LOGINHis phone vibrated in his pocket. He pulled back to look at the screen that displayed Father.
He pressed his phone to his ear and didn't speak for a while. He only signaled to the driver to pull over. The car screeched as it slowed down and it came to a stop.
Nikolai stepped out of the car. That was when I finally exhaled.
He leaned back into the doorway.
“Baby, I'll be back soon.” he said with a smile and turned to the driver.
“Take her home, give her whatever she asks for.”
A car suddenly slowed down and blocked the view ahead of us.
Nikolai kept walking forward to the car ahead of us till he climbed inside, the driver twisted the key and the car began to hum.
When we arrived at the mansion, it was much bigger than I expected.
The driver stepped out of the car, walked around to my side and pulled the door open. I stepped on small pieces of gravel on the ground.
This is my life now. I scanned the environment till I got distracted.
“Ma, come in,” a guard gestured towards the door.
He led me through the large living room, we walked past different rooms till we reached the master's bedroom. If Nikolai learned the truth, he could kill me.
“Leave,” I ordered the guard.
He bowed and retreated, I pushed the door shut, twisted the key and secured it.
I grabbed the thin veil on my head and threw it off. I needed to shower before he came back. My feet moved quickly across the floor as I rushed into the bathroom, desperate for the hot water to touch my skin.
I reached for the handle and twisted it, the water hit my face and I scrubbed my back until it turned red.
I grabbed the towel, wrapped it around my chest and stepped out of the bathroom.
I took slow steps across the room, eyes lowered, the edge of the bed coming closer and closer until my knees gently touched the mattress.
The wardrobe caught my attention, I headed straight for it. I slowly opened it, a red silk night dress hung there, I picked it up and slipped into the soft fabric.
I turned to the mirror, I saw my reflection. I tapped my pocket for my phone, I remembered it fell in the car when Nikolai wanted to remove my veil, my heart started racing faster.
“What will I do?” I bit my lower lip.
“I need to get my phone.” I muttered.
I grabbed the veil to pin it back on my hair, I quickly stepped out of the room, turned to look left and right. It was empty, I quietly walked down the stairs to walk past the large living room.
My eyes caught the red car, he used to bring me home, the bushes brushed against my legs as I hurried forward to the car. I pulled the handle.
Locked.
I folded my fingers together and kicked the tire, the sound attracted other guards in the garden. My thoughts felt messy, so I hurried into an unknown quiet room and closed the door behind me.
The room was so dark, I could barely see the floor. I struggled for a switch, and my foot hit a metal object and I tripped. My head slowly banged on the wall, light blinked.
“Help me,” she whispered.
I stayed still on the floor.
“Who are you?” I demanded.
Her voice came again but this time it was weak.
“Help, help me”
A sudden flash split the sky, and a deep boom shook the window.
The bulb light finally became stable and I could see her face in the dark.
I scanned her body
“Why are you tied up?”
“How did you end up here?”
She didn't talk, instead she lowered her head.
I held her shoulder firm.
“At least tell me your name.”
She slowly parted her lips
“Hannah.”
“Hannah?” I asked.
“Open the door. Quick,” a strange voice said. Footsteps approached our direction and I quickly hid in the other room.
The door slid open quietly, two men pushed inward brushing rain from their jackets.
“Why didn't you turn off the light?” The first man barked.
“I did,”
“Stop lying, you left her mouth uncovered too.” The first man raised his hand, two more men entered, a tall figure followed them, I knew that dark figure. Nikolai.
I leaned against the cold wall to stay upright, Nikolai's hand slipped inside his coat and came back holding a weapon.
He pressed the cold weapon against Hannah's forehead.
“Who sent you?” His cold voice filled the room.
Hannah stared at the wall without saying any word.
“I won't repeat myself, who sent you?”
“Just click it,” she spat out.
“Fine.” The sound of the gun echoed through the room and she collapsed.
The sound jumped into my chest, and my body suddenly moved.
I hit my hand over my mouth to hold back a scream. My elbow suddenly hit a metal mop that leaned against the crates.
The mop crashed across the concrete floor. The sound filled the room.
Nikolai turned to my corner, the gun was still smoking, I held my breath.
"Did he see me?" I muttered.
