Chapter 1: The Crash
Lila Monroe gripped the steering wheel tight, her heart pounding as rain slammed against the windshield. The wipers could barely keep up. It was late, way too late for her to still be driving home after a double shift at the small clinic. Her eyes felt heavy, but she pushed on. Just a few more miles and she’d be in her warm bed. Then everything went wrong. Bright headlights cut through the darkness from the side. A truck. Too fast. Lila screamed and yanked the wheel, but it was too late. The crash hit like thunder. Metal screamed. Glass exploded around her. Her body slammed hard against the seatbelt, pain shooting through her chest and leg. The world spun. Then it went black. When Lila opened her eyes again, everything hurt. Sirens wailed close by. Cold rain mixed with blood on her face. She tried to move but a sharp pain tore through her right leg. She gasped and looked down. Her thick thigh was trapped under twisted metal. “Help…” she whispered. Her voice sounded small in the storm. Strong hands reached through the broken window. Paramedics. They talked fast, cutting her free, sliding her onto a stretcher. Lila caught bits of their words — “possible internal bleeding,” “get her to Mercy General now.” The ambulance ride was a blur of lights and pain. She drifted in and out, thinking about how stupid she had been. Working too hard. Eating her feelings after another bad date where the guy called her “too much” once he saw her without clothes. Her soft belly, wide hips, heavy breasts — she had learned long ago that most men only wanted one type of body. Not hers. The hospital doors burst open. Bright lights burned her eyes as they wheeled her into the ER. Voices shouted all around. “I need a trauma surgeon! Now!” someone yelled. Then he appeared. Dr. Ethan Black moved through the chaos like he owned it. Tall, broad shoulders under his white coat, dark hair slightly messy like he had run his fingers through it too many times. His blue eyes locked on her the second he reached the stretcher. Lila’s breath caught. Even through the pain, she noticed him. Really noticed him. The sharp line of his jaw. The way his presence filled the whole room. “What do we have?” he asked, voice deep and steady. His hands were already moving over her, checking her neck, her chest, pressing gently on her soft belly. “Car versus truck. Female, twenty-nine. Possible broken leg, head trauma, BP dropping,” a nurse answered quickly. Ethan’s eyes met Lila’s again. For a second, the noise around them seemed to fade. His gaze moved over her face, then down her body — not in a creepy way, but like he was seeing every part of her. The way her curves pressed against the torn clothes. The fullness of her breasts rising and falling with each shallow breath. Something flickered in his eyes. Something intense. “You’re going to be okay,” he told her. His voice was calm but firm. “I’ve got you now. Stay with me.” Lila tried to nod but pain made her wince. “It hurts… so much.” “I know,” he said softly. One of his large hands rested on her shoulder, warm and steady. “We’re taking you to surgery right away. Lila, right? That’s what your ID says. Lila Monroe.” She managed a weak smile. “Yes.” “Good. I need you to fight for me, Lila. Can you do that?” Before she could answer, the room started spinning again. Her vision blurred. The last thing she saw clearly was Dr. Ethan Black barking orders, his face set with focus as they rushed her down the hall. Everything went dark once more. When Lila woke up again, the pain was still there but different. Dulled. She blinked slowly, trying to understand where she was. A private hospital room. Soft lights. Machines beeping steadily beside her bed. Her right leg was in a cast, raised up. Bandages covered parts of her arms and chest. She felt heavy. Exposed. The thin hospital gown did little to hide her body — her full breasts, the soft curve of her belly, her thick thighs. A quiet knock sounded at the door. It opened, and Dr. Ethan Black stepped inside. He had changed into fresh scrubs that hugged his muscular arms and chest. He looked even taller up close. His blue eyes found hers immediately. “You made it through surgery,” he said, walking over to her bedside. “You’re a strong one, Lila.” She swallowed, suddenly shy under his stare. “Thank you… for saving me.” He pulled up a chair and sat down, close enough that she could smell his clean, masculine scent. “It was bad. Fractured femur, cracked ribs, some internal bruising. But you’re stable now.” His eyes moved over her again, slower this time. Like he couldn’t help it. “How do you feel?” “Like I got hit by a truck,” she whispered with a small laugh that made her ribs ache. “Which I did.” Ethan smiled. It was small, but it changed his whole face. Made him look less like a cold surgeon and more like a man. “You have a good sense of humor. That helps with recovery.” He checked the monitor, then gently pressed on her wrist to feel her pulse. His touch lingered a second longer than necessary. Lila’s skin tingled where his fingers rested. She had never reacted to a doctor like this before. But something about Ethan Black felt different. Dangerous, almost. “Do you remember anything about the crash?” he asked. “Not much. Just headlights. Then pain.” He nodded, jaw tight. “The police will want to talk to you soon. It looks like the other driver fled the scene. Hit and run.” Lila’s stomach dropped. “What?” Before Ethan could say more, the door opened again. A nurse rushed in, looking worried. “Dr. Black, we need you in ER. Another bad one just came in. Possible multiple victims.” Ethan stood up quickly, but he looked back at Lila. His eyes held hers with an intensity that made her breath catch. “I’ll be back to check on you personally,” he said. “Rest now. That’s an order.” He left, and the room felt colder without him. Lila lay there, staring at the ceiling. Her body ached, but her mind kept replaying the way Dr. Ethan Black had looked at her. Not with pity. Not with disgust at her size. Something else. Something hungry. She closed her eyes, trying to sleep. But sleep didn’t come easy. Hours later, in the middle of the night, her door opened quietly again. Footsteps approached her bed. Lila’s eyes fluttered open. Dr. Ethan Black stood there in the dim light, looking down at her. His white coat was gone. Just scrubs now. His expression was different — darker, more intense. “Lila,” he said softly. “I can’t stop thinking about you.” Her heart