"You are seriously going to Frank’s house?" Pamela’s voice sliced through the soft music playing in the background. She was sprawled on my bed, scrolling through her phone, but I could feel her eyes on me. I adjusted the strap of my baby-blue dress, giving my reflection a glance. "Yes." I said, applying one final coat of lip gloss. "We have been texting for weeks, Pam. Besides, you are the one who’s been pushing me to get out again, so this is me... getting out." "I said go for drinks, not go to some stranger’s penthouse, for date." She huffed, sitting up. "You don’t even know this guy." I turned to her, arching a brow. "I think I know enough. He’s funny, charming, doesn’t send unsolicited dick pics, and actually remembers things I say. That's more than I can say for half the guys you have dated." I didn't mean to be rude but it's the truth. "Ouch." She tossed a pillow at me. I caught it mid-air and laughed. "Relax, I will drop my location as soon as I get there. I am not stupid." Pamela sighed, dramatic as always. "Just don’t drink too much or at all and text me every hour, I am setting a timer." She said while doing something on her phone. "Yes, Mom." I teased. I slipped into my heels, grabbed my clutch, and gave myself a final once-over and the mirror didn’t lie, I looked good. Heartbreak had carved hollows under my eyes, but I was still standing, still glowing even without Kelvin, especially without Kelvin. Once ready, I stepped out and Frank’s driver was already waiting. Black suit, silent nod, shiny Mercedes. It felt like I was stepping into a scene from a billionaire romance novel. I got into the car and he drove off immediately and thankfully, his house was just about twenty minutes away, so it was long before we arrived. The house... no, the mansion, was nestled in a quiet part of town I didn’t even know existed because I don't go out much. Iron gates, tall hedges, and walls that whispered money. When we pulled into the driveway, my jaw didn’t drop, but it tightened. I had suspected Frank was rich but this was next level. A butler greeted me, an actual butler. He led me into a warmly lit dining room where a long glass table had been set with silver cutlery, white roses, and enough candlelight to film a proposal scene. And then, Frank showed up. Handsome in an effortless kind of way, he wore a navy silk shirt unbuttoned just enough to be suggestive, his smile was lazy, like he owned time itself. "Sally." He said, pulling out my chair. "You look even better in person." "So do you." I complimented as well as I settled into the seat, even though something about the whole setup tickled the back of my mind. Dinner was delicious, steak that melted on the tongue with creamy truffle pasta and French wine I recognized from my late father’s collection. It felt like being seen again, admired and wanted. After the chef cleared the plates and disappeared with a respectful nod, we drifted to the living room. Plush couches, warm lighting and some old movie playing in the background. Frank handed me another glass of wine. "To new beginnings." He said. I raised my glass and smiled while making eye contact. "To new beginnings." I didn't know what new beginning entailed with Frank but I wanted it, after everything that happened with Kelvin, I needed a fresh start and if frank could offer me that, then I was in. We clinked, we drank, we laughed, then he moved closer. At first, it was innocent, a touch on my knee, a brush of fingers against my collarbone. I smiled, leaned into him a little but when his hand slid higher, too high, I pulled back. "Frank." I said gently. "Slow down." He didn’t listen, instead his lips found mine. His hand slipped behind my neck, the wineglass dropped from my hand and hit the carpet with a soft thud. We kissed, hot and urgent but then his hands roamed again, possessive now and hungry. I pushed him back. "I said, slow down." He blinked and then grinned. "You are such a tease." I don't understand, was he expecting me to just jump in bed with him? I stood up angrily, heart pounding. That grin, it wasn’t charming anymore, it was cruel and it scared me. "Frank..." I stopped as my head spun, the floor swayed beneath me like I was on a boat. "I... I feel dizzy." He stood up as well, stalking slowly toward me. I backed away as my hands flew to my locket instinctively, I tend to do that a lot whenever I was nervous or scared and in this case, both. I backed away from him as he moved closer but the dizziness made it hard. "What did you do?" Frank’s eyes glittered. "Relax, once the pills kick in, you will be begging for it." My stomach twisted at the realization. "You drugged me?" My voice cracked. He laughed. "Come on, sweetheart. It’s not like you weren’t already into it." He reached for me again, but I slapped his hand away. "Don’t touch me." "Oh please." He said casually, voice darkening. "You think you are better than this? I have seen your texts. I know what you want." I stumbled backward, my legs weren’t cooperating. I grabbed my clutch, praying my phone was still inside as he made a move to touch me again. "I said don’t touch me!" I screamed in his face. He grabbed my arm and pulled me closer, my head spun as I panicked and shoved him with everything I had. I watched wide eyes as Frank stumbled, his foot caught on the edge of the coffee table, he slipped and his head collided with the sharp corner of the marble step behind the couch. I head a crack and then... silence. Blood pooled beneath him, I froze for a long, awful second, I just stood there, holding my locket like it was going to save me from the mess I just created. I blinked at his unmoving body before I realized what I just did. "Oh shit." I dropped to my knees. "Frank?" I whispered, reaching out with trembling fingers. "Frank..." No pulse, no breath... He was dead. Oh my God. "I killed someone." I whispered as I backed away from his body. "I am a murderer." Panic surged through me like wildfire. I had to get out before someone found me, before they thought I... I turned to run but the room tilted and my knees