"What if... what if I had gotten pregnant back then? What if we had a child together? What would you do in that situation?" Ms. Julia leaned in, moving close to my ear, and whispered with a chilling intensity, "I would have killed him without a second thought." My eyes widened in shock, but the devil woman nodded with a cold smile. "That's right. Collin's heir can only be born from a woman who is exceptionally beautiful and exudes class, someone worthy of standing beside my handsome son. You, my dear, do not meet our standards. We have high expectations, girls." Marissa Bennett was left reeling from her mother-in-law's chilling words. Her elder sister, Renee, had abandoned her disabled fiancé on their wedding day, leaving Marissa to step in and marry him under the guise of Renee, all to save the family's reputation. The cruel twist? Marissa was forbidden from revealing her true identity to her new husband, Tyler Collins. After Tyler's surgery restored his health, Marissa's world was shattered when Renee returned, demanding her place as the rightful wife. Desperate to tell Tyler the truth, Marissa faced a dire threat from her mother-in-law, who vowed to kill her if she exposed the deception. Now pregnant and determined to protect her unborn child, Marissa must navigate the treacherous waters of the Collins family, seeking a way to escape and start anew, far from the lies and danger that surround her.

Chapter 1: pregnancy report

I glanced up at Victoria's forehead, noting the deep worry lines as she scanned the test results in her hands. "What's wrong?" I asked, my attention momentarily diverted by the maids spilling watermelon juice on the table.

"This thyroid issue has thrown my routine into chaos, Victoria. I can't figure out how to handle my sugar cravings anymore!" I exclaimed, raising my glass of watermelon juice to eye level.

"It's not related to the cyst," Victoria stated, removing her glasses and placing the test results on the table, while she approached me.

After taking a seat beside me, Victoria leaned back on the sofa, carefully observing my expression. "When was your last menstrual cycle?" she inquired.

I adjusted my position, placing my handbag beside me. "I think it was around two months ago, but it didn't seem like anything major," I mentioned. "Is there something I should be concerned about, Victoria?"

Victoria Quinn was not just a personal doctor to me; she was like an elder sister, a guiding light in my life. Victoria was also a renowned cardiologist, celebrated with numerous awards in her field.

I was already tense, my mind preoccupied with thoughts of my husband, Tyler Collins. Today, after years of being disabled and blind, he would return home from his surgery.

A small smile crossed Victoria's lips. "I know you're anxious, Marissa. Today, Tyler will learn the truth—that all this time, while he was blind, it was you, not Renee, who stood by his side."

My shoulders tensed, and I took a deep breath, my fingers fidgeting with the edge of my sleeve.

"Based on the information in the test results provided to you, I believe he will not remain upset once you inform him of your pregnancy."

My mouth dropped open. "What? Pregnant?"

Victoria nodded, her smile warm and reassuring. "Yes, and now it's important for you to stay happy and follow a nutritious diet for your babies."

My heart skipped a beat as my hand instinctively moved to my belly in shock.

"Babies? Twins?"

Three years ago, I was compelled to marry Tyler Collins after my sister ran away from the wedding, unable to marry a disabled man.

Tyler Collins, the strikingly handsome president of Ace Corporation, was deeply in love with Renee.

In a car accident, he lost his eyesight and suffered severe spinal injuries. After undergoing costly treatments, the doctors decided to prioritize surgery on his spine and delay the eye operation. They were quite optimistic about the success of the procedures..

However, on the wedding day, when the Bishop called out to the groom, Renee decided to flee the venue, leaving me with no choice but to step in and take my sister's place.

Tyler's mother, Julia Collins, tearfully pleaded with me to accept her disabled son's proposal, fearing he would lose the will to live if I refused.

I was somewhat different from Renee. I had always been an introverted and reserved girl, with my world centered on literature.

Three years ago, when my sister introduced Tyler to the family, I met him for the first time.

He immediately became my crush, but I remained silent out of respect for my older sister, Renee. Renee was a beautiful and lively person, passionate about wealthy men and clubbing. From an early age, boys were captivated by her body figure, drawn to her like bees to honey.

