All the students were scared of him because he was really skilled in beating students. Some teachers even call him to beat students whom they are supposed to sometimes.
"Good morning, sir." Alex murmured and bowed his head as he greeted him.
"What happened?" He asked abruptly."Sir?" Alex tried to feign ignorance like he did not know what he was asking about. "Why are you late to school?" He asked calmly." The thing is... I... I..." He stuttered as he scratched his hair trying to find the best way to reply him, but Mr Akeem cut in. " My friend, is it going to take you forever to answer my question?!" He asked, raising his voice. " I was not feeling okay, that was why I came late." Alex replied. "But you should have stayed at home. You know that one's health is very important." He said. " I came because I did not want to miss your test." Alex retorted. "That's very good of you. That would be all if you had missed it. Anyway, you can leave." He told him.Alex was very glad on hearing this. At least, he wasn't going to get punished for coming late. As he left to go to his class, he wondered why Mr Akeem was so wicked and nonchalant towards his well-being.
"Is this how he treats other students?" He wondered.
"At least, I did not get punished." He thought as he walked to his class. He responded to his classmate's greetings as he entered the class and finally sat down on his seat.
"What's up guy?" Brian; whose seat was beside his, asked him before he could comfortably sit down on his seat.
"What happened?" He retorted. "Why are you trying to act ignorant like I did not call you several times." He instantly remembered missing Brian's call earlier and said, "oh, I honestly did not know when you called.""So?" He asked Alex, expecting an apology from him. "So what?" Alex was now feeling irritated by his questions. "So, no apology from you?" He asked fuming. "Okay, I'm sorry. You should know that I did not and will not ever intend doing so." He apologised realising that he expected an apology from him. "So what happened? Moreover, you look gloomy today." He asked Alex as he sat on Alex desk. "I had the same dream again." He told him. "The same one?! Oh no!" He exclaimed and used his hand to cover his mouth on realising that his classmates were staring at him.Mr Akeem walked into the class before they could continue their discussion.
Brian could not see him enter because he was facing Alex, so he signalled to him that Mr Akeem had entered. Brian quickly went back to his seat on realising Mr Akeem's presence.
Brian's eyes and Mr Akeem's made a contact as Brian sat down on his chair. Mr Akeem looked at him for seconds and adjusted when the students greeted him.
"Good morning sir." The students echoed.
"Good morning. Tear a sheet of paper and get ready for your test." He said, looking furious. Some of the students murmured, as though, they were not aware of the test before, which resulted to his anger.
"Why all these murmurs?! Were you not all aware beforehand of the test in the last class?" He furiously asked, which made all of them silent.
All of them brought out their sheet of paper as he instructed to avoid having issues with him.
"Good." He said, on realising that they had all complied to his instruction.
Alex was calmly waiting for him to write the questions on the board while all these were going on, because he was dying of curiosity. He was determined to perform better than Charlotte this time in mathematics.
Mr Akeem then wrote the questions on the board.
Lo and behold! The two questions he wrote on the board were about angle of elevation and depression, and bearings. His joy knew no bounds as he saw the questions because he practised effortfully on them the previous night.
He quickly wrote the necessary information that was needed on the sheet of paper before attempting to answer the questions.
Brian kicked him on the leg to get his attention while Alex was still attempting the questions. Alex already knew that he was telling him to place his sheet of paper in a position he could vividly see what he had written.
Alex was not the type to let another person copy what he wrote, but, he did so because Brian was his friend and also very smart at it;he does not copy the entire work of another person for one to notice that he copied another person's work.
He placed his sheet of paper in a position that he could see it, without Mr Akeem noticing.
XxxxxxxxThe bell finally rang to announce the end of the school activities of the day. Alex was really happy and confident about the mathematics test he did. The feeling had subdued the pessimism he had when he left home for school, and also made him forget the dream he had overnight.
He took the book that was on his desk back to his backpack, immediately the teacher that was teaching them before the bell rang left.
"Didn't you inform your parents about this dream you've been having recently?" Brian asked Alex all of a sudden while they were walking out of the school compound.
