Chapter 1

Chapter One

“Maribell, get the fuck up!” Yelled a shrill voice, causing her to jump in surprise.

Maribell couldn’t imagine what it was that she could have done to aggravate her mother now but then again she knew that her very existence seemed to put her off. Maribell sighed and went down the stairs nervous to see what she needed. She softly tiptoed down the stairs and followed the sound of noise coming from the kitchen.

Maribell sighed when she saw  the mess that was the once spotless kitchen. She stood there wide eyed as she took in her mother’s skinny form. Her face had flour smeared here and there as she stood there at the kitchen counter. She had a mixing bowl in front of her and was vigorously mixing the ingredients together. Maribell sighed hopelessly when she saw her mother’s face.

“Who the hell do you think you are sleeping in like that?” She shrieked.

“I wasn’t sleeping in…” Maribell protested weekly. “I told you yesterday that I had to work a double at the diner.”

“I don’t want to hear it! Because of you and your laziness I’m covered in flour!” She yelled.

“I wasn’t being lazy… I was just-”

“Save it! I don’t know why I let you live here! I should have kicked your lazy ass out years ago! Why couldn’t you be more like your sister?” She yelled.

Maribell stood there looking down at the ground. She didn’t know what to say or why she even bothered trying to defend herself. She knew that her mother hated her but it still stung when she said it. Her mother was always comparing her and Marrisa. Maribell could be doing exactly as she was told and her mother would still tell her that Marrisa could do better even though she had never even so much as touched a broom.

“Are you even listening to me? Get over here and finish breakfast! I don’t have time to do this!” She shrieked at her.

Maribell sighed and stifled a yawn. She was exhausted but knew that this was a normal routine for them. She would get up early to make breakfast for the family while her mom and Marrisa slept in or did god knows what. Maribell honestly had no idea what  the two of them did all day and refused to even think about it. It would just frustrate her that she lived such a different life.

Maribell took over making breakfast while her mom went and did whatever it was that she did in the mornings. She had been surprised  to even see her up at this time. She quickly whipped up some pancakes with a blueberry reduction , scrambled eggs, toast, and fruit. She made some fresh coffee and set the table. Everyone was coming down to eat breakfast while she was busy cleaning up the mess her mother had made.

“I see the whore finally came home.” Marrisa sneered as she sipped her coffee.

“She claims that she worked a double but you can’t trust the words that come out of her mouth.” Her mother chirped as her stepdad laughed.

Maribell ignored them as they threw their barbed comments at her back. Instead she cleaned the kitchen and then went upstairs to finish changing out of her uniform. Her back ached and her feet hurt from waitressing all night at  the diner. She wanted nothing more than to fall into her bed and sleep before she had to go back to work but she still had a lot to do and knew that her mom, sister, and her new stepdad would take the opportunity to scream at her and hit her.

Maribell sighed and stripped out of her uniform. She went to the little bathroom cubicle that she had in her room and turned on the water. Her teeth chattered as she stepped into the cold shower. She quickly showered and dressed and ran back down the stairs.

Maribell glanced at the table and sighed tiredly. They had made a mess of the table. There was food and trash all over it. There was no food left over from breakfast so she would have to go hungry for the morning. She grabbed the trash can, sighing when she saw the leftover food laying on it, a rag, and some cleaner. While she was busy stacking the plates Marissa skipped down the stairs smirking when she saw her sister cleaning up the mess they had left behind.

“You missed a spot.” She said, standing behind her.

“What?” Maribell asked seconds before her head was slammed face first into the dishes causing them to break.

“Now look at what you did!” Her stepdad yelled, coming down the stairs.

Maribell groaned and tried to push herself up from the table. Before she could move her stepdad was standing behind her. He grabbed a handful of her wet blonde hair and turned her to face him. He glared down at her for a second before his fist connected with her cheek.

Maribell’s jaw slammed together and she could feel one of her teeth crack from the force. She groaned and blinked up at the angry man in front of her. Her legs trembled as her hands grasped at the table for something to hold on to. In her time living with this man she had learned a few things the hard way. You don’t talk. You don’t try to protect yourself and when he comes to see you at night you don’t deny him. Maribell had nearly perfected complying to the rules.

“Clean this shit up and then go get new dishware to replace what you broke!” He yelled, slamming his fist into her stomach twice before letting her fall to the ground.

Maribell’s empty stomach rolled as she laid there trying to catch her breath on the cold sticky tile floor.

“Marribell?” Matthew whispered, coming into the dinning room.

Maribell groaned and tried to sit up but her stomach rolled again. She took a few deep breaths trying to steady herself but her mouth began to fill with saliva as she felt the bile rising up in her throat. She grabbed the trash can and dry heaved into it. When she was done she noticed her youngest brother was standing beside her holding back her hair.

“Are you okay?” He asked, looking her over frowning as he noticed the blood trickling down her face and her cheek swelling.

“Yeah. You should go before you get in trouble.” She groaned.

“I tried to save you some food…” He whispered. “You’re getting too skinny. Why haven’t you left yet?”

“I can’t leave yet…” She whispered, looking at the young boy with sad eyes.

“Yes you can! They don’t treat us the way they do you.” He whispered. “Why won’t you leave?” He asked with tears in his eyes.

“I promise. I’m fine. We should get you to school.” She said, struggling to sit up.

So this is the second book to the series then right? Loved the first one even though the cliff hanger ending had me all upset wishing things for Margo and Kane could have been easier. Plus those poor kids being ripped away from Margo! Can't wait to see Bernard finally get his long awaited doom.

