LOGINThe Alpha King had died.
The news spread like wildfire across the four Packs of the Republic; The South Pack, The White-Fur pack, The Black-claw Pack and The Blood-Rose Pack. I was serving breakfast to Gunner when I overheard Alpha Randolph, his father, breaking the news to him. “This is our chance, Gunner,” Alpha Randolph tapped him on the shoulder. “If all turns out well, you might just become the next Alpha king.” Alpha Gunner was strong. I heard when he was ten, he took down ten Beta soldiers all by himself without breaking a sweat. He was more than qualified to be Alpha king. At least, that was what everyone believes. In a nation of werewolves such as the Republic, the Alpha king was the most powerful and revered person. He's like a president, but we werewolves simply call him the Alpha king. “Would Alpha Leonidas be in attendance at the new moon festival?” Alpha Gunner asked, worried creases forming on his face. Alpha Leonidas. Pack leader of the Blood-Rose Pack. I've heard rumors about him. He's the most hated and feared Alpha in the Republic. Words had it that he lives outside the Republic in isolation with his Pack because of his curse. I still haven't got the full gist about him, but from the little I gathered, Alpha Leonidas was a force to be reckoned with. “I spoke with the other pack leaders,” Alpha Randolph continued. “I lost the vote against inviting him to the festival. We have decided that all pack leaders must be present at the festival, Leonidas included.” Alpha Gunner didn't like this. “That bastard. I hate him with every fibre of my being.” Out of nowhere, I accidentally spilled Alpha Gunner's tea on his lap. I covered my mouth with my hands, my body shaking in fear. “I-I'm sorry—” Alpha Gunner didn't let me finish. His big hand connected to my face, smacking me down to the floor. “Pathetic,” he spat on me and walked out of the dining hall. Alpha Randolph took one good look at me, then ordered. “What are you whimpering for? Clean up this mess!” “Yes, Alpha Randolph.” I crawled to the table and began cleaning up the tea I spilled. Just then, the door swung open and Beatrice stepped in. Beatrice was the South Pack's Luna. Just like her son, she was proud and intimidating. She hated anyone who was beneath her. It's clear to note that she hated me as much as she hated anyone else and would find every possible means to bully me. When Beatrice saw me cleaning up the mess I made, she wrinkled her nose in disgust much like her son. “Lazy girl,” she snapped, kicking me in my abdomen. “Look at all these wastes. You're so clumsy.” The pains sapped through me, but I endured it. My body had grown accustomed to Alpha Gunner's regular beatings that Beatrice's kicks didn't land that much weight. Beatrice turned to her husband. “I saw Gunner on my way out. He looks livid.” “He's just mad Leonidas would attend the new moon festival,” Alpha Randolph replied. “Have you lost your mind?” Beatrice exclaimed. “We will be hosting the new moon festival. I won't welcome Leonidas under my roof.” “We don't have a choice, Beatrice,” Alpha Randolph sighed. “This is direct orders from the council. We must choose a new Alpha king from among the four packs. Leonidas must be in attendance.” Beatrice grumbled. I finished cleaning my mess and exited the dining area. On my way out, I bumped into Alpha Gunner. He had been waiting for me outside the dining chamber. Before I could make a move, he grabbed me by my throat and pulled me close. “Come with me,” he growled. I swallowed. Am I in trouble? * * * * Alpha Gunner rolled his massive body off me, panting like a wild dog. Long beads of sweat trickled down his muscular back as he stood up from the bed and walked to the open window. I remained sprawled on the bed, my body aching in pain. He had spent the last two hours, fucking me like an animal in heat. Today, he was more brutal than other times. I had never seen him this angry before. It was as if he was channeling all his hate into his cock. I had already lost count of how many times he had cum inside me. It doesn't matter any more. I was just glad it was over. Curling myself into a small ball, I sniffed while holding back my tears. There were deep claw marks all over my body. He was just too rough. Alpha Gunner ran his hands over his sweating face, his expression tight. “There, I feel better now.” I said nothing. I slowly sat up on the bed, my back turned to him, my eyes lifeless. Alpha