"I let them know anytime I dream about it." He answered reluctantly. He regretted telling Brian, and wished that he could stop talking about the dream.
"Since you've been having this same dream for weeks, I think you should take it serious. Maybe there is a message it is trying to pass to you." Brian continued.
"Maybe." He murmured. "You know, maybe you should go see a pastor, they might interpret the weird dream for you."Alex was bemused by Brian's statement because he didn't expect him to utter such statement. Brian wasn't a religious person, so he wondered what prompted him to say such thing.
They were already out of the school compound and now, walking in one of the popular markets in Lagos.
"I'm just trying to make a suggestion which might help." Brian said, realising that Alex was getting frustrated by his suggestion. "Guy, let's dead the matter" Alex replied sharply. The hurly-burly and the noise emanating from the market was too much that a person that is some feet away from another will find it difficult to hear that person.
Alex and Brian crossed to the other side of the road which is the marketplace after carefully looking at both sides before doing so.
"I hate passing here on Mondays." Alex said, trying to break the silence between the two that had been going on since he shunned Brian.
"Why do you say so?" Brian replied. "It's because this place is always crowded with people since it is the only...."People screaming "hey!", "watch out", and whatnot diverted his attention before he could complete his statement. The screams prompted him and Brian to look towards the direction where the screams were directed at. Surprisingly, it was Charlotte - Alex and Brian's classmate that people were screaming at.
She wanted to cross to the other side of the road just like how Alex and Brian had done, but she didn't look carefully to see a bus painted in yellow and black popularly called 'Danfo', that was driving at full speed on her left-hand side.
She would have heard the people's scream calling for her attention and the bus' endless horn if she had not plugged an earphone to her ear.
While people were still trying to get her attention, Alex felt an urge to run towards her and probably save her, although he was reluctant to do so.
His heart was beating wildly, and he felt as though a devil had been let loose inside of him. At that point, the pace felt slow, and Alex was unable to control his urge. Before the bus could hit Charlotte, he sprinted out to where she was and forcefully shoved her, causing both of them to slide to the opposite side of the road.Alex felt relieved, shocked, and uneasy at the same time. They both felt uncomfortable because of how similar their situation was to two people of opposing genders bumping into one another. After a few awkward seconds of staring at one other, Alex got to his feet.People, including Brian, had crowded around them, before one of them could speak or before Charlotte could rise up. While Charlotte was being grilled by onlookers, Alex remained puzzledly standing. You nearly implicated someone due to your negligence.""Why use earphones while crossing a street?" People, particularly the market women, questioned her about such things."Do you realize that due of your
"You don't have to pretend to be unaware or dispute it. The video has been trending, across all social media platforms since yesterday. I suppose you are unaware, because you have not been online since the incident happened." His father said. He then realised that his father, and virtually everyone might have been aware of what had transpired."Did you also know about it, Mum?" He asked, turning to face his mother. His mother didn't look at him as she nodded in affirmation."How did you do that, by the way? Like, it's incredibly unexpected and enigmatic." His father said. "I don't know. I assume I was just meant to save her." He muttered , hoping that his father would end the conversation."Well, be careful next time. Your safety should be your priority before any other's." His mother warned.Okay ma," he replied. He could not bear it anymore and left the kitchen."Mum, I'm sorry to leave you with this cooking, I need to do something in my room." He told his mother, as he headed
They arrived at the school's grounds early, where they only met a few kids. They entered their classroom but saw only a few people. Charlotte was not there at that time. They greeted their mates present, and walked to their seats. "Do you think she will come today?" Brian whispered to Alex."Maybe so, maybe not," he replied bluntly, as they made their way to their seats. The children present were alerted by the school bell that for the commencement of the assembly had. Most of the students sprinted to the gathering area.Alex and Brian ran into Charlotte, while going down the stairs. She nearly collided with Alex as she was hurrying to their class in order to make it to the assembly ground on time. She took a step back to avoid a collision. Alex and Brian cleared a space for her in the staircase, as it could not be possible to occupy more than three people walking freely. She murmured, "Thank you" as she sprinted to their class, still panting heavily and avoiding Alex's eyes. As t
Alex finally outperformed Charlotte in Mathematics for the first time , including all subjects, making him the class' top student for while Charlotte finished in second place for the third time in Alex's three school terms. Charlotte had been the one getting the first position, before Alex's admission into the school. He and Charlotte had gotten along and became friends, after the incident happened. They occasionally talk on WhatsApp about random topics, to Alex's surprise, because he never imagined their relationship would develop to such a degree.A few days after Alex celebrated his eighteenth birthday, he was eating on the dining table with his parents."In two days, we will be leaving for a vacation." His father abruptly announced. Alex was not sure who the statement was intended for. He turned to look at his mother and father, but his father was facing down while his mother continued to devour her food respectively, so he decided to act dumb. "I hope you heard what I said ?"
