Keira's pov

No, no, no.

This couldn't possibly be happening, there had to be a mistake somewhere.

Yet no matter how many times I blinked, the note in my hand still glared at me.

" Dearest Keira, I have always sought to make our parents proud and I must admit their expectations of me are a weight I could no longer carry. I cannot marry the Lycan king, especially when I am in love with another. He is crippled for goodness sake!!! That is a flaw even you have to admit you cannot live with forever. By the time you read this note I should be happily married and mated to the love of my life.I am sorry for being a disappointment and putting you on the spot but I have to do this for me. " Maya signed at the bottom of the note and I stood by my dresser, speechless.

Maya had run off to get married and in a few hours she was expected to marry the Lycan king.

My family was ruined.

"Keira, have you seen Maya? She should know better than to stay out late when we have so much to do today." My mother barged into my room looking stressed.

"Mum...Maya-" I stuttered, trying to form the right words but failing miserably.

"What is it?" She looked at me in confusion.

I slowly stretch out the note to her, my fingers shaking.

She looked from me to the note before reaching out and snatching it out of my grasp.

My mother's face became pale and her eyes widened as she read the contents of the note.

She let out a loud scream which echoed through the entire house and before long my father came bounding into my room.

"What is it?" My father frowned, scanning my room for any potential threat.

"We are ruined Edgar. The Lycan king is going to banish us." My mother wailed as she handed the note to my father.

My father's hands visibly shook as he scanned the contents of the note and his eyes became blank.

"How could Maya do this to us?" My father whispered as he rubbed a hand over his face.

"He'll have us exiled for making a fool out of him Edgar." My mother lamented before she sniffled and turned to me with a blazing anger in her eyes.

"What did you say to Maya?" She asked me and I stumbled back, confused.

"I didn't tell her anything. I had no idea she planned on running away." I rushed to defend myself.

"Maya would never do this, she would never bring shame and disgrace to us." My mother argued and I remained silent.

It was pointless arguing with her when the evidence was right there in her hands.

She just couldn't grasp the idea that her sweet golden child had let her down.

"What will we do? It is barely an hour until we are expected to present her at the chapel." My mother asked as she gazed up at my father.

"If we leave now we might be able to cross the borders and escape before anyone realizes anything is amiss." My father said, his features pinched in a frown.

"If he finds out we'll be as good as dead. He'll have us killed." My mother seemed to be in a panic as her chest rose and fell heavily.

"I will marry him in her place." I announced and my parents turned towards me.

"That's the only way. He only knows he is to marry one of your daughters, he has no idea which one so I'll marry him." I explained and my father seemed to mule over my words.

"Placing you on that altar in place of your sister would be as good as inviting death upon us. What do you think the Lycan king will do when he realizes he has married and mated an omega without a wolf?" My mother asked and I reeled back from her venomous words.

"He doesn't have to know and by the time he finds out he would have already mated her." My father reasoned.

"You can't seriously be considering this Edgar." My mother looked at my father in disbelief.

"It is truly the only way to save our family from exile. We don't have a choice." My father said, his voice ringing with finality.

"Do you Keira Vale take Callum Wolfe as your mate and Alpha. Do you accept to be his Luna and lead this pack alongside him?" The eldest member of the council, who was officiating the ceremony asked.

"I do." I replied as my heart beat loudly in my chest.

I could feel his eyes on me.

The Lycan King's stare bore into me from his place on the wheelchair but I didn't dare look at him.

"With the power vested in me by the moon goddess, I now pronounce you King and Queen." The elder announced and my eyes finally darted down and met the blackest orbs I had ever seen.

My breath hitched at the intensity of his stare and I marvelled at how handsome yet domineering this man was, even from his place on the wheelchair.

I bent low, the faint scent of sandalwood invading my senses as I lightly brushed my lips against his.

His lips remained unmoving against mine but as I raised my head, I could feel a tingle on my lips.

His face was blank and without another word he pressed a button which made his chair turn and he wheeled out of the chapel without a word.

I followed awkwardly behind him, ignoring the confused stares of the pack members.

I settled in the car, inching as far away from my husband as possible as I looked out the window.

My husband...my heart skipped a beat at the word and my thoughts travelled to Asher.

My heart clenched as I thought of him.

What would Asher think when he learned I was now married to the feared Lycan king.

