Damien’s pov;

I knew I should have walked out of that room.

Every part of me that was trained to survive told me that leaving was the only right thing to do. I needed to give her space. I needed to let the truth settle without my presence making everything feel even more heavy. I had already taken so much from her life…. her past, her safety, her freedom. I didn't want to take any more.

I turned toward the door, even though my heart was screaming at me to stay.

“Sera,” I said, trying to keep my voice from shaking. “I’ll give you some time.”

My hand was right on the door handle.

“Damien.”

The way she said my name made me stop in my tracks.

She didn't sound scared or fragile. She sounded sure of herself, like she had made a choice and needed me to know what it was.

I turned around slowly.

She was standing there, her bare feet on the cold floor, wearing one of my shirts that was way too big for her. The light from the lamp made her hair glow and traced the soft lines of her face. She loo

POV: Third PersonSilas didn’t need a phone call or a frantic report to know that things had gone sideways. He felt it in the heavy, awkward silence that filled the room. He saw it in the way his guards wouldn’t look him in the eye, shifting their weight like kids waiting for a parent to find a broken window. In his world, the "Black Tide" world, everything ran like a high-end watch. When a second hand skipped, or a gear ground to a halt, it wasn't a glitch. It was a disaster.Silas stood in his command center. Blue light from dozens of monitors washed over his pale face. The air was thick with the smell of static and the faint, bitter scent of burnt wires.“Play the video again,” Silas said. His voice was terrifyingly calm.Nobody moved. The air in the room seemed to freeze. He turned his head slowly, his eyes locking onto the young man sitting at the main computer. “I said,” Silas repeated, dropping his voice to a whisper that carried more weight than a scream, “play it again.”The

  • The Debt Collectors Bride   Chapter 87

POV: Sera I didn't stop to catch my breath. The moment I stepped through the mansion doors, I went straight to the operations room. My heart was pounding, not with fear, but with a cold, sharp focus. I bypassed the main desk, slipped into the dark digital hub, and locked the door behind me. I sat at the primary terminal. The screens glowed, casting blue light over my face. Damien was still out there with that man, the one with the scarred face and the hollow eyes. I still didn’t know his name or why he looked so haunted, but I knew they were heading into a nightmare. I pulled up the data I’d snatched at the warehouse: the tire tracks, the encrypted relay signals, and the map of the industrial district. "Think, Sera," I whispered to the empty room. "See what they're missing." I pulled up Damien’s tactical plan, the one he thought I hadn't seen. He and the mystery man were moving toward a central loading corridor. It was the most logical path, the fastest way to get to where the

  • The Debt Collectors Bride   Chapter 86

POV: Damien Marrow stopped walking before we ran out of ground. He planted his feet and refused to take another step toward the low, rusted warehouse. He looked like a man staring at his own grave. I knew that look, it was the kind of fear that came from a memory. “I’m not going inside,” he said, his voice flat. “Anywhere but inside.” I didn't argue. I knew Silas used places like this to break people. I started to move toward the door alone, but then I stopped. My skin prickled. There was a shadow moving near the side of the building. Someone was already here. I drew my weapon, my heart turning to ice. If Silas had men here, I’d burn this whole block down to get out. I rounded the corner, ready to fire… and then I froze. It was Sera. She was standing in the shadows, her phone in her hand, her eyes wide and sharp. She looked like she had been documenting the tire tracks and the locks. She looked like a soldier. “Sera?” I breathed her name, the fear for her life nearly choking

  • The Debt Collectors Bride   Chapter 85

POV: Sera I knew what was happening before anyone said a word. Damien was planning something. And he was leaving me out of it. I stood by my window and watched the courtyard. Everything looked normal, but that was the problem. When danger is out in the open, you can see it. When Damien hides it from me, it becomes invisible, and that makes it a hundred times scarier. I pressed my hand against the cool glass and tried to stay calm. He was doing it again. He thought he was protecting me. It wasn't that he didn't trust me; it was something deeper than that. It was an instinct. Damien believed that loving someone means standing in front of the bullet. He thinks he has to keep you blind so you don't get scared, even if it means you can't see the person pulling the trigger. I took a slow breath. Not this time. I turned away from the window and walked across the room. My steps were quiet but certain. I didn't call for help or ask anyone for permission. I had spent weeks learning the

  • The Debt Collectors Bride   Chapter 84

POV: DamienI arrived exactly three minutes late.I didn't do it because I was messy or because I miscalculated or got lost. I did it because I knew Silas hated waiting. I wanted him to feel that tiny bit of frustration before he even saw my face. The old transit station looked like a skeleton picked clean by the salt and the wind. Big concrete ribs stood open to the air, and rusted train tracks cut through the cracked stone. The ocean breathed heavily just a few feet away. Silas called this "neutral ground."There is no such thing. Every corner of this place belonged to someone who wanted me dead.I got out of the car alone.I didn't show any weapons. I didn't bring a line of guards. I didn't have an army backing me up. It was just me, my boots hitting the concrete with a loud thud that echoed through the empty space. I could feel a hundred sets of eyes on me… hiding on rooftops, behind broken windows, and tucked into shadows. I heard the tiny hum of cameras. I saw drones flying so h

  • The Debt Collectors Bride   Chapter 83

POV: Third PersonSilas didn’t rush traps. He built them like a piece of art.The news went out at dawn. It was sent through secret channels that were supposed to be private, which meant they were actually the fastest way to spread a rumor. It started as a whisper, then it grew into a roar that reached everyone who mattered in the city.Black Tide was offering a trade. It was clean and public. And it was a dare. Silas was promising to hand over Gideon Hale… alive. The meeting spot was an old, abandoned transit station on the coast. It was a place made of crumbling concrete and rusted metal, sitting right between the city and the ocean. Silas called it "neutral ground," but in their world, there was no such thing. Every inch of that station was a potential grave. The message had rules, of course. Silas didn't want any police, any big armies, or any surprises. He wanted Damien Vescari to come in person. He wanted him to come alone. If Damien followed the rules, Gideon would walk free.S
