Chapter 16

"Come on, Doctor. Don't be dramatic." I roll my eyes drily at the nice doctor, "I'm pretty sure more pills will work magic until I get a donor."

The devoted cardiologist releases a heavy sigh, the skin on his forehead deeply crinkled. I suppose it's stress or early exposure to old age.

I hear a harsh sigh from the room and my eyes search until it falls on Romeo who leans with his hands on the windowsill. I am only privileged to view him from his side profile which doesn't hide his hardened jawline.

Shrugging with an air of indifference, I take a long slurp of the yogurt he got me from the hospital cafe, even though I would prefer to drink my spit than consume this shit that tastes like aspirin with a mixture of paracetamol and a pinch of sugar.

"You don't understand, Ms. Marrow," Doctor Perez shifts closer to the bedside, checking out the drip, "If you don't take precautions, things will spiral out of control before we get our hands on a donor. Don't you get it?"
