Victor’s POV

The rain was light when I stepped out of the car, but the scent of wet asphalt clung to the air like a warning. I didn’t bother with an umbrella, I let the drizzle touch me.

A king never hides from the weather or from his heirs.

The mansion loomed in the gray afternoon, every window a blind eye, concealing whatever truths lived inside.

My driver opened the trunk and pulled out a polished wooden box tied with a silver ribbon. Inside, a small set of gold rattles nestled in satin.

I took the box myself. It had weight. Not from the metal, but from what it meant.

The door opened before I knocked twice. Lila stood there, her apron neat, hair pinned as always, but her eyes were quick ,darting to the driveway, then to me. I smiled slowly. Fear had a scent. And she wore it like perfume.

"Mr. Zeus," she said, dipping her head. Her voice was steady, but the tightening at the corners of her mouth betrayed her.

"Lila," I replied, stepping inside without waiting for her to invite me

  • The Devil’s Bride   CHAPTER 49: Dead Flowers

POV: AlexanderThe month of August had rolled in with a heaviness I couldn’t explain. The morning sun was bright, clear, and warm, but inside the house, there was a silence so thick it clung to the walls.Breakfast had been served as usual, yet the atmosphere was strained. Megan sat at the far end of the dining table, her hands neatly folded on her lap before she slowly reached for her spoon. She didn’t look at me. Not once.Lila moved quietly between us, setting down plates, scrambled eggs, toast, slices of fruit but even she seemed uncomfortable. Her hands trembled slightly as she poured juice into Megan’s glass.“Thank you,” Megan muttered, her tone clipped.Lila nodded quickly and disappeared toward the kitchen.I watched Megan. She sat stiffly, her eyes fixed on the plate before her. A lock of her hair had fallen across her cheek, and normally, I might have brushed it back for her, but today there was distance. A wall she had built overnight.“You’re not eating,” I said finally,

  • The Devil’s Bride   CHAPTER 48: Locked In

POV: MeganThe house had changed. At first, it was subtle curtains pulled tighter, doors that clicked differently when shut, the faint echo of footsteps in the hallway at odd hours. Then the changes became harder to ignore. Windows that had once opened to let the evening breeze in were now sealed tight, no latch, no give. The front door, which I had walked through freely countless times, now bore a keypad I didn’t know the code to.I thought I was imagining it until the phone incident.I had picked up my phone one evening to call my best friend, to hear a friendly voice that reminded me of a world outside these walls. My fingers moved on autopilot, dialing the number I knew by heart. The ringing sounded but it didn’t connect. Only a dull, flat tone that ended in silence.I stared at the phone. Something was off. Too clean. Too perfect. Too unfamiliar. My messages were gone, my photos erased. My apps, my contacts, everything that made it mine were gone.I pressed the buttons frantica

  • The Devil’s Bride   CHAPTER 47: The Disappearing File

POV: MeganThe ride back from the doctor’s office was quiet, too quiet. My palms wouldn’t stop sweating against my thighs. The echo of the doctor’s questions still clung to me. Do you feel safe? Do you trust the people around you?I had lied, smiling faintly, nodding at all the right moments, because how could I explain that the walls of Alexander’s mansion seemed to breathe with secrets? How could I explain that my safety was a thin thread, easily snipped by a man who controlled every corner of my world? The house greeted me in its usual silence, yet it felt different. Heavy. Watchful.I went upstairs, pushing open the door to my room, and my eyes landed on the drawer where I had hidden everything: my goodbye letter, the gender test, the report I had stolen about Alexander’s ex-wife. I dropped my purse onto the bed and yanked the drawer open.Empty.Every nerve in me froze. I shoved the drawer fully out, as if the files might have slipped to the back. Nothing. I tore through the clos

  • The Devil’s Bride   CHAPTER 46: Smoldering Obsession

POV: RichardThe cold metal of the gate pressed against my knuckles as I gritted my teeth. “I told you, I’m going in!” I spat, voice sharp, almost shaking with fury. The security officer, broad-shouldered and unflinching, met my glare with practiced calm. “Sir, you’re not allowed past this point. Mr. Zeus gave strict instructions”“I don’t care about Zeus’s instructions!” I cut him off. “I’m her husband. I have every right”“You don’t.” The second guard stepped forward, hands casually resting near his holstered firearm. “Not today. Not ever. You stay on your side of the gate, or we’re calling backup.”I let out a harsh laugh, dragging my hands through my hair. “Backup? You think a bunch of kids in suits can stop me?”The first guard leaned closer, eyes cold steel. “I don’t care how big you think you are. You’re not crossing this line. Not tonight.”I slammed my hand against the gate again, the echo of metal on metal bouncing into the quiet night. “You don’t understand! She’s mine!”“S

  • The Devil’s Bride   CHAPTER 45: Two Heartbeats

POV: Megan“It hurts,” I gasped, clutching my stomach as another wave of pain rolled through me. The muscles in my abdomen tightened like a vice, and for a moment I couldn’t breathe. My vision blurred at the edges, and my knees threatened to give out.Alexander’s voice cut through the haze from somewhere near the doorway, sharp, controlled, but with an undercurrent of alarm he couldn’t quite mask. “Where?”“My stomach…lower… it keeps squeezing” I winced as another cramp knifed through me, my hand instinctively cradling the swell of my belly. He didn’t waste a heartbeat. “Security, keep Richard at the gate. No exceptions. If he tries to move, stop him by any means.”“Yes, sir,” came the faint, tinny reply from the intercom.Alexander strode in, each step measured but urgent, his eyes sweeping over me like he could diagnose every inch just by looking. His gaze lingered on my trembling hands and the way I hunched protectively over my stomach. “Can you walk?”I swallowed, forcing air in

  • The Devil’s Bride   CHAPTER 44: The Claim

POV: AlexanderI was halfway to the stairs when I saw him.Richard.Leaning against the iron gate like he owned the place, his black coat half-open, his hands in his pockets. Even from here, I could see that smug twist of his mouth.I didn’t bother calling out. I walked straight through the back door, my steps measured, the crunch of gravel under my shoes carrying across the quiet yard.“Alexander,” he greeted, voice low, as though we were old friends meeting by chance.“We’re not doing this at my house,” I said flatly. His smile widened. “That’s the thing—you don’t get to choose.”“You’ve got five seconds to tell me why you’re here before I put you back on the street you crawled from.”“Oh, I think you already know.” His eyes gleamed, lazy but sharp. “I came for her.”My jaw locked. “You’re not touching her.”“That’s funny,” he said, tilting his head. “Because the last time I checked, she wasn’t a piece of property for you to hoard.”“She’s not yours.”He stepped closer, stopping jus
