Chapter Eighty-Five: California

Mayeli woke up to a gentle peck on her forehead. She opened her eyes to see Killian leaning over her, his eyes filled with care.

“You're burning up”, Killian mumbled, pulling a loose strand of hair from her face.

Mayeli was feeling very weak, though she didn't understand why. She had been fine earlier.

“Where are we?” She asked, blinking. It was dark already.

“We are in a hotel in California”. Killian’s British accent was much more pronounced than Mayeli's since he spent most of his life in England.

“I have always wanted to be in California”, Mayeli said with a weak chuckle.

“I know”, Killian mumbled, placing a kiss on her forehead.

“I kinda feel a bit weak”.

“Shh, let me take care of you, my love”, Killian mumbled.

Mayeli tried to ignore the throbbing she was feeling in her head. “Can I get my laptop?” She asked, knowing she would be denied her request.

“No more work, you need to rest”, Killian said firmly, spreading the sheet over her.
