My Agony

The moon was so beautiful in the sky. It felt like the goddess was watching her children about to create children of their own.

Marenza was doing some finishing touch with the help of one of the omegas. 

“How are you feeling?” asked Regan who came to stand beside me.

Like I had a hive of bees in my stomach. Was I going to have sex with Xander this night? For some reason, this was the first time the thought entered my head after he asked me to be Luna.

“Nervous.”

He nodded, “it's normal. Don't worry, we will be by your side.”

My heart warmed. This people that weren't my family in any way always did better than my actual family did. I pray the goddess grants them their wish this night.

“Has your dad talked to you?”

“No. He's still ignoring me. I don't know what to do so I decided to stop worrying about it. I've come to realize that he is the one at fault not me.”

“That's my girl” Regan said and I smiled.

“I'm here!” Marenza announced, the omega walking behind her with an amused smile.

Regan made a bee line for her and lifted her up, spinning around. I laughed, they were so cute.

He carefully dropped her and rested his forehead on hers. They whispered to each other, their eyes shining with obvious love for each other.

There was no tiny feeling of envy this time, the past few weeks of being around them had made me used to it.

I still wanted what they have, I just wasn't ready to go find it.

Even with Alpha Xander?

I ignored the tiny voice in my head.

“We will continue this in front of everyone” Regan promised making Marenza laugh.

“I thought you would never stop sucking his face” I teased Marenza.

“I didn't, he's the one who stepped away” she replied with a small whine.

We laughed and Regan winked at his mate.

“I fear for my eyes.” Marenza stood beside me. The omegas divided into two, a group in front of us and the other behind. Regan lead the procession.

Marenza laughed, “sweetie, whether you like it or not, you're in for a threat. A sexy threat.”

“No…” I whined, “...I don't want to see people fucking like rabbits.”

Marenza laughed loud. The omegas around us had big smiles on their faces. They were special omegas in charge of the priestess safety. They looked meek and fragile but I could see their sharp gaze and the way they scanned the environment with their eyes.

I wanted to ask how many breeding ceremony Marenza had attended but I wasn't sure how she'll respond to the question.

“I was sixteen the first time I attended the breeding ceremony…” she started, answering my unanswered question.

“What?! Sixteen?”

The law allowed only from eighteen above.

Marenza chuckled, “yeah…my best friend was a crazy bastard and he wanted to see naked people going at it. I followed because I didn't want him lusting after other women. Sixteen years down the line and he still has eyes for only me.”

I smiled as I realized the crazy best friend was Regan. They were the version of Damien and I that I thought we would be.

“I didn't know you and Regan were best friends.”

Marenza's eyes sparkled, “friends from birth. Carlson was like our senior brother and Xander was the pup of the group.”

I was shocked. I didn't know any of this. I knew they were all pack members but I wasn't expecting such deep relationship. That explains their anger when they found out how dad treats me.

“Tell me more.” I plead.

“We were all shocked when Xander killed the former Alpha. He was a tyrant and the pack was dieing under his rule. Xander had just come back from his uncle's pack where he spent most of his teen. He was different, no longer a pup in anyway…” her eyes looked distant, lost in the past while her feet moved on their own accord.

“...he didn't tolerate that bastard for up to three months before he challenged him. Carlson thought Xander was crazy and tried to stop him, Regan was crazy with bloodlust and goddess knows if Xander hadn't challenged the bastard first, he would have done it.”

“Regan cheered him on, supporting him all the way but I knew he also had his doubt. The bastard was a scary, mean mother fucker. It came as a shock to everyone, every-fucking-body when Xander took him out in a matter of minutes. I don't think I can ever forget that moment, Xander stood above the headless body in his wolf form, the head of the bastard firmly held in his mouth.”

I gasped…so that was the moment he instilled fear mixed with respect in the heart of the pack members. It would have been crazy.

“Regan couldn't be beta because he thrives more in battle than in leadership…”

“Shh…” an omega said, silencing Marenza. 

We glanched at each other as the omegas brought out blades that weren't fucking visible through their thin clothes.

“Regan said we should get…”

Two omegas fell.

“Get down!!” Marenza dragged me and we lay on the floor.

What's going on?!!

An omega fell beside me, I caught my scream before it escaped from my lips. Marenza checked the Omega's neck and nodded at me.

She's still alive then what…

I saw a needle sticking out from her arm. Grabbing the arm, I showed it to Marenza. I ignored the noise of the battle going on around us and focused on her.

“Dart…” she pulled it out, putting pressure on the wound, “...it's not poisonous” she said after observing the needle.

“Then…” I felt a hand on my ankle and screamed.

I was dragged up in the embrace of a strange muscular male.

“Leila!!” Marenza screamed, scrambling off the floor about to shift.

I froze as I felt the cold blade of a sword on my neck.

“Try anything funny and she dies” my captor said. Marenza growled and the fight around me stopped.

“Good.” I felt a sting on my arm…
