4. Not Trying To Die

Grimm was already there. He had seen that everything was going the way Lucifer told him it would. As the car ran dead smack into the 2005 silver Nissan Altima, he seen Mila’s body fly from the front window. He watched her body fly onto the wet road in front of the other car they had hit.

“Perfect timing.” Grimm said to himself.

He got up from the rail that was connected to the side of the back road and pulled out a metal pipe from his back pocket. When he pulled it to the front of him, the pipe instantly transformed to his weapon, the scythe. He decided to go to the closest to him, which was Mila’s friends, Brenda and the guy. He descended over to the car and opened the passenger door. Before he removed the soul that was floating around her body, he took out the golden container that Lucifer had given to him before he came to this place. He opened it up and turned his attention to the soul.

He touched the soul with the sharp tip of his scythe, which removed the soul from the body it was connected to. When he put the soul into the container, a frown came upon his face when he realized he wasn’t alone.

“Hello, Gabriel.” He said, feeling his brother’s presence behind him.

“I see you still collecting souls.” Gabriel said, standing behind him as he looked around at the crash site.

“You know it.  What are you doing? Still following behind our beautiful Lord and Savior?”

“I’d rather follow him then the Lord of Lies.”

After Grimm collected the two souls from the car Mila was in, he turned around to face his brother. He was trying to figure out why his brother would come to him, knowing he was working. As he walked over to the other that had souls for him to collect as well, he realized his brother was following him.

“Why are you here, Gabriel?” Grimm asked, looking at his brother with irritation. “You know I am working?”

“Yes, I understand. You pick up souls for a living.”

Grimm chuckled as he opened the car door to retrieve the souls from within the car.

“You know I miss my brother on my side.” Gabriel said, a little bit of sadness filled his eyes. “Why can’t we go back to what it was?”

“You know why? Our mutual Father doesn’t want me up there.”

    “That’s not true at all.”

Grimm huffed before going back to his job. As he was retrieving the souls and putting them in the container, he heard of what sounded like a cough. He looked around, wondering what it was coming from, he closed the door and turned his attention back to Gabriel. The look his brother had on his fath let him know he knew something. That’s when he turned his attention to the last body on the ground, Mila. As he walked over to her, Gabriel had to stop him.

“Move Gabriel.” Grimm growled at his brother. “You know better than to block me off of my job.”

“You can’t touch her.” Gabriel said. “Father wants her with him. She’s the reason I am here.”

Looking at him with a smirk, Grimm tried to walk around him, but once more he was intercepted. This shit his brother was doing was really irritating. All he was trying to do was finish the job Lucifer had sent him there to do, but he couldn’t do it if he was getting disturbed by his other half.

“Gabriel, you need to move the fuck out of my way.” Grimm growled at his brother.

“You would really ignore our father’s instructions, Thanatos? How low have you become, brother?”

Walking around him, Grimm made his way over to Mila only to stop when he hears a cough coming from her. She was alive? How could this be? This was not supposed to happen. Grimm reached down and flipped Mila’s body over. Boy, was she a mess. The blood on her face, that she had gotten from hitting her head on the ground, was dripping down from the rain it was combining itself with. Her breathing was heavy because of the fractured rib cage caused by the hard cement she now laid on.

“She wasn’t supposed to live.” Grimm said to himself.

“God wants her with him.” Gabriel told his brother as he walked over to his side. “Let that happen.”

“Fuck you, Gabriel!” Grimm snapped at his brother, glaring at him with so much anger in his eyes. “I’m not doing shit for him after he cast me out of fucking Heaven with Lucifer!”

“You made bad calls and you sided with Lucifer on his bad choices. I would’ve cast you out as well.”

Grimm huffed before turning his attention to Mila. As he continued to stare at her, Mila’s eyes finally opened. She seen the guy from the party and another person dressed in white next to him. When she seen the scythe the guy’s hand, her mind immediately clicked on who the hell he was.

“Grimm.” She whispered his name.

Grimm smiled at her and she slowly shook her head. She didn’t want to die because she knew where she was headed. Even being a Christian, tonight she made the biggest mistake by drinking and her, including her friends, were paying the price.

“Where are my friends?” She asked in the softest voice possible.

“They’re dead.” Grimm told her.

He watched as a tear fell down her cheek. The other guy kneeled down next to Grimm, staring at Mila. She didn’t know who he was, but recognizing Grimm, she knew this guy was one of the Lord’s Archangels.

“I.. Don’t want to die.” Mila whimpered.

“Sorry, sweetheart.” Grimm told her. “I would love to help you out with that, but I have a job to do.”

Grimm stood up and tried to press his scythe against Mila, but of course, his brother interfered once more. Groaning, he turned his attention to his brother.

“Grimm, think before you do this.” Gabriel told him as he stood up in between him and Mila. “You will cause a problem between the Lord and you. Are you sure about this?”

“I already told you how I felt.” Grimm said, pressing his scythe against his brother’s arm, trying to push him to the side. “Now, move before we have problems.”

“Please don’t.” Mila’s breath still heavy.

“You don’t talk to me.” Grimm told her. “This could’ve all been avoided if you stayed your ass at the house.”

Mila didn’t say anything because he was right. She should’ve kept her foot down when her two friends wanted to go out. Now, they are dead and she feels responsible.

“It’s not your fault.” Gabriel told her. “Don’t doubt yourself.”

“I want to live.” She told him, closing her eyes.

“Unfortunately, you don’t get to make a choice.” Grimm said with annoyance in his voice.

“She can come with me.” Gabriel suggested.

“Fuck no and fuck you. I’m bringing her to Lucifer like I planned from the beginning. You can take your ass back to Heaven where you came from. You wasn’t wanted here in the first place.”

Mila listened to the two men argue over her. She couldn’t understand what was so important about her, but they wanted her soul. But, how could she make a deal with Death himself? What would keep him from killing her? What about the Angel guy that? What did he want from her? Mila opened her eyes and cleared her throat, causing the men to turn back to her.

“What about a deal?” She asked them.
