Bella

I paced the length of the hallway for what felt like the hundredth time, nerves buzzing beneath my skin like static. Every creak in the old house made me stiffen. Every sound from outside made me hold my breath.

Mabel sat on the couch with her legs tucked beneath her, refreshing the live drone feed on her tablet. Matteo stood near the window, silent and still, watching the street like it might explode at any moment.

No one spoke much after they left. Because no one wanted to say what we were all thinking… what if it went wrong?

I didn’t realize how tightly I was gripping my phone until Aristide’s name finally popped up in a text.

Aristide: We’re on our way back.

Four words… But I could finally breathe again.

A short time later, headlights splashed across the wall, and I heard the front door unlock. I was down the hall before it even swung open.

Aristide stepped in first, jaw tight, eyes scanning the room before landing on me. He looked exhausted and tense, but intact. That was a

AristideBella touched my arm as the others filtered out, her voice low but sure. “I want to talk to Marco. Alone.” I searched her face… clear-eyed, calm, but there was a tension beneath it. She didn’t need permission. She never had. But I appreciated that she told me first.I gave a short nod. “Okay. I’ll pull him.”Minutes later, we were in one of the smaller drawing rooms off the eastern corridor. One we used for side negotiations or quiet strategy. I stayed only long enough to make sure the door shut firmly behind her and Marco, then stood post just outside, giving them privacy but staying close.I didn’t need to hear their conversation to know it wasn’t easy. Bella had always looked up to her brother; she respected him in a way she hadn’t with many men. But learning what their parents had done. She has especially hurt by her father, and this new information and how Marco had carried that secret wasn’t something she’d just let slide.Still… she was in control. Not cold. Not detach

  • The Chosen Bride   Chapter 56

BellaThe war room thrummed with controlled urgency; quiet voices, fingers tapping across tablets, the low hiss of encrypted signals feeding data in real-time. The walls were lined with tactical maps, real-time feeds of supply routes, and a live satellite view of the strike zone. But what held my attention wasn’t the intel. It was the man standing across the room.Aristide.He was speaking low to Elena, his posture relaxed but alert. There was something in the way he held himself after a mission… grounded, but coiled beneath the surface. Most people saw steel when they looked at him. I saw the man who came back to me every time.He turned his head slightly, catching my eye. Just the smallest glance, but it said everything. I’m here. I’m yours. I’m ready.I nodded once and stepped forward. “Status.”“The signal was transmitting during the entire convoy run, likely recording movement and coordinates. Once the vehicle was hit, the relay shut down. Clean break. Whoever placed it wanted ey

AristideSunlight slipped through the tall windows, golden and quiet, soft as a whispered promise. It painted lines across the white sheets tangled around us, and warmed the hardwood floors beneath our feet. But none of it dared to wake her.My Izzy lay curled against me, her body nestled into mine like we were two puzzle pieces shaped for each other. One of her legs was tangled with mine, her cheek resting against my chest, her hair a dark spill across my skin. Her hand rested lightly over my heart, as if it were instinct. Like, even in sleep, she knew exactly where I was.I didn’t move... I didn’t want to.My arm was wrapped around her waist, my other hand laced through hers, fingers resting just above the barely-there swell of her stomach. Our child.I’d faced death. Killed men. Led soldiers and sat across from traitors. But nothing… not even the strike we’d pulled off last night, had hit me the way it did to hold my wife and the life we’d made. She breathed slowly, evenly. Safe. L

  • The Chosen Bride   Chapter 54

BellaThe glow from the monitors painted everything in cold blue light. I stood behind the main desk, arms crossed, watching the tactical feed pulse across the screens. Elena sat at the main terminal, fingers flying as she switched between drone visuals, biometric sensors, and the data relay from the field.Enzo’s locator was steady. Aristide’s, too… Good.Still, I couldn’t shake the ache in my chest. Not fear, at least not the kind I’d been raised with. It was deeper than that. The kind of pressure that lived between breath and bone. The kind you only felt when the person you loved most was out in the dark with a loaded weapon and no guarantees.I could still hear his voice in my head from just minutes ago, soft on the private channel. ‘I love you.’ I hadn’t known how much I needed to hear it until he said it.The war room was quiet now, except for the hum of equipment and the occasional click of Elena’s keyboard. Everyone else had cleared out, per my orders. If something went wrong,

AristideThe room looked different this time.Same faces. Same table. But the energy had changed. No longer cautious or skeptical, no longer waiting to see if Bella would break under the weight of their expectations. Now, they were listening.Really listening.I moved to stand beside her again, my place as constant as her heartbeat. She didn’t look at me, not yet. Her focus was forward, sharp as a blade, but I could feel her… every breath, every calculation humming beneath her skin. She wasn’t just holding the room. She was commanding it.God, she was beautiful like this. Not just the kind of beauty that turned heads. But the kind that bent wills. That made grown men trained in power and silence lean forward without realizing they were doing it. That made me, her husband, her equal, feel proud in a way that dug deep into my chest and stayed there like a vow.“I asked you here because we needed a path forward,” Bella said, voice steady. “And now we have one.”She nodded toward Elena an

BellaI never thought silence could be so loud. The kind that settles in your bones and waits to see if you’ll flinch.Twelve family representatives sat around the long oak table, their expressions masked by years of training, power, and blood. Each came from a different corner of our fractured underworld: New York, Boston, Chicago, even Montreal. Men and women whose names made governments shift and whose shadows stretched farther than most empires dared to imagine.I stood at the head of the table, not because I’d claimed the spot, but because they’d left it open. Waiting for someone to fill it.Aristide stood to my left, silent but solid, his presence grounding me more than anyone would ever understand. Elena monitored from a nearby station in the corner. Matteo sat across from me, flanked by Enzo and Marco. Mabel wasn’t inside the room; she wouldn’t sit in on war, but I knew she’d made sure everyone had eaten, and that I’d had my tea, my prenatal, and that I wasn’t wearing shoes th
