Damian's POV

As the metal gate of the mental institution clanged shut once again, the fluorescent lights in the corridor were completely cut off, plunging the ward back into suffocating, pitch-black silence.

I was strapped tightly to an iron-framed bed. My wrists and ankles had long since been rubbed raw, covered in layer upon layer of dark, crusted scabs.

I had just undergone the most intense electroshock treatment yet, and my body was still convulsing violently against my will. Cold sweat had soaked through my thin hospital gown, plastering it to my back in a sickening, sticky mess.

The faint smell of burnt flesh, seared by the high-voltage current, still lingered in the air.

For the past month, this living hell had been my daily reality.

Serena Seacrest, my wife, whom I had loved for seven years, had personally sent me to this hell on earth just to make me pay for what happened to her childhood sweetheart, Adrian Cross.

A month ago, Adrian had tripped and fallen down the stairs at our mansion, nearly breaking his leg.

I had been standing two yards away from him, yet he clutched his leg and pointed at me, claiming I had pushed him out of jealousy over the place he held in Serena's heart.

Serena didn't even give me a chance to defend myself. She had me pinned down against the cold floor and said, "Damian Vale, you are absolutely vicious! If you can't control your jealousy, I'll send you to a mental institution and let them teach you what it means to be a normal person!"

No matter how I shouted or tried to explain, Serena remained unmoved.

It wasn't until today that she brought Adrian along to inspect the results of my treatment. She looked at me as if I were a worthless piece of trash.

She thought a month of electroshock therapy, solitary confinement, and drug injections would be enough to make me kneel before Adrian and beg for forgiveness. She also thought that as long as she held our daughter, Delilah Vale, over my head, I'd grovel at her feet begging for mercy.

But what she didn't know, and this was something she would never know, was that a month ago, when she heartlessly ordered her men to drag me into the ambulance bound for the mental institution, my five-year-old daughter, Delilah, had run out barefoot after it, crying out, "Daddy!"

The rain had been pouring so hard that night that I could barely hear Delilah's cries. I pressed myself against the rear window of the ambulance, pounding desperately on the glass and begging them with everything I had to stop.

Then, right there at an intersection, right before my eyes, a massive truck suddenly careened out of control and mercilessly ran over the tiny figure in the pink nightdress. Bright red blood mixed with the cold rain began spreading across the pavement beneath the stark white streetlights.

The love I once had for Serena, the love that had lain humbled in the dust, was crushed to pieces alongside Delilah on that night of blood and carnage.

There was no greater sorrow than a heart that had already died. With no more tears left to cry, I closed my dried, exhausted eyes.

I thought, "This is the end for us, Serena Seacrest."

Damian's POVAfter the performance, I exited from the back entrance of the Valedon Grand Theater. Fine snow was still drifting down from the sky.I draped a cashmere coat over my shoulders, my arm linked with Vivian Hart's, as we made our way toward the black sedan waiting by the curb."Damian!"Serena, soaked through and utterly bedraggled, came charging forward. The bodyguards immediately stepped forward to stop her, but she ignored him. With a heavy thud, she dropped to her knees in the icy water right in front of me. "Damian, I finally found you..."Sobbing uncontrollably, she fumbled with trembling hands and pulled out the filthy pink bunny from inside her coat and held it high."Look, I found Lila's bunny. I know I was wrong. I know I was so wrong! I killed Adrian—I avenged Lila! Please, just give me one more chance. Will you please come home with me?"Like a child who had done something wrong, Serena begged desperately in the freezing snow. But faced with this extreme

