Theo's stay in New York lasted until Wednesday, which would have made it much harder for Josephine to feel better. She took advantage of his absence and scheduled an examination with her longtime friend and the doctor she went to and prescribed some reliable form of contraception. As she sat at the examination table in the hospital nightgown, Josephine wrapped her arms around herself to warm herself in the cool room. Due to her concern for her sister and the fear that her fake marriage would be broken, she often could not sleep at night, her appetite was getting worse and she was getting tired faster than before. Before entering the office, Dr. Luna knocked softly on the door. She was a middle-aged woman who had taken care of Josephine's health since her teenage days. She was the one who prescribed her every antibiotic she took in her life, and she held her hand after her mother's death.