Gunner wandered over to me, his eyes glassy. “I'm sure you're aware of what's going on, bitch.” I was too weak to reply but I nodded. “Good,” he grabbed my cheeks with one hand and squeezed it tight. “Now that I've released my frustration, it's time we have a talk.” I swallowed, prepared to take anything. Gunner began, his voice as cold as ice. "Up until now, you've kept your goddamn mouth shut. You haven't revealed to anyone that I'm your mate. That makes me glad.” He paused, a cruel smile playing on his lips. “Soon, I'm going to become Alpha king. In order to qualify, I must find myself a Luna. There's no way in hell I'll make someone as weak and ugly as you are, my Luna." My heart spasms. I could see where this was leading to but I remained silent. “In that regard, I will reject you and break the mate bond between us,” Alpha Gunner said. I sniffed. But deep inside, I was rejoicing. “Okay. Do as you wish.” He released my cheeks and stood to his full height. “Kylie, I Alpha Gunner rejects you as my mate!” I bit my lips so hard I could taste blood. “I… I accept your rejection.” “Excellent,” Alpha Gunner then snarled at me. “Now get out of my sight.” I picked up my dress on the floor and walked naked out of his room. He wandered over to his inbuilt bar cabinet and mixed himself a drink. Not once did he turn to look at me. But suddenly, I stopped at the doorway, clutching my dress tightly to my chest. I could feel my heart racing. “Why do you hate me so much?” I asked. The question had come out of nowhere, like a second thought spilling out of my mouth. Alpha Gunner turned sharply and stared at me like I was a crate of rotten eggs. "What was that?" I shivered at the harsh note in his tone but my voice rang out again. "Why do you hate me so much?"KYLIE'S POVOver the next few hours, as the afternoon sun shifted through the shuttered window, I learned more about Peirhaven than I ever expected to know.It was a tiny fishing village, home to maybe fifty families, all human. They had no connection to the werewolf world, no knowledge of packs or alphas. They lived simple lives—fishing by day, mending nets by evening, gathering at the small tavern on weekends to drink and tell stories.Elias had lived here his entire seventy-three years. His wife, Martha, had died five winters ago. His son had moved to the city years before that and rarely visited. He was alone now, filling his days with fishing and walks on the beach. He asked no questions about where I came from or why I was covered in bruises. He simply fed me, gave me a place to rest, and treated me like a daughter he'd never had.By evening, as the sun began to set over the grey sea, I knew I couldn't keep hiding the truth. Not all of it, anyway.Elias sat at the small wooden
THIRD POV:Edgar stood at the edge of the abandoned territory as he surveyed the skeletal remains of the Blood-Rose Pack's former home. The buildings were even more decayed than during his last visit—roofs collapsed further, walls crumbled, nature slowly reclaiming homes. He walked through the dead streets alone, his footsteps echoing in the oppressive silence. The statue of Aldric loomed ahead, dark and silent against the grey sky. Edgar approached it slowly, his old eyes studying it carefully. There was something wrong here. He had felt it during their night visit with Leonidas, but now, alone in the daylight, the feeling was unmistakable. He circled the statue slowly, running his fingers along the stone base. Beneath the base was a pulsing malevolence energy buried deeply.Edgar knelt, pressing his palm flat against the cold stone. He closed his eyes, reaching out with his magic senses. What he felt made his blood run cold.Evil. Pure, concentrated evil, was seeping up from bene
THIRD POV:Gunner's eyes fluttered open to the sterile white ceiling of the medical wing. His body ached, every muscle screaming in protest. He turned his head slowly.Alpha Rudolph sat in a chair beside his bed, his face drawn with worry that melted into relief the moment he saw his son was awake."Gunner," he exclaimed, leaning forward. "Thank the Moon. You're awake."Gunner tried to sit up, wincing at the pull of IV lines in his arm. "What happened while I was out, Father?"Rudolph's face transformed into triumphant."Son, you won." He gripped Gunner's shoulder, his eyes gleaming. "Leonidas has been banned from the Republic permanently. The council declared him too dangerous. You are now the Alpha King."Gunner stared at him for a long moment. Then, slowly, he sat up fully, ignoring the protests of his body. He immediately reached down and began pulling the IV lines from his arm, one by one."Is that right?" Gunner said quietly. He flexed his broken arm. It moved perfectly without