After Adrian's death, Serena dismissed all the servants in the mansion, resigned from her position as CEO of Seacrest Corporation, and sold off most of her assets. Like a wretched wanderer, she carried a simple rucksack, clutching the cloth bundle of bloodied mud and the pink bunny to her chest, and embarked on a life of wandering the world in search of Damian. She went to every city Damian had ever mentioned, walking down every street. She grew gaunt and haggard, her hair disheveled, the refined beauty she had once possessed completely gone. She would approach strangers with Damian's photograph in hand and ask, "Have you seen my husband? He's angry with me and hiding from me."Passersby only took her for a madwoman and hurried to avoid her.…Three years. More than a thousand days and nights. Serena's soul was completely hollowed out by endless remorse and the futile search. Then, in the winter of the third year, heavy snow fell over the streets of Valedon.Serena, weakened b

Serena had completely turned into a monster. She didn't hand Adrian over to the police, as she decided that a bullet or a few decades behind bars would have been far too easy for him.She used every resource of Seacrest Corp. to suppress the scandal from the engagement party. Then, she personally dragged the barely conscious Adrian back to the mental institution where Damian had once been held.In the cold, damp corridor, Adrian's shrill, desperate pleas for mercy echoed. "Serena, I was wrong! For the sake of what we once had, please forgive me! I'll do whatever you say from now on. I'll devote myself to you! "Serena stared at him expressionlessly, her eyes more sinister than a demon from the depths of hell. She kicked Adrian into the very ward where Damian had once been locked in."Strap him down," Serena ordered coldly.Rough restraints clamped tightly around Adrian's wrists and ankles, securing him spread-eagled to the cold iron bed.Serena turned toward the director of the

Staring at the cremation certificate in her hand, stamped with that glaring red official seal, memories suddenly flashed through Serena's mind. She remembered the cheap white porcelain urn Damian had clutched so desperately against his chest half a month ago.She remembered how she had sneered, snatched it from him, and smashed it into the garden outside. And she also remembered Damian on his knees in the mud, his fingers bleeding as he frantically scooped and gathered frantically from the mud.So it turned out she had personally dumped her own daughter's ashes into the filthy mud. She had even stood over the devastated Damian and mocked him for putting on an act over a broken urn."Ahh!" A heart-wrenching scream escaped Serena, and her eyes instantly turned bloodshot as fine red veins appeared at the corners of her eyes."Serena! Hear me out!" Adrian, seeing his cover blown, went deathly pale and dropped weakly to his knees on the stage. He reached out to grab the hem of Serena

The moment the screen lit up, all that could be heard was an unsettling hiss of static.A high-definition surveillance recording of a street intersection appeared on the giant screen. The timestamp in the upper-right corner showed, unmistakably, the night Damian had been forcibly dragged into the mental hospital ambulance. The smiles on the guests' faces froze, and the entire ballroom fell deathly silent. The footage showed rain pouring down in torrents that night. Behind the ambulance, a little girl in a pink nightgown was running barefoot after it, crying and screaming desperately at the top of her lungs, "Daddy! Daddy, don't go..."That was five-year-old Delilah.Serena's pupils constricted sharply, and her breath caught in her throat. Then, the surveillance footage zoomed in, clearly capturing a man standing in the shadows at a corner of the street. It was Adrian, who had a black umbrella in his hands. In the footage, Adrian wore a chilling, sinister smile. He slowly walked

Third-Person POV When Serena heard Naomi's words, she suppressed the intense unease rising in her chest and let out a cold laugh. "Don't bother looking. Damian has always lived off me. With nothing to his name, where could he possibly go?"She picked up her coffee and took a sip, utterly convinced that Damian couldn't survive without her. "Give it three days at most. He'll be starving out there and come crawling back to apologize on his own."But the days passed, one after another. Eventually, half a month went by, and there was still no word from Damian.Serena's temper grew increasingly volatile. On the top floor of Seacrest Corporation, the office was filled with suffocating tension every single day."You still haven't found him yet? What the hell are you useless fools good for?" Serena hurled the report in her hand straight at Naomi.Naomi barely dared to breathe, trembling as she lowered her head. "Ms. Seacrest, there's been no activity on any of Mr. Vale's bank cards. We