gave out... The last thing I remembered was falling... falling backward, and the cold, sharp crack of my head hitting the floor. Then darkness.SALLY’S POV“An egg?”I blinked in disbelief, my voice cracking from the build up of rage and confusion tearing through my chest. "Are you fucking kidding me?"There it was, glowing softly under the room’s dim light, resting innocently inside the chest that had been locked away for God knows how many years."You did all this… set me up for murder, forced Kelvin to betray me, manipulated my life like a puppet master... just for a damn egg?"That finally pulled his gaze from the chest. He lifted his head, his eyes darker than I had ever seen them."Point of correction, Princess." He said coldly, his voice deeper, almost unnatural, odd and unfamiliar. "That is not just an egg, it’s deeper than you could ever understand."I let out a short, bitter laugh. "So, you ruined my life. Played me, controlled me, and stole my father’s key, one he obviously never wanted you to have, and now you want me to just accept that this egg is so important? And let you get away with this?”He smiled slowly,
SALLY’S POVI sat there for a full minute, half-naked in a room scented with candles and betrayal, before I finally moved.I couldn't believe he left me like that, used me, took my father’s key and walked out of the dining room like I was nothing more than a pawn that had finally served her purpose.Shame clung to my skin like fire, hotter than the lingerie I still wore. I grabbed my robe, wrapped it tightly around me, and stormed back to my room. My pulse throbbed in my ears, my father had given me that necklace on my eighteenth birthday, he never mentioned a key or explained what it was for and I never questioned him. I wore it daily, thinking it was a sentimental gift, a memory, a connection. And yet, Doom had been after it all along. He kept me here, played hero, made me fall deeper, made me hope and all this time, it was just about the key.I changed quickly, jeans, black top, sneakers and slipped the pistol he gave me into the back waistband of my jeans. I needed to breathe, I n
DOOM’S POVMy shoulder still throbbed like a bastard, but I refused to let it show.I swapped my usual suits for a simple black shirt and a pair of tailored shorts, unbuttoned just enough to tease. It was warm tonight, and Sally liked casual Doom, something about seeing the devil without armor made her smile, maybe because it made her feel closer. The dining room lights were dimmed low, casting a golden warmth across the mahogany table. Candlelight flickered beside the fine china, and soft instrumental jazz hummed from the walls. I had told the staff to stay far away, tonight was ours.I poured the wine, her favourite, Amarone della Valpolicella, and positioned her favourite meal across from me. Creamy lobster risotto with garlic butter asparagus, truffle oil, and a touch of lemon zest. She had once raved about it during one of our late-night conversations, the kind of detail I stored away like treasure.I heard her coming before I saw her, the soft whisper of silk brushing against he
SALLY’S POVTwo days, it had been two whole days since that night of blood and gunfire, since I watched Dante... Doom, drop to the ground with a bullet in his shoulder because of me, because I couldn’t protect myself, because I froze.I had never known fear like that, not when I lost my dad, not when I found out Kelvin was cheating and not even when I heard my so-called best friend getting railed beside me while plotting my downfall but that moment, watching blood pour out of him… it wrecked me.I sat by his side like a guard dog ever since. If anyone wanted to hurt him again, they would have to go through me first. I would tear flesh with my bare hands, claw through bone if I had to because Dante bled for me.Now, I would do anything for him.He groaned from the bed behind me."Stop fussing, princess. I am fine.""No, you are not." I snapped, fluffing the pillow behind his back like it had personally offended me. "You took a bullet, Dante. You are not fine, sit your ass down and let
DOOM’S POVI adjusted the collar on my shirt, black silk stretched over muscle, the sleeves rolled just enough to show the serpent tattoo that curled down my forearm. The night was dressed in silence, only the low hum of the estate’s security system breaking through. My Glock rested on the desk beside me, fully loaded, because no good date ever started without a gun nearby... That's just my opinion.I wasn’t a romantic guy, far from it but for Sally, I would pretend to be. She deserved one quiet night.I turned toward the door, expecting her, instead, Victor walked in... He didn’t speak, didn’t need to. His expression said everything.I cocked a brow. "Say it before I lose interest.""I assume you are telling her tonight." He said."About?" I asked, my voice as bored as it was lethal.Victor met my gaze. "About what you really want from her."I chuckled, deep and dry. "Hell no, why would you assume that?" I asked curiously."You promised to hand her Kelvin and Pam." He said. "You are
SALLY’S POVThe warmth of his chest made me feel safe, too safe. Dante’s arms around me were a shield I hadn’t realized I had needed until I had them again. I was fed, bathed, wrapped in his scent, and finally, I was beginning to relax when his deep voice shattered my peace."Get dressed."I blinked, while still curled against him. "What?"He leaned back, just enough for our eyes to meet. The softness from earlier? Gone, and all that remained was cold steel and command."I said get dressed, we are going to train."I let out a weak laugh, but he didn’t. "It’s almost midnight." I pointed out."And?""And I am exhausted."Dante stood up and stalked toward the closet, tossing a pair of training clothes on the bed. "You don’t get to rest until I am sure you can kill with one hand and fuck with the other."I choked. "That’s not a real thing.""It is in my world."He turned back to face me, eyes blazing. "You want to get your revenge? Then you train. You want to stand beside me as my queen?
