Se connecterREIGN'S POV
Sonya signs the contract with shaking hands.
I watch every stroke of the pen, every hesitation, every moment she considers backing out. But she doesn't. Because she's loyal to a fault, even to someone who doesn't deserve her loyalty.
Derek doesn't deserve shit from this woman.
The moment she finishes signing, I lock the contract in my desk drawer. It's done. She's mine now. For six months, at least.
Though I'm betting it'll be much longer than that.
"Congratulations," I tell her. "You're now mine."
"For six months," she corrects quickly, and I almost smile at how she's already trying to maintain control.
"We'll see."
The truth is, six months won't be enough. I already know that. I've known it since last night when I saw her hiding in those bushes, looking at Derek like he hung the fucking moon.
She deserves better than pining after my idiot brother.
She deserves someone who sees her. Who wants her. Who'll burn the world down before letting anyone hurt her.
She deserves me.
My phone rings, and I look down to see my Beta, Landon, calling.
Timing couldn't be worse.
"I need to take this. Wait here." I step into the hallway, answering. "What's the matter, Lan?"
"We have a problem, Reign," Landon says. "Ronan found out Derek came to you. He's pissed. Word is he's sending men to make an example before the forty-eight hours are up."
Fuck.
"How long do we have?"
"An hour, maybe two. I've already sent some gammas to look after Derek, but Ronan's people are fast."
"Send more gammas. Now. And prepare the guest house, we're having a permanent visitor." I glance back at my office door, where Sonya's waiting. "Actually, prepare the Luna's suite. Connect it to mine."
"The Luna's suite?" Landon sounds surprised. "Reign, I thought this was just a contract thing?"
"It is. But she's under my protection now. That means she gets treated like my Luna. Full stop."
"Understood. What about her apartment?"
"Send someone to pack her things. Everything. I want her moved in by tonight."
"On it."
I hang up and head back inside. Sonya's staring at her phone, clearly texting Derek. Her face is conflicted with guilt, fear, and determination, all mixing together.
She has no idea how beautiful she is. How her emotions play across her face like an open book. How badly I want to kiss away every doubt she's feeling.
"Change of plans," I tell her. "We're leaving. Now."
She looks up, startled. "What? Why?"
"Because the Rogue King just found out Derek sent you to me for help. And he's not happy about it." I grab my jacket. "Which means Derek is in immediate danger, and you're coming with me to my estate where you'll be protected."
"But I need to…"
"Pack your things? Already taken care of. I sent someone to your apartment a minute ago." I take her arm, feeling how delicate her bones are under my grip.
She's so much smaller than me. Vulnerable. The need to protect her is almost overwhelming. "You signed the contract, Sonya. That means you follow my rules now. And rule number one is your safety comes first."
"You sent someone to my apartment? Without asking me?"
"Yes."
"That's insane!"
"That's life with me, little omega. Better get used to it."
I can see her wanting to argue, wanting to fight back. And fuck, I love that fire in her eyes. Most people cower when I use my Alpha tone. She just gets angry.
Perfect.

In the SUV, Landon's driving and I'm on the phone with my head gamma, coordinating Derek's protection detail.
"I don't give a shit what Ronan wants," I tell him. "Derek Savage is under my protection now. Anyone who touches him answers to me."
I hang up and look at Sonya. She's staring out the window, her face tight. Still processing everything.
"Your ex-boyfriend is an idiot," I say.
"He's not my boyfriend."
"But you want him to be." I study her profile, the curve of her neck, the way her red hair falls over her shoulder. "Tell me, Sonya, what is it about Derek that makes you so desperate? Is it the way he ignores you? The way he fucks other girls while you pine?"
"Stop it."
But I can't stop. I need her to see what's right in front of her. "Or maybe you just like the idea of him. The safe, familiar choice. Because the alternative, admitting what you really want scares the shit out of you."
"And what do I really want?" She turns to face me, those hazel eyes flashing with challenge.
My wolf howls in approval. Yes. Fight me. Show me that fire.
"Me."
I close the distance and kiss her before she can respond. Before she can think. Before she can talk herself out of what we both know is inevitable.
She tastes like vanilla and something sweeter. Her lips are soft, hesitant at first, then hungry. Her hands fist in my jacket, pulling me closer instead of pushing me away.
Through the kiss, I feel it, the connection that's been building since last night. The pull that goes beyond physical attraction. The bond that makes my wolf recognize her.
‘Mate,’’ he whispers. ‘Ours.’
I pull back before I completely lose control in the back of my SUV with Landon right there.
"That," I say, stroking her swollen lips with my thumb, "is what you really want. And I'm going to give it to you. Every filthy, forbidden bit of it."
She's staring at me with wide eyes, lips parted, breathing hard. Aroused and confused and completely perfect.
"Welcome home, little omega," I murmur as we pull through my estate gates. "Your new life starts now."