Alex was awakened by constant knocks on his bedroom door."I'm awake already." he cried, annoyed that he was woken up, when he slept just some hours ago. He had the spooky dream, which he has been having since some months ago and was afraid of sleeping back when he woke up from the dream, because he feared that he would have the same dream again, if he slept. “Oh!” he yelled, slamming the bed in frustration."Are you good?" his mother asked him, from the room she shared with his father. "Yes, I am," he calmly replied. He checked the time on the wall clock in his room and took out his phone that was on the table, to verify if the time on the wall clock was correct, or if it was stuck. To his surprise, he found the time on both his wall clock and his phone accurate. "Why am I woken up at this hour? It's just past 6am. " He wondered. He reluctantly got up from his bed, straightened his sheets and went into the bathroom. He brushed his teeth and bathed in the bathroom."I think the p
Alex saw himself running in a pitch-black environment, similar to his previous dreams. He was pacing aimlessly and perspiring a lot, due to the terrifying sight he saw.He stopped running, after he thought that his pursuer had dissipated and stopped chasing him. "That was extremely close." He said, heavily panting. He was still trying to catch up his breath, when he heard a swift footstep coming from where he was racing from. His heart beat faster than it was before, so, he turned to face the direction in which the pursuit was coming from and started to move backwards. He stopped moving after he stopped hearing the footsteps, and pondered why it stopped. He thought it had ceased pursuing him, and sighed in relief. He noticed someone was behind him due to the shadow behind his, and slowly turned back to see what it was. He winced as soon as he recognized the appearance he had been running from. He attempted to move back, but tripped, as it got closer to him.He has never witnessed
"Jesus!" His mother screamed, as the car moved towards the tree.Alex gripped his seat belt, which was already fastened to his seat belt, while his mother also did so, and held the dashboard. His father persisted in fending off the steering until it bashed a tree.Their head twitched forward, as the car slammed into the tree . Their skull would have collided with anything inside the car, if the seat belts had not stopped them. Smoke erupted from the car's hood, as it struck the tree. "Is everyone all right?" His dad enquired."Yes." Both he and his mother responded simultaneously."I mean, I hope nobody got hurt." He questioned his wife and Alex, to inspect if they had not sustain an injury from what happened."I'm good." Alex's mum replied, while Alex nodded his head in affirmation, since his father's eyes was still gazed at his."What about you, honey?""I'm good, thanks my love." His father replied his mum.People had gathered around the car while they were having the conversatio
The ride to the rest of the journey, was so silent. Alex was just busy observing the fascinating places they passed. The buildings and places he admired as they traveled changed as they continued their journey. He took pictures of the buildings and places he admired with his phone."Why is there still a mud house in this century?" He wondered, as they drove past a house built with mud with a thatched roof.He saw similar buildings like that, and some worse ones compared to them as they drove-by.He wondered, if his story would be like that of one of his schoolmates who went to spend a Christmas holiday in his village.According to the boy, it was the first time he visited his family members, along with his immediate family, in their village. He said that they planned to spend over a week for the Christmas and New Year holidays in their village, but only spent three days due to the barbaric ways of living in the village. He said that the only source of water in the village, was a strea