Leonidas didn't move. His cheek stung where her hand had connected, but he made no effort to touch it. Instead, his eyes hardened, his wolf rising to the surface despite everything."That's insubordination," he said quietly. "Striking your alpha."Doris laughed bitterly "Insubordination? You want to talk to me about insubordination after what you just admitted?" She stepped closer, her grey eyes blazing with hurt and rage. "You used me, Leonidas. You came to me, asked me to stand as your Luna, made me believe you had finally chosen your pack over her. But it was all a lie."Leonidias snapped. "It wasn't a lie—""Wasn't it?" She cut him off, her hands shaking at her sides. "You needed a replacement Luna just long enough to get through the selection. Just long enough to get the information you needed. I was never your choice. I was just a tool."Leonidas's jaw tightened. "That's not—""Don't." She held up a hand. "Don't stand there and try to soften it. You used me. There's no other w
THIRD POV:The aftermath of the fight was a disaster. Gunner was immediately rushed to the medical wing, his broken body barely clinging to life. The council meeting was called at dawn.Leonidas stood before the assembled leaders in the same chamber where the selection had begun. His body was healed now but his eyes were hollow, and his shoulders felt heavy with guilt.Doris stood at his side, her hand gripping his. Edgar flanked them, his weathered face grim. The Head of the Council sat at the center of the long table, his eyes filled with something Leonidas had never seen there before: fear."Alpha Leonidas," the Head began, his voice heavy, "you stand before us to answer for what occurred last night."Leonidas said nothing. There was nothing to say."We have reviewed the match from every angle," the Head continued. "We have consulted with our historians, our spiritual advisors, our elders. And we have reached a conclusion."He paused, letting his words settle over the room."What
KYLIE'S POVMy consciousness returned slowly, like wading through thick mud.The first thing I noticed was the smell—salt and fish and wood smoke. The second thing was the warmth. I was lying on something soft, covered by something heavy and rough.A blanket.I forced my eyes open.I was in a small room, barely larger than the cave cell I'd escaped. Wooden walls, a single shuttered window, a rickety table with a flickering candle. The bed beneath me was lumpy but dry, and for the first time in what felt like forever, I wasn't cold.Movement to my left made me flinch. An old man sat in a wooden chair by the window, whittling a piece of driftwood with a worn knife. He had a weathered face, deep lines carved by sun and wind, and a thick grey beard that reached his chest. His eyes, when they lifted to meet mine, were pale blue and surprisingly kind."Well, well," he said, his voice rough as gravel. "The fish brought in something interesting today."I tried to sit up, but my body screame
Third Pov:Gunner hated his new mate. Her name was Elara. She was drop dead gorgeous. She had the kind of beauty turned heads. But something was missing. There was no pull. There was no wolf bonding between them. When she stood too close, he felt nothing. When she touched him, his wolf remained s
Leonidas turned to me sharply. “What do you mean she’s right?”I drew in a breath, steadying myself. “I mean exactly what I said,” I replied softly. “The Alpha King position would grant you power and influence. If you become an Alpha king, your pack would be welcomed back to the Republic.”He frown
The voice didn’t leave me like I thought it would. It only grew stronger in my head.It followed me into sleep—and refused to let me rest. That night, I tossed and turned endlessly, my sheets damp with sweat, my breaths shallow and uneven. Every time I drifted off, the darkness swallowed me whole,
THIRD PERSON POV:Earlier that afternoon, long before Leonidas set foot in the Council Hall, Gunner had already arrived. He entered through the eastern doors with Elara of the White-Fur Pack at his side. Her presence was too impossible to ignore. She was draped in pale silver fabric that shimmered
