anticipation as she waited, every minute feeling like an eternity. Suddenly, the distant rumble of an engine reached her ears, and she turned to see a car approaching from t

  • The CEO's secretary    Smart enough not to play tricks

The city was bathed in the golden hues of the late afternoon sun, its bustling streets unaware of the turmoil brewing behind the scenes. In a sleek, high-rise office, Jason sat behind his desk, his demeanour as cold and calculating as ever. His mind was focused, not on immediate confrontation, but on a strategy that would create chaos without direct conflict. Jason’s office was immaculate, a testament to his obsessive need for control. The room was filled with the soft hum of air conditioning and the occasional click of his keyboard as he worked on his laptop. A sinister smile played at the corners of his mouth as he prepared for the next phase of his plan. He was interrupted by a knock at the door. One of his trusted operatives entered, carrying a stack of documents. Jason looked up, his eyes narrowing with interest. “Everything is set, sir,” the operative said, placing the documents on the desk. Jason’s gaze flickered over the papers, his smile widening. “Excellent. Let’s proceed