REIGN'S POV"You're lying." My voice cracks. "You're bluffing.""Am I? Think about it, Reign. Melvanie knows you'll come for Sonya. She's not stupid. She's been collecting for centuries precisely because she's smarter than everyone who's tried to stop her." My father checks his watch, the move casual and devastating. "So she'll move her prize acquisition somewhere even I don't know about. Somewhere so hidden, so protected, that even your mate bond won't help you find her."Through the bond, I feel Sonya's fear spike. Something's wrong. She's running out of time. We're running out of time."What's the guarantee you want?" The question drags out of me, flat and resigned. "Because you're not exactly trustworthy, and I'm not stupid enough to make a deal based on a handshake.""An unbreakable oath. Witnessed and bound by an elder of the Council of Ancients." He pulls out his phone again, already dialing. "I already have Seer Elric on standby. He's three minutes away."What? How the…Of cou
REIGN'S POVI find my father in an alley behind the auction house, smoke drifting from his cigarette like he's just having a casual fucking smoke break instead of manipulating his son into an impossible choice. The sight of him standing there, relaxed, like he hasn't destroyed lives and betrayed everyone who ever trusted him, makes my wolf snarl with rage."You came," he says, not bothering to turn around."You threatened to tell Melvanie my plans. Of course I came." I stay near the alley entrance, keeping distance between us, not trusting myself not to rip his throat out. "What do you want?""To make you an offer." He takes a long drag, the ember flaring bright in the dark, then turns to face me. His eyes scheming, cold. The eyes of a man who's been playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers. "I know where Melvanie's facility is located."My heart stops, then kicks into overdrive. "Bullshit.""It's not bullshit. I've been working with her for years, remember?" He drops th
SONYA'S POV"I made a few arrangements, Sonya. Hired some creatures in the Shadowlands to ensure any quests for magical blades end in failure. Or death. Whichever comes first." Melvanie cocks her head. "Did you really think I wouldn't have contingencies? That I'd just let you and your mate search for a way to break my contracts without interference?""You're a monster.""I'm practical." She turns away, walking back to her throne. "And now, Sonya, we need to discuss your punishment."The chains on my wrists flare bright purple, and pain explodes through me.It's unlike anything I've ever felt. Not just physical pain, though there's plenty of that. It's deeper. Like the magic is reaching into my very soul, tearing at the essence of who I am.I scream, my knees buckling."That's level one," Melvanie says conversationally, like she's sharing a fun fact. "The contract has ten levels of punishment built in. Each one progressively worse than the last. Right now, you're experiencing what happ
SONYA'S POVThe ride back to Melvanie's facility feels longer this time.Maybe because I know what's waiting for me. Punishment. Disappointment. The slow erosion of my will as the contract tightens its grip.I failed.I was supposed to get the amulet. Instead, I watched Reign and his father tear into a bidding war while Garrick finally walked away with it.The enforcer, whose name is Quinn, drives in silence, her eyes occasionally darting to the rearview mirror to check on me. She hasn't spoken since we left the auction house, but I can feel her watching, evaluating, reporting back to Melvanie through whatever magical connection they've got going on.Quinn's tattoo on her neck glows faintly purple every few minutes. Each time it does, her expression goes blank for a moment before returning to that carefully neutral mask. She's communicating with Melvanie right now. Telling her everything. My stomach churns with dread."She knows, doesn't she?" I finally ask, breaking the silence. "Mel
REIGN'S POVMy wolf snarls, itching to shift, to tear my father's throat out. But I force myself to stay still. How the hell did my father know?Garrick walks away before I can respond, the amulet now in his possession."What did he say?" Sonya presses."He wants to meet. Says he knows about my plans.""It's a trap.""Obviously." I turn to face her fully, taking in every detail. The shadows under her eyes. The way she holds herself like she's expecting an attack. The chains glowing faintly at her wrists. The faint bruises on her arms where someone gripped her too hard. "How bad is it?" I ask quietly. "With Melvanie?""It's..." She swallows hard, and I see her fighting back tears. "I'm okay. For now. But Reign, you need to leave Prague. If she finds out you're here, if she realizes we made contact...""Let her find out. I'm not leaving without you.""You don't have a choice. The contract won't let me leave, and if you try to force it, the kill spell activates." The tears spill over no
REIGN'S POVBidding erupts around us like a feeding frenzy."Three million!" a witch in the back shouts, her voice sharp and eager."Four million," counters a vampire to my left, his pale fingers already reaching for his wallet."Six million euros," I call out, my voice cutting through the chaos. The room settles slightly. Six million is serious money, even in the supernatural black market. People are starting to take notice, wondering who the hell I am and why I'm bidding so aggressively.Beside me, Sonya grips my arm. "Reign, this is insane. You can't afford this.""Watch me."The truth is, I can afford it. Without flinching. The pack's accounts are healthy, and I have personal investments that have done well. But six million euros is still a staggering amount to spend on a single artifact."Seven million," the witch counters, her eyes narrowed at me across the room."Eight million." I don't hesitate."Nine!" The vampire again."Ten million euros," I say, and the room goes complete
