“Are you sure she works in the palace?” Lilith said as soon as we got into the car. I shrugged.

“I think it was just in your head,” Lilith said.

“You sure?”

She nodded. I stared at her and she smiled. “Believe me, Nina.”

I gave her a small smile and turned to my side of the car. While we rode back, I was deep in thought, what if she heard what the doctor said? My heart broke. I looked down and rubbed my belly. I was scared for my baby and myself.

We got back to the palace just in time before the gates were closed. Lilith called a few of her maid friends and her stepson, Lucas, to my chambers. She said it would act as a noise distraction. So whenever they hear anything coming from my room, we could easily say it was Lucas. Lilith tried to make me feel safe, but I was still troubled. The girl from the clinic made me worried. As I slept that night, I tried to assure myself that it was just in my head.

  • The Dark Alpha's Secret mate    Worried

It’s been 4 solid months since I last saw Knox. He had been locked up in the council of alphas' prison. He and his beta. I never thought I would miss him. Even after what he had done to me. Killing my parents, as they say. Though I didn’t believe any of it, there was that part that terrified the hell out of me. The slightest chance that everyone was right. That my brother was right in calling him a beast.Though that part hurt me but when I recalled that I was not his beloved, my heart shattered all over again. Knox had looked me in the eye and lied to me. He had told me he wouldn’t thread the time with me for anything. And I believed him. I cherished the night we spent together. The one before hell broke loose. I often caught myself fantasizing about what-ifs on most rainy nights. Above all my wishes, I had wanted something the most. A souvenir. I was at home with the fact that I might never see Knox again. He had hurt too many people already, but despite all he did, I wanted som

  • The Dark Alpha's Secret mate    Life without him

3 MONTHS LATER I stared out the window, watching him as I counted my breaths. Something bad was about to happen. I could feel it. The silence of the night grew more intense each second, and before I could count my ninth breath, a truck crashed into our car. My mom screamed in shock as our car tumbled to the side of the cliff. Everything happened in a flash. My ears became attuned to a painful, blurring sound. When I opened my eyes, all I saw was blood gushing out of my dying mother's neck. Her eyes were sorrowful and dull, life slipping out of her slowly. "Mommy." I cried, trying to reach out to her. "Mommy." My brother called out with a cracked voice. He was injured on the side of his head and was bleeding from his mouth. "Run, Kira. Don't look back, mommy will come and get you," she managed to stutter, even though her eyes held blame in them. I cried, unable to abandon them, but my mom yelled, then muttered a word that set me free from the car seat belt. I crawled out qu

  • The Dark Alpha's Secret mate    Defending him

I stood still like a candle glued to a spot. "Nina," the voice came again. My eyes flew wide. It was him. He was really talking to me. I tried to turn around, but then I recalled what the witch said.He has no beloved.Ashira's Laughter echoed in my ears. I shook my head as if to shake it out of my head. And out of an unpleasant moment, I drew my strength. I'd made up my mind to never look back, even if my head were to fall off. I heard my name two more times before the gate opened for us all to go in. We stood in front of the council of Alphas. Every one of us. I could see some people from the winter fell pack. From the corner of my eye, I could see Knox. The two guards dragged him like he was some rag doll. For a moment, I began to think he might be deceiving us all. He was a hybrid for crying out loud. He wouldn't be defeated just like that. The alphas walked into the court and sat. My heart began to race. In their mouths held the key to Knox's freedom. As soon as one of them

“Don’t touch him!” I tried to shield him, but Xander held me bound. “Ashira, stop! Please, you don’t have to kill him!” I cried. She raised the Stake to the sky. “No!!!! Please stop, I beg you,” but all my pleas fell on deaf ears. She descended the stake down to Knox’s chest, and he coughed out blood, and he began to turn black. “No!!!!!” Tears began to fall. He was dead. He was dead. Oh no! I threw myself to the floor and wept. “Why did you have to kill him?” I pulled at my hair, muttering or screaming. Xander let go of me as I rolled in the blood and sand. A thousand and one things were happening to me. I had an elevated heart rate and pulse. My muscles were going limp quickly I couldn’t even lift a finger. I began seeing spots. I gasped. I couldn’t breathe. I began feeling like I couldn’t get enough oxygen. My breath came out all rushed. I lay there on the ground, and then I could see someone screaming. She had her hands stretched out to me. “Nina!” she wailed. I could fain