raced. Before she could respond, the machines around her started beeping wildly. Her vision blurred again as pain shot through her chest. “Ethan…” she whispered, reaching out weakly. His face changed to alarm. “Nurse! Get in here now!” Everything started fading once more. The last thing Lila saw was Dr. Ethan Black leaning over her, his strong hands pressing on her chest, calling her name like he was afraid to lose her. What was happening to her body? And why did this man she barely knew look so terrified of losing her already?Chapter 10 I woke up in Ethan’s bed with his warm body curled around mine. His hand rested on my soft belly, holding me like I belonged there. He kissed the back of my neck slowly, his voice still sleepy. “Morning, beautiful. How’s the pain today?” “Better,” I whispered. I turned to face him and he pulled me closer. His fingers traced my curves gently, not rushing. He kissed me deep, his tongue tasting mine while his palm smoothed over my wide hips. “I love waking up to this body,” he said softly. “But we need to be careful. I don’t want to hurt you.” We touched and teased for a while, his mouth on my breasts and belly, making me feel wanted, but he stopped before we went too far. “Tonight,” he promised. “When you’re ready and we have time.” We drove to the hospital separately. My shift started busy like always. I focused on patients, but Ethan’s presence filled every corner. During a quiet moment he pulled me into the stairwell, pressing me against the wall. His hand slipped unde
Chapter 9 I stepped into the trauma department the next morning feeling nervous as hell. My leg still ached a little and my ribs were sore, but I needed to get back to work. Ethan had cleared me for light duty. The security he arranged dropped me off early, and I tried to act normal as I walked through the familiar halls in my scrubs. The place was already busy. Nurses and doctors rushed around, machines beeped, and patients waited in the bays. I clocked in at the station and grabbed my tablet for assignments. A couple of the girls I knew gave me quick smiles, but I caught some whispers behind my back. “That’s her. The one Dr. Black saved.” I ignored it and focused on my first patient, a guy with a broken arm from a car crash. As I checked his vitals, I felt eyes on me. I looked up and there was Ethan at the end of the hall, watching me with that intense stare. He looked sharp in his white coat, commanding as always. My body reacted instantly, heat pooling low even though we were i
Chapter 8I woke up with Ethan’s arm still around me. His hand rested possessively on my soft belly even in his sleep. For a second everything felt safe. Then I remembered the photo from last night and my stomach dropped. He stirred when I moved. “Morning, beautiful,” he said, voice rough from sleep. His fingers squeezed my curves gently before he sat up. “How are you feeling?”“Sore. Scared.” I touched his face. “But better with you here.”He kissed me slow and deep, like he needed it as much as I did. His hand slid under my gown to cup one of my heavy breasts, thumb brushing my nipple until I gasped. “I hate that I can’t take you properly yet,” he whispered. “These thighs… I want them wrapped around my head so bad.”A knock interrupted us. It was the head nurse Ethan trusted. “Dr. Black, the discharge papers are ready if you approve. But there’s a lot of pressure from administration to send her home today.”Ethan’s jaw tightened. He looked at me. “You’re not fully healed, but stayin
Chapter 7 The administrator stood there with her clipboard, staring at me like I had done something wrong. She was a thin woman in her fifties, lips pressed tight. “Miss Monroe, we have strict policies about relationships between staff and patients. Dr. Black’s request to keep you here longer raises questions.” I shifted in the bed, pain still biting at my ribs. Before I could say anything, Ethan moved closer, his tall frame blocking her view of me. “This is a medical decision, not a personal one,” he said, voice sharp and cold. “Lila experienced multiple threats while under our care. She stays until I clear her. End of discussion.” The woman opened her mouth but Ethan just stared her down until she nodded and left quickly. The door shut and I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. Ethan turned to me, his eyes softening. He sat on the bed and pulled me into his arms carefully. “Sorry about that. Some people love to stick their noses where they don’t belong.” His hands star
Chapter 6My heart pounded so hard I thought it would burst out of my chest. The lights in my room kept flickering like something out of a nightmare, and that damn monitor screamed nonstop. I tried to sit up but pain shot through my ribs and leg, pinning me to the bed.The door flew open. Ethan stormed in, his white coat flapping behind him. His eyes locked on me instantly, dark and intense. Two nurses rushed in after him, but he barked at them to check the equipment while he came straight to my side.“Lila, breathe. I’m here,” he said, his voice low and steady. His hand found mine and squeezed. The flickering stopped after a minute, but my pulse still raced on the screen.“What the hell is happening?” I whispered, gripping his fingers tight. “They know everything. My new room, the calls… they won’t stop.”He leaned down, shielding me with his body like he could block the whole world. His free hand brushed my hair back from my face, then moved lower, resting on my shoulder before slid
Chapter 5My hands wouldn’t stop shaking as I stared at the dead phone. The distorted voice kept echoing in my head. Stop digging… next time the syringe won’t miss. I wanted to scream, but nothing came out. The hospital room felt too quiet now, too dark. Every shadow looked like it could hide another intruder.I pressed the call button hard. Nothing happened fast enough. Tears stung my eyes. My broken leg throbbed, my ribs ached, and fear sat heavy in my soft belly. Why was this happening to me? I was just a nurse trying to live my life. I didn’t dig into anything. I couldn’t even remember the crash clearly. The door opened fast. Ethan rushed in, his face tight with worry. He must have been close by. “Lila? What’s wrong? The monitor spiked again.”I grabbed his hand the second he reached the bed. His skin felt warm and strong. “Someone called. They threatened me. Said to stop digging into the accident or they’d come back. They mentioned you too.”Ethan’s jaw hardened. He sat on the be