Chapter Two
After Maribell cleaned up her wounds and put on some makeup to cover the darkening bruise on her cheek she took Matthew to the bus stop and waited with him until it arrived. After that she went to the store and picked out a new dishware set. She sighed and carried her purchases back to the house. She frowned at the mess still on the table and floor. She set the dishware on the counter and set to cleaning off the table.  When she was done she went to the room and changed the bedding and grabbed the dirty laundry. Maribell started the dirty clothes and then finished cleaning the rooms and the bathrooms. She changed out the laundry and then went to clean the living room. She started making lunch for her mom, sister, and stepdad then went to fold the laundry. When she was done putting away the laundry she checked the time. She had enough time to grab three hours of sleep before they came home and she had to go to work.

Chapter Three
Margo was about to close out the recording when she heard a sudden scuffle. She paused when she  heard something slide back and thud against a wall followed by a gasp and the sound of struggling. She heard someone whimpering and frowned. “Don’t you ever talk about her again!” Bernard growled. “No one can satisfy me the way she can. When I’m inside you or anyone else I’m lucky I can even cum let alone get it up. The only difference between you and them is I usually kill them in a month or two.” More whimpers filled the room as she heard a sudden struggling noise. Margo’s brows furrowed as she listened wondering if she could be concerned about Abigail’s safety. More struggling followed by the sound of flesh striking flesh and then a moan filled her ears.

Chapter Four
Bernard sneered down at the woman whose violet eyes shined back at him with hatred and fear. He smirked as he saw the waring emotions. He wanted her to choose anger. It would be all the more fun when he decided to break her like he broke everyone else. He could smell the fear and anger rolling off of her in waves. He couldn’t help but smile giddily at her reaction to his proximity. He hoped that she chose anger. He loved breaking people who displayed anger more than fear. It was always fun watching them fall apart.Maribell knew that smile. She thought back to the number of times that she had seen that exact same smile growing up. It was the smile of someone who enjoyed hurting others. She sighed as if being near him bored her. She knew that he wanted her anger over her fear. People like him loved to break anyone who displa

Chapter Five
Margo stepped out of her cabin and into the cold evening air as she got ready to see who needed to be rescued first from his cells. She had one week left before he sent a group of girls to the Island. With her hair pulled back into a ponytail she pulled a black baseball cap on top of her head. She slung a black backpack over her shoulder and then walked to  her car.  After a thirty minute drive she parked on the side of a dirt road and then climbed out of her car. She locked it up and then after looking both ways crossed the street and into the woods. She stepped past a barbed wire fence and then made the two hour trek to Bernard’s compound. She hung back in the woods waiting for a shift change as the sun’s final rays descended into the darkness. Margo watched with bated breath as the men began to move. She knew the rou

Kane sighed as he put his phone in his back pocket. He was nervous to find out what Margo had found in Bernard’s cells. He hopped on his motorcycle and revved up the engine. It wasn’t long and he was flying down the road to the club. When he pulled up he saw Joker’s and Jude’s motorcycles parked out front. He parked his bike next to theirs and went inside. He sighed when he saw Machine sitting at the bar with them. “Hey,” he said, walking up to the bar. “Hey, you look like you’re in a better mood.” Machine said. “Did you finally hear from her?” “Yeah. She didn’t listen and went back.” Kane said. “Who?” Joker asked.

“So you’re saying that he’s been selling people to breed?” Machine asked, leaning back in his chair. “Yes.” Margo said, sitting down. “Look, people like Maribell don’t have anyone looking out for them. Her family sold her to Bernard. That’s how a lot of people end up there.”“This is just disgusting.” Jude whispered. “Okay. I get why you went there.” Machine sighed. “I’ll put it to a vote… but I don’t know how many people would be willing to go against a guy that influential.”“Show them the pictures. We all know that if anyone but me went down there you wouldn’t have left them like that. You would have tried to break them out immedia

Chapter Eight
Maribell sat curled up in the corner of her cell. She heard the doors open announcing the arrival of someone. Her eyes went wide and she quickly moved in front of the little girl that shared her cell, blocking her from view. She didn’t want them touching her. She tensed when she heard footsteps approaching the cell they shared. She hoped and prayed that they would go past her. That they would stop before they saw her. The little girl, who she learned was Cara clung to her back sobbing quietly. Maribell didn’t  care that  she was brushing against the wounds on her back and held in the groan that wanted to escape as her fresh wounds stung and burned. “Maribell….” Came a singsong voice from outside the cell. She stiffened more when she heard the voice.  She knew who it belonged to and glared up at the woman as sh

Chapter Nine
Margo stood in one of the club rooms staring at her surroundings. She remembered how her father used to tell her about the club and what the rooms were like before he died. Machine and the guys must have made some repairs and cleaned it up because it was nowhere near as ratty as he had made it sound or maybe it was all those years in the cell that were talking. She sighed and sat down. She knew that tomorrow was church and that they would be deciding if they were going to help break them out or if they were on their own. She heaved a frustrated sigh as she thought about the possibility of the others being against taking down Bernard. A knock on her door interrupted her musings. She stood up with a sigh and went to answer the door. She took a hesitant step back when she saw three men standing there. She smiled hesitantly as she looked up at them.&nbs

Chapter Ten
Kane sighed as he sat at the bar. The club had been lively until Margo had shocked everyone into silence. He sat there sipping his beer trying to control his bubbling anger. He couldn’t believe that they had cornered her like that. “So…” Cinder said as he stood next to Kane awkwardly. “Don’t you even fucking talk to me right now!” Kane roared, shoving away from the bar. “What the hell.” Samurai said, looking between the two of them. “Is that really necessary?”“Yes it fucking is!” Dex said, as he approached the bar with Machine. “Do you boys have any idea how hard that must have been for her? Do you have any idea why s