  • The Dark Alpha's Secret mate    Shocked

A woman was staring at me when I woke up. My eyelids fluttered. For a moment, I didn’t know a thing about myself. When that woman smirked at me, recognition hit me. Ashira. I jerked up. “Nina, you are awake!” I turned to see Lilith behind me. She had tears running down her cheeks. It seemed like she had been crying for a while. I wanted to wipe her tears, but I noticed I couldn’t move my hands. It felt like they were made of stone. “You finally woke up,” she said as she cupped my face in her arms. “ I told you she would,” a voice said.” It’s the shock from the mate bond. I turned around to see the man standing beside Ashira, and everything I thought was a nightmare turned out to be true. The dead bodies of dead wolves. The blood, dismembered bodies, and tears began to fall from my eyes, and I didn’t bother to clean them. “Come on, let’s go,” Lilith said between tears. I turned and saw that lying beside me was Knox. I threw myself on him immediately. “Your highness

  • The Dark Alpha's Secret mate    Danger

I was running around like a headless chicken after I had put on some clothes, then Lilith grabbed me. “Listen up, Nina, "she said. “Now is not the time to cry and yell, now is the time to act,” she said in gritted teeth. “If you want to help Alpha Knox, we have to leave here, we have to do something.” I quickly nodded. I ran to the door and kept banging, but no one was answering, nor was the door opening. I put my ear to the door, and it was silent. My heart raced. Where was the guard stationed here? I turned. “Lilith, the door won't open. How can we leave?” She also began to bang on the door. She sighed. “It’s useless, we need to find another way out.” Her eyes scanned the room. I too was staring at the room I had occupied for months. It was now that I was seeing certain things I didn't bother to check. “There!” I pointed to a vent. “Alright, let's get a chair to reach there,” Lilith said. Together, we stacked chairs high up to the ceiling and then removed the vent. Lilith wa

  • The Dark Alpha's Secret mate    Starts sweet, ends sour.

My eyes opened, and the first thing I laid my eyes on was a pair of eyes. Hunter-shaped. They were covered, but I most definitely knew the colors behind them. Dark green. They were so dark that they could be black when he was pissed. Paired with his black hair, he was dangerously handsome. The kind you wouldn't want to come close to. With one look, Knox had me melting. He could compel me. I thought for a moment. Could he compel like some vampires? Well, he was only part vampire. Don't tell me it's just the blood aspect he got from his vampire side?I sighed softly. That doesn't matter. This dangerously looking hybrid wanted me, and I could not say no. Memories of our night together flashed through my head, and I blushed red. The way his hands did wonders on me. They were as soft as a feather but firm as a hammer. I leaned in and gave him a small kiss. Then I pulled away strands of hair from his head. Watching him sleep. This must be the most peaceful I have seen him. Even when he

  • The Dark Alpha's Secret mate    A Little Happiness

When I opened my eyes that morning, I tried to wave aside that gory, bloodied dream I had. I shook my head. Today was for Lilith, and I needed good emotions. Weddings always make me cry, but Lilith’s hit different. It was like a dream come true. To see her go from her lowest to how she is now made me smile like an idiot. It felt surreal. I watched her glow as she stood with Vok. Who knew that the beta was going to be her mate? I mean, if I were asked in a million years to come, I would never think the Beta was the one for her. Even though he looked like stone when he was talking about work or with the alpha, every time he saw Lilith, he was all smiles. It was strange seeing Vok smile, but Lilith had that effect on people. She was the most positive person I have ever known. And then there was Lukas, Vok’s young son, proudly carrying the rings with a grin so big his cheeks looked sore. Lilith had told me, when his father asked that she marry him, Lukas begged that she be his mot