Meanwhile, back in Moonclaw, the town square was buzzing with activity, and the streets were filled with the noise of hammers as they slowly rebuilt the town. Ryk stood near a half-built restaurant, holding a hammer and a chalkboard while giving orders and directions to a group of workers, for the first time in a long time he wasn’t carrying any weapons with him, moonclaw had entered an era of peace. He coughed as he dusted his dark hair, which was covered with dust, he still felt some pain around his body, he had gotten a few burn scars while entering into that fire he had driven through to save Callum and Keira. Catherine was nearby, attending to a worker’s injury, she used to be a healer, until they got married and she had agreed to be the one to sacrifice her profession and stay home for the sake of their child Abigail. Abigail was in charge of ordering and keeping the children in check and making sure they stayed safe, she had taken the younger ones to a building that was s

The evening sun was golden and warm over Moonclaw, its golden light spraying across the green hills in the distance, making it look like a painting, with the grasses making it look even more surreal. Two weeks had passed since the disaster, and everything was slowly changing. The town was undergoing a new team for renewal. The streets had been swept clean of all the ash, and the homes were being repaired from the ruins of the fire that had nearly consumed them. Scaffolds filled the town square, not for execution this time but for rebuilding. A bunch of men had taken the task of carpenters and were hammering away, a few had taken the task of bricklayers and were laying stone and cement. Everyone was working together to rebuild the town. Even the children contributed. The children were laughing and playing as they carried water to the workers. The ruins from Lord Conoron’s rampage were still visible, but the Moonclaw people were ready to wash everything away and start over afresh, thi

It felt perfect. It wasn’t too hot or too cold, it was perfect. Was this what heaven felt like?It had a strange calmness that pulled her from the darkness of unconsciousness. Her eyelids slowly opened, they felt as heavy as stone, her body was aching with a deep, burning soreness that increased with every breath she took. The smell of antibiotics and herbs filled her nose. There was a third smell: it smelt like smoke.Fire.She remembered the fire, the one she and Callum had been stuck in.So they were dead.At least they died holding each other together. She smiled weakly as the smell of smoke clung to her memory. She opened her eyes slowly, expecting the blinding light of some afterlife, or a heaven where she and Callum might be reunited. But instead, she saw a low wooden ceiling. Its pillars looked cracked but sturdy, and she could also feel the softness of a mattress under her.She expected heaven to have clouds not mattresses that smelt of drugs.A fire burned nearby, it was

The townsquare looked like a battlefield. The ground was covered with blood and ash.No one spoke or tried to break the silence. The square had been divided into three factions. One side had the people of Moonclaw who had been dragged to the square by Moonclaw soldiers. The other side had lord Conoron, Isabel, and Konan, a great deal of the rogue soldiers they had, had left them and switched allegiance to Asher. The last side was Asher’s side. Each side stayed quiet. No one said a word. The scaffold was at the center, of the square, Callum stood there silently, his hands tied as he faced execution, lord Conoron had ordered barrels of oil to be kept around the scaffold, he had planned first to hang Callum, the after he was dead, the barrels of oil would be lit. Callum’s body and the scaffold would be burnt. The surviving townsfolk, surrounded by rogue guards, watched in horror, their hopes had been crushed, most of them had begun to accept their new reality, their lives were over under

  • The Chosen Mate Of The Lycan King   Chapter 107

The town square of Moonclaw was filled to the brim.A scaffold stood at the center, an old wooden platform hastily built under Lord Conoron’s orders, its rope swaying in the evening breeze. Callum stood under it, his hands tied, his clothes torn, his dark eyes looking calm despite the rope tied around his neck. The surviving townsfolk were all gathered by rogue guards. They stood in a semicircle, their faces pale, and their hopes crushed. Lord Conoron stood at the scaffold’s edgeSmiling. His wilful eyes were fixed on Callum, as he enjoyed the moment he had long dreamed of, a Moonclaw king’s public execution, it had to be similar to the shame his own family had suffered years ago. Isabel stood beside him, she didn’t look the same since she had heard of Asher’s survival. Konan, stood behind them, whileEdgar, Beatrice, and Maya stood nearby, they were looking around the crowd nervously. The rogue executioner tightened the rope, and the rope got tighter against Callum’s neck. Alive? That was the thought on everyone’s mind. The hall was silent. No one had said a word, no one dared to. Even the guards held their breaths, waiting for Lord Conoron to say something.Lord Conoron was silent, his eyes on the guard that had delivered the news.He had an empty look on his face.He knew how hard it had been for him when he had first gotten to rogue island, it had taken a while for the former rogue king, Usher, to trust him and when Usher had finally trusted him, he had him poisoned, and then made him change his will, handing over rulership of rogue island to him, if he wanted the antidote, Usher had done as he said, but he never gave Usher the antidote, he had made Asher, usher’s son a pawn king. At the same time, he and Isabel ruled from the shadows, because he knew the rogues would only answer to a rogue leader and now that Asher was here, his presence posed a threat to the rogue army he had assembled.Callum stood between two rogue guards, their grips bruising hi
