I was frozen in place, my breath catching in my throat. There was no way to escape without being seen. Whoever stood behind the door would spot me in seconds.

The door cracked open, then stopped. It hung there, ajar, but no one stepped out.

My heart hammered against my ribs. Every fibre of my being screamed at me to run, but my feet felt rooted to the polished marble.

I could hear voices, now clear and sharp, cutting through the thick soundproofing of the room.

It was Alpha Moretti

And at least one other person.

“My instructions are final, Silas. I don't want us discussing Ombra Nera any further,” Alpha Moretti’s voice, cold and authoritative, vibrated.

The person at the door hesitated. This was my chance to run. But I didn’t. I couldn’t. The words had already grabbed my attention. My curiosity and a desperate need for answers kept me rooted there.

“Alpha, this can't work," Silas said. "We need all hands on deck this period, we have shipments coming in and out.” His words had a stam

A flower bloomed because of me.Wait, I'll rephrase that. I touched a flower bud and it fully bloomed three days later. All of the flower buds remained in their previous states as buds except that one. I had to cancel the training with Maria so I could stumble back into my room to think about what I had seen. The whole thing sounded bizarre even to me. There was no logical reasoning to explain how an immature flower bud bloomed into a flower in three days while the rest of the garden was still budding. And this happened only after I touched that one. I figured it was connected to the strange occurrences that happened with the lightbulbs and the lamp in my room weeks before. I didn't know what was happening to me. The only other person who knew about it at that time was Trevor and I didn't think having a heart-to-heart with my personal security was really the way to go. “What is happening to me, Makayla?” I asked in a whisper while I sat in the bathtub. I needed some explanatio

“Now, you keep that foot planted firmly on the ground, that would help steady your stance,” Maria instructed and I followed suit.I opened a wider gap between my legs on the ground and took a stance similar to the one she had shown me some minutes before.“Did I get it right this time?” I asked her with an expectant smile. She kissed her teeth. “I think we still need to work on it.”“I'll take that as a no then,” I groaned, returning back to a usual standing position and then plopping down to the ground. “Giving up so early?” She asked from above me.“No, just taking a well deserved break,” I replied, panting slightly. There was still one day left before Sofia was meant to return back to the pack and I was still bored out of my mind. I had asked Maria to teach me how to fight and luckily enough, she agreed. Although I knew she wouldn't say no to the Luna anyway. When she asked what my level of knowledge was and I replied none, she suggested I start with self defense and strength b

Sofia said not to freak out but for the next two days after we spoke, that was all I did. And she had picked the perfect period to travel for a five day trip. Five! Which meant I was left alone with my thoughts, which were very jumbled, if I may add. At least, I knew why Alpha Moretti came back for me. It made his threat slightly less threatening. He might be a terrible person but he was an amazing Alpha to his people and his pack. Still, I didn't want to do anything to cross him.The strange pair of eyes I had seen in my dream the other day was yet to make an appearance again. Probably because I now had something bigger to focus on.Sofia thought Makayla might be back. It sounded impossible and even a little stupid but I wished more than anything that it were true. Which was why I had been speaking to the silence in my head and almost been losing my mind in the process.“Mind if I help you with that?” I heard someone say from behind me, breaking me out of my daydream where I co

Unsurprisingly, Alpha Moretti ignored my question. He had Nigel drive me back to the pack house while he rode in the second car.Through the drive back, Nigel was quiet and so was I. He was a part of the mafia too and had seen what his Alpha don did to me. I was visibly shaken after watching the women get picked up by men who had the highest amount of money to pay for them.Women trafficking was a criminal offence and those people were involved in a crime. I had heard that things like that happen but I always guessed they were underground operations amongst criminals. Never did I expect to have been brought to watch women get auctioned to slimy rich assholes. “Are you alright, Luna?” I heard Nigel ask.It was then I realized I had been crying. Wiping away the tears furiously, I turned my head to the window so he couldn't see my face from the rear view mirror. “I'm fine,” I responded coldly.Lisa had mentioned something about me bringing life back into the pack and now, Alpha Mor

Many times, I've thought Alpha Moretti could turn out to be a decent human being. And each time, I've been disappointed. After he made that statement, saliva dried from my mouth and I swallowed hard, the muscles in my throat tightened as I tried to hold back my fear. I had no idea what he meant but I knew I was about to find out.The gorgeous dark green dress I wore started to feel itchy on my skin and my fingers grew clammy. The car slowed and turned off the main road, the smooth road giving way to a rough, gravel path. The headlights rested on a large building upfront. It looked like an abandoned company. As we approached, I noticed two men standing guard by the entrance. They nodded respectfully to Alpha Moretti, and we drove on into the open garage. The garage was massive and was filled with expensive cars. A man with a tattoo that ran down his neck to his wrist opened my door. He was human, I couldn't smell a wolf on him."Sir, ma'am, right this way," he said in a low voice.

The words rushed out of my mouth before I could stop them. Alpha Moretti’s eyes narrowed to angry slits. The two men behind him, the young soldier and the older guard, had expressions of shock and curiosity on their faces. “What rubbish is this?” Alpha Moretti hissed.I felt a tremor run through me and I tried to conceal it. I had seen the files already. “You heard me!” I blurted, my voice cracking slightly but my words firm. “Your beloved Alpha is a monster! He–”His growl cut me off. The sound shook the foundations of the building. He clamped his hand around my upper arm with a crushing grip, his eyes burnt with a fury so intense it knocked air out of my lungs. He yanked me into the room and slammed the door shut behind us, turning the lock. We stood away from each other in the middle of the room.I gulped, my heart pounding furiously against my ribs. My arm throbbed where his fingers had dug into my skin, but the physical pain was nothing compared to the cold dread that had quickl
