"Check the chicken in the oven!" Her mum brought her attention back to reality. Seated on the sofa with her head buried in her phone, her legs were crossed in her favorite position of a couch potato."Oh!" She stood up precipitously, she dropped her phone in seconds and headed to the kitchen. With her hair in a messy bun, she squinted her eyes and went to look at the oven and crouched. She tried to guess if the chicken was fully ready. "Are you really ready?" Her mum smiled as she made reference to Jasmine being a psychologist even if she hadn't gotten a job yet, she could see how serious her daughter was."

She closed her eyes and shivers, her breath was cut short. Not a thought was in her mind. The bus night ride was like yesterday, the day before that and the day before that, everyday since her mother died, she never entered the car, it reminded her of her mum the most, it was a birthday gift from her mum, even if it was a hand me down from her own father to her mother then to her. “Who are you?” Jasmine asked with fear surging through her. This man before her looked nothing like anything good. If you judged by his multiple tattoos and the soft faraway look on his face, Jasmine felt like taking the easy way out of her apartment. His features looked soft but it was doing more of scaring her than making her actually calm. She didn’t want to die just like her mom.Her carelessness and forgetfulness was the reason her mum and this might be her fate too. Instead of answering her question, he takes time to tear apart the rose flower he was holding. He removed each petals with a soft smile and he hummed to a tune Jasmine has never heard before. The sound was soft and calming, something she hadn’t felt in months.“Call me peace, I bring that to people.” He said softly and she scoffed. If someone covered in tattoos could preach peace, then the men that killed her mom could be mistaken as popes. He didn’t find her scoff amusing so he continued ripping apart the flowers.