Renee and Tyler fell madly in love and wanted to marry immediately after meeting, but their plans were derailed when Tyler was involved in a car accident that left him disabled.

After Tyler was hospitalized, Renee became withdrawn. She visited him regularly, but I could sense that the spark between them had faded.

"Nonsense," my mom, Melissa Bennett, dismissed my concerns with a wave of her hand. "Your sister is distressed, but she loves Tyler more than anything. Stop thinking negatively about her."

Concerned about Tyler's troubling mental health, Mom decided to approach his family with a marriage proposal. Both families agreed to arrange the wedding, and everyone seemed pleased with the decision, except for Renee.

I noticed the sadness in her reaction, but as usual, Mom dismissed it.

However, everyone was stunned when Renee was discovered missing from her bridal suite, leaving behind only a brief letter of apology that read, "Sorry, I can't marry a disabled man!"

I was made to take the fall, with Mom insisting I don the wedding dress in my sister's place.

The only similarity between Renee and me was our mannerisms. No one could tell us apart, which worked in favor of both families.

Since marrying him, I became known as Renee to everyone around me. Only Victoria Quinn, my personal doctor, continued to call me by my real name whenever she visited.

Tyler finally had a successful eye operation, and today the doctors were scheduled to remove both the blindfold and the wheelchair. I was extremely nervous, but both families had assured me of their support when facing Tyler.

He needed to come to terms with the fact that the woman he married three years ago was not Renee, but her sibling, Marissa.

On my way back from my friend's house, I couldn't stop grinning as I hummed along to my favorite songs. My pregnancy report was tucked safely in my purse, and I could already picture Tyler's joy.

"Time to end the charade, Mr. CEO," I whispered to myself.

"I'm your wife, and you need to accept it, love. We're going to be parents very soon, and that's final. You belong to me, and today I'll show you just how deeply I love you."

I caressed my belly tenderly and closed my eyes in sheer bliss.

The past three years of our marriage had been wonderful. We often shared deep conversations about art, music, and life. Tyler frequently mentioned that he had never experienced such meaningful discussions before.

"Since when did my wife become such a genius?" he would tease me, before pulling me into a passionate kiss. I would melt into his embrace, losing myself in the moment.

I also assisted him in managing the business. He taught me the intricacies of securing billion-dollar deals and how to effectively lead meetings.

In essence, we supported each other in every aspect.

My heart raced as the car came to a stop in the driveway of our mansion.

"Time to make your daddy mine, as Mrs. Marissa Collins," I spoke to my unborn babies, letting out a long sigh. As I reached the entrance of the mansion, I noticed several cars parked out front, including the one Tyler had taken for his surgery, now parked in its usual spot.

As I approached the entrance to Tyler's room, where he had just arrived, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest.

With fingers crossed, I pulled the envelope containing my pregnancy report from my purse and opened the door.

I hesitated as I took in the sight before me. My husband, Tyler Collins, was standing upright without his wheelchair. His blue eyes were gleaming with excitement as he laughed heartily at something in the room.

Tyler stood closely behind a woman, engaging in playful, romantic touches. It was an intimacy typically reserved for a wife.

Only I should have been standing that close.

'Who is she?' I wondered.

At that moment, the woman lifted her face, and our tear-filled eyes met.

"Renee?" I whispered to myself.

'What on earth...'

'What is she doing here?'

"Oh, Tyler," Renee choked out, "I never thought this day would come."

"Don't cry, sweetheart." He gently wiped her tears.

'Sweetheart? That's what Tyler used to call me.'

'ME!'

Just then, Tyler noticed me. "Marissa! My dear sister-in-law. What brings you here so soon? How did you know I was discharged today?"

He had been informed that his sister-in-law had gone to LA for her acting career. Ignoring him, I directed a piercing gaze at my sister.

"Renee, what on earth are you doing here?" My unexpected question cast a sudden silence over the room.