I followed him down the hallway. My feet echoed on the tiles as I spotted the door to the ward.I took a deep breath. The blood would flow from my arms to hers. This was the choice I made. I felt a cold shiver. He stopped at the entrance to the doctor's office then turned to me.“Make sure you do exactly what you are told.” He held my shoulder and squeezed it a little before letting go.I twisted the handle and pushed the door inward. The doctor sat on a chair and brought out a long file from the drawer.“Excuse me.” I stepped in.He looked up and scanned my body. “Who are you?” He said sharply as he adjusted his glasses.“Have your seat.” He pointed at the chair opposite the table. I moved it and sat down.He pushed the file to the drawer, and held his hands together.“You are…..?” He looked at me.“Mrs Romano.” I turned to look at my husband, standing outside the office. “Mrs Romano, I'm so sorry for keeping you waiting. You are here to donate. You will follow me so I can run so
My husband quietly held my wrist. His skin felt warm against my cold skin. I didn't speak but I searched his eyes.“Lily needs you.” He looked at me.My heartbeat raced, a strange unease settling in my chest. The name Lily echoed in my head.“We were on our way home and we bumped into an accident. The doctor said she needed blood because she lost a lot of blood in the accident.”I remained silent and he continued.“There isn't a matching blood type for her in the hospital currently so he asked if there is someone that can donate for her. Yulia… donate your blood. We need to save her.” “How did you know I'm a perfect match for her?” “I asked my men to do a background check on you.”My eyes slowly widened.“So you were with her.” I pulled my wrist back and my voice began to rise.“Just donate the blood we are losing her.” His voice became louder than mine and suddenly dropped.“Please, do this for me. Lily needs you.” He held my hands tight and I couldn't resist.“Where is she?” I swa
I pushed his chest away, with all the strength I had in me. His head hit the porcelain. The door banged behind me as I ran out, my heels clicking rapidly on the floor. My shoulder hit a guest walking toward me, I bent down to pick up my purse without looking up. Nikolai stood with the guest. He turned to look at me, quickly signaled to one of the waiters and passed him the glass. He walked toward me and grabbed my wrist. His hands felt like iron, he stared into my eyes, scanning left and right, he said nothing. He then turned to the crowd. The waiter stood in front. He took a fresh spoon and a glass cup. He tapped the rim three times. The ringing sound cut through the room. Heads turned to our direction.Silence fell. I lowered my head and my skin felt hot under the stage lights.“I apologize for the interruption.” My husband said, bowing his head.“I appreciate your presence. Y'all stand for me and my wife.” He slowly turned his head to look at me, I softly curved my lips. “My wif
I threw my body through the opened window. The cold air touched my skin, as my legs hit a narrow edge. The hit sent a sharp pain up my back.I pressed my palms against the cold wall and forced my breath to stay quiet.Inside the room, Nikolai stumbled into the room, struggling to keep his balance. He looked under the table, his eyes landed on the mop that fell earlier. He quickly turned to check the wardrobe and he ran his eyes across the room. There was nothing. He turned his face away from the window. My muscles shook as my legs held onto two bricks.I looked down, two guards walked back and forth slowly in the garden. I could see their shadows on the grass. One look up would end my life.I waited. The room finally became silent, then noticed Nikolai was gone.My nails scratched against the rough wall as I held on tightly and dragged myself along the flat edge.I reached the master's bedroom, grabbed the window frame, cl

A bitter chemical smell filled my lungs before I could open my eyes. My throat felt like it was lined with glass, something cold pressed against the back of my hand.A sharp pain suddenly hurt behind my eyes. I forced them open against the harsh white light. Dominic sat on the wooden chair near the bed. He stared at the wall as he gently rested his elbow on his knee. The pride he usually carried in his shoulders had vanished. His hands began to shake but he rubbed his hands together. The sheet rustled as I shifted slightly. Dominic turned towards me. His eyes widened for a second, and he gripped the edge of the bed.“How did you feel?” His voice sounded thin. He didn't look at my forehead where the bandage sat, instead he looked at my hands.“I'm fine,” I lied.My hand twitched under the blanke. I wanted to hold his hand but I kept my hands at my side. Elena's voice echoed in my head.“You stole my life.” Her voice wouldn't leav
