Lillian

I've been standing here for over fifteen minutes now." If you don't give me the templates, then I'll just tell Zayden you refused orders."

She hissed." Look at you being all sassy. Don't forget your place, Lillian."

I hummed." My place is right above you." I pointed at her, a sly smile on my lips.

It feels good to be superior. I know I'm being unreasonable right now. We were not even married yet, and here I was already giving orders, but I didn't care.

" Look for the template yourself." She snarled.

I shrugged." Have it your way then; I'll just simply tell Zayden that you refused his order."

She hesitated before digging into her shelf."Here you go." She handed over the Files that Hale Corp rejected.

I smirked." I'm going to be your boss soon, do show a little respect."

She cursed at me." You should be ashamed. You're sleeping with your boss. You're a whore.”

I chuckled." I'm sleeping with both brothers. That's why they're all over me. I won't be surprised if they both fight over me soon.” I lied through my teeth.

Was I feeling proud? Yes.

Am I going to humble myself? Absolutely not.

Am I going to treat those who looked down on me like trash? Hell yeah.

Her lips twitched in anger." You will not last long, he'll dump you when he's done with you."

"And by then I'll be done with him." I shrugged before turning to leave.

I entered the elevator, but it wasn't empty; an old man whom I recognised as Zayden's father was in it.

He looked up from his watch after noticing my presence. I bowed my head in greeting, my whole body tensing.

" Did he tell you I want you both over tonight for dinner?" He spoke.

I creased my brows." Umm..no."

He sighed." I would like to know more about my daughter-in-law before the wedding. You both would be staying at the family home before the wedding."

I sucked in a breath. Zayden didn't tell me there would be a wedding and he didn't tell me we would be living with his father.

" Um.. okay."

He continued." I don't approve of you. You're not fit to be a Kent, but for his sake, I'll let it slide."

My lips thinned into a half smile."I love your son, Mr Kent."

He snapped." Don't fool me; you've only been here for a few months."

I wanted to say something but thought better of it."A few months is enough for anyone to develop feelings."

He maintained a straight face." Seems to me that you are after his money because there's nothing to love about my son."

I swallowed. Why does everyone keep speaking ill of him." I don't think........"

"I know my son better than you do. Sooner or later, you'll regret saying yes to his proposal.” His voice was stern.

I don't know why, I just found myself taking his side." No one is perfect. He has his flaws, so does he have his perfections."

He chuckled, his voice echoing through the walls of the elevator." His existence is a flaw. I'm saving you, back out while you still can."

I stood my ground even as my stomach roiled." I choose to marry him and I will."

He glanced over at me, his grey eyes staring deep into my soul." Once the news of your engagement is publicised, you'll become famous. Try not to drag my name in the mud."

There was a ding and the door opened. He stepped out, leaving my mouth open. I now knew where Zayden got his arrogance from.

I shook my head. There were more pressing issues, like the fact that he wanted us at his family home tonight.

I got out of the elevator and headed towards the office. I finally got the chance to go over the files.

My brows furrowed as I scanned the documents. I knew the presentation I wrote like I knew my last name and what I have here was the complete opposite.

I stormed into the office. Zayden was sitting behind his desk sulking like a child. If we weren't in a delicate situation right now, I would have teased him.

I placed the files on the desk." This is where the problem started."

He glanced at the file then at me." Your strategy didn't work."

I sighed." Did you submit the files yourself?"

He furrowed his brows." No, Helena finalised everything."

I gritted my teeth; I hoped this wouldn't turn out to be what I thought it was.

I threw the file on his lap." Read it."

He glanced at the files unmoving." Just tell me."

I rolled my eyes." Stop being stubborn and read it."

He still didn't move a muscle, a deep frown on his handsome face.

I grabbed the files. If I wait for him then We will both grow old." This is not my write-up. It's the complete opposite."

He only stared at me.

I sighed heavily and then walked over to my desk. Grabbing the iPad, I walked back to his desk.

" Look here. This is the draft." I said pointing at the screen.

" And this was what got rejected. It's completely different. You didn't submit my presentation."

He finally sat up, and my eyes unconsciously went below his belt. I could still see the bulge in his pants.

He took the iPad from me, scanned it and then looked over the files on his desk.

" What the fuck!"He exclaimed.

" Yes, what the fuck!" I repeated." So basically, you lost the contract because your work was sabotaged."

He ran a hand through his hair." The board went through it and it was accepted. So how?"

I thought carefully, imagining every single scenario." Except when it was sent to Hale Corp, it was tampered with."

He glanced over at me, his eyes calculating. A deep frown suddenly formed on his face." Helena finalized the documents; she sent them to Hale Corp."

It suddenly dawned on me." Helena, she's dumb."

Zayden called her in immediately. She came in, shoulders high, with an innocent expression on her face.

" Explain to me, what this is !" Zayden snarled behind his desk. He didn't get up and we both know it was because of his erection.

How long does it last again?

Helena picked up the documents." It's the documents you asked for."

Zayden bit down on his lips, his muscles tensed." Helena, this wasn't the documents I gave you to finalize."

Her eyes widened." Of course, they are."

" I'm not stupid, Helena; this wasn't the documents I worked on." He yelled.

She flinched, shutting her mouth immediately."Sir, I only did as you told me."

Zayden slammed his hands on his desk." I lost millions of dollars, I lost a promising partnership and I even ....." He paused glancing over at me.

I knew what he was going to say.

" You're fired; forget about your paycheck," Zayden said, waving her off.

Her eyes widened in desperation." Mr Kent."

"Get out, since you're not ready to tell me the truth then get the fuck out." He gnarled.

Her hands trembled. She looked from me then to Zayden, and finally, she spilled it.

Tears pooled down her cheeks." I'm sorry, I switched it. I swear it will never happen again."

Zayden scoffed." Why did you do that? Weren't you aware it would affect the company?"

She bites down on her lips, sobbing uncontrollably." Please don't fire me. I'm sorry.”

" Get out before I break your bones."

He was too pissed to continue speaking with her. In the end, she confessed. She said it was because she wanted to get me in trouble, and she lost her job for it.

I was now left alone with zayden again.

"Lillian....."

I cut him off." If you're going to apologize then save it. Sorry isn't going to redeem you this time."

He kept quiet."I'm sorry."

" Next time, don't just throw accusations without gathering facts." I hissed and went into my space.

I packed my bags, I was done for the day. I had to prepare myself.

" Where are you going?" He asked on seeing me with my handbag about leaving his office.

" Your dad wants us at his place till the wedding, I'm going to pack my bags,” I told him.

Without waiting for his response, I left the office. I met Helena in the parking lot.

" You'll pay for this, I promise you I'll make you suffer." She yelled in my face. Her face was red from crying too much

I shrugged." You put yourself in this situation. If only you had minded your business and being a good little receptionist."

She lifted her hands to slap me but paused mid-air." I'll make you pay, I promise you that. I'll make sure you'll lose everything."

I sighed shaking my head." I wish you well. Try to stop being envious, or you might get in trouble again."

I left her standing on the walkway and flagged down a cab.

I don't know how tonight's dinner with Zayden's family would unfold, but I had a slight feeling it wouldn't end well.

And I was right; I came to uncover some shitty things about Zayden, including the reason why everyone, even his father, hated him.
