Chapter 7 Where You Think You're Going, My Mate?

Keira POV

Rhoda was wearing a dark green low-cut velvet evening gown that displayed her cleavage and her shoulders. She looked down at me with a disgusted expression, "Except for your diamond earrings, you have no taste in fashion, and I bet no one will ask you to dance tonight."

"So what, I'd rather be outside in the fresh air on the terrace."

"Somebody needs to sob on the terrace." Rhoda walked to me with a whiff of perfume and grinned haughtily, "Do you suppose that there would be a Romeo who would throw pebbles at the window and take you to leave to somewhere? You wish!" She ran her hand through her hair.

How can someone misinterpret someone's words?

"Well, I hope Alpha declines to dance with you." I took Lynede's hand and walked away, didn't wait for her reaction. Because I didn't want to argue with her in this situation anymore. She was still cursing.

"Your earrings are really pretty! When did you buy them?" We stopped at a round table, Lynede asked me.

"No, they were given to me by..." "Dylan!? Was it him?" She grabbed my hand. "No, a puppy lover." "A puppy lover?" "...Forget it."

Just as I finished explaining to her, I, at last, spotted my brother at the entrance to the hall, who was conversing with someone. Apparently, he caught my stare and nodded at me.

"Speaking of Dylan, where is he? I thought he would follow you."

I pulled out my phone and saw the message he had sent me, he was already heading here to the hall. When I was still looking down to answer him, the females in the room started screaming as if they realized what was happening as soon as the lights in the hall went out. Five seconds later, the lights slowly came back on, and the hall was once again bright.

All the people cheered and clapped to welcome the new Alpha of the pack. I naturally wanted to obtain a glimpse of the mystery male, but there were too many people in front of me, blocking my way. Would he attend with a deerstalker? I snickered. Rhoda yelled as she fought her way into the crowd. I shook my head, spoke to Lynede, and headed in the opposite direction of the crowd, standing in a quiet corner.

I leaned back against the wall with a glass of wine in my hand and the few males that sometimes walked by sent curious looks, but I ignored them.

"Oh, look what I find," A voice said suddenly that made me look at that side. "Hello, beauty." A male with curly hair and many tattoos glazed at me. And he had pale skin which made his dark hair deeper and his tattoo more obvious.

"Don't drink alone, come dance with me." He stopped in front of me.

"Sorry, I don't wanna dance."

"OK. You can make me a drink. Come on." He chuckled, intending to grab my hand.

But, the next second, he sniffed and froze after a few seconds of staring at me. Withdrawing his hand, he panicked and looked around, then silently went away.

I stared at his back and I was confused in my mind about his reaction. Do I smell weird? Doesn't matter. Alcohol could take all your troubles away. After a few sips of wine, I started to find this ball very dull.

My brother has already seen me, so perhaps I should depart earlier than planned. I don't know anyone except my brother and Lynede. This ball is too boring. I ought to have stayed in the forest, climbing that hill, and enjoying the summer breeze. It is such a lovely day; the sunset must have been stunning, and what color would that lake be in the afterglow—a ruby or an amethyst?

The boisterous crowd eventually started to quiet down. As they proceeded to the center of the hall, the first few notes of a soft, slow song began to play. They extend their hands and stoop down in a gesture of invitation to the females in front of them. As the orchestra played, they started to dance, holding firm to one another and swaying together fluidly.

I saw a couple in front of me, the male held his hand out to his mate and gave her a half bow. She accepted eagerly. They began to step, circle, and step in time with the music. The male turned her head away as his arms wrapped around her back, holding her close. They moved and swayed. The male tightened his grasp as he met her eyes. She turned her head away, resting it against his warm chest as his arms wrapped around her back, holding her close. Warm arms wrapped around each other, they were lost in a world that blocked out everything else.

It should be a pleasure to dance with one's mate, I thought. The first dance was over.

I put my glass down and headed ahead, trying to find Lynede; she certainly couldn't hear the phone ringing right now. Just as I saw her back and wanted to wave at her, the crowd in front of me suddenly all abruptly moved aside as if making way for someone.

A familiar figure showed up and I glanced at it, frozen in place, not taking my eyes off the figure. He moved closer to me while maintaining eye contact with me as if I was his prey. I sensed something strange. His footsteps became more audible as he approached me.

Calm down, Keira. You need to calm down, nothing could have happened; he is probably simply passing by.

Life was never better. He came to a stop only a few steps in front of me. Everyone around us went silent.

I lowered my head like I didn't know him, and apologized to him mentally. I truly didn't wanna be in the spotlight.

Why do they take notice of him as if he is rare? Why do they have such an attitude? Is he a murderer, or did he do something that made him famous? Or he is the A...

He almost laughed when he saw me duck my head and act like I didn't know him, then in a loud voice he said, "Hello puppy. No, excuse me! To be precise... my mate."

Hearing what he said, my eyes widened and I was about to run.

He grabbed my hand, "Where do you think you're going?"

He must have done it on purpose!
