Chapter 5

Author: Crispy Coco
Massimo's POV

The island was dead silent.

The tablet shook in my hand. On the screen, Caterina stood next to that Russian psycho.

"No... this can't be happening..." I gripped the tablet tighter. "This is a trick. Special effects. Some damn deepfake!"

"Massimo, who is that?"

Cara, clueless as ever, leaned in. "Who's that man? He's taller than you... And Caterina's dress... it looks more expensive than mine."

Caterina's POVMassimo Moretti became the biggest joke in New York.Videos of "The Island Wedding with No Bride" and "The Queen in the Cathedral" went viral on the dark web.Everyone saw the Don of the Moretti family get thrown out of a church. They also saw his "innocent" little sweetheart throwing a tantrum on the floor. He tried to kill the story. But he forgot. The servers that control the media now belonged to my husband.Without the three Rossi money laundering routes, the Moretti family's mountains of black money were just paper. His shipping containers were seized by customs. His casinos were raided by the IRS.Even his family's old compound in Sicily was "accidentally" swept by the local police. And me? Caterina's POV"What? I never chose Cara!" Massimo shook his head frantically. "Caterina, you don't understand, she's just...""Just what?" I cut him off. "More important than me?""No! I love you!"Love?I had to laugh."You love me?" I knelt down, so we were eye to eye. "Then why did you let her wear my family's heirloom?"Massimo's face went pale."Why did you change the wedding venue to her island?""Why did you throw away the candles my grandmother left me?""Why did you let her rip my mother's veil?"Massimo opened his mouth, but no sound came out.He knew. There were no excuses."Caterina..." his voice trembled. "Give me a chance. I can make it up...""Make it up?" I stood. "How? With your lies? Your betrayal? Or with that pathetic family of yours that's already turning to dust?""Caterina..." His voice was shaking. "This is just a joke, right? You're mad at me because I changed the location? I can explain! I'll sell the island! We'll have the wedding in a church, tomorrow! No,

A flicker of tenderness in his deep blue eyes. I'd never seen it on a man like him."My wife," he said softly, then kissed the back of my hand.Suddenly, he dropped to one knee. The entire church went silent.Every guest held their breath.Nikolai pulled a black velvet box from inside his suit jacket.Inside was a massive black diamond ring, surrounded by a halo of smaller diamonds. "As a wedding gift," he declared, "I give you half my territory in New York."Half his territory? That was worth billions.Gasps echoed through the church. In our world, sentiment was a weakness. The night before the wedding, I was alone in the manor.Massimo and Cara had left that morning. "Final checks on the island," he'd said.My suitcase sat on the bed. A few simple clothes inside. And the torn veil.I was taking it with me. A souvenir of five years of lies.My phone rang. Massimo."Caterina, you asleep?" He sounded happy. "Cara and I are on the island. Don't be late."Ten a.m. He was still living in his dream world."Massimo," I said."Yeah?""Are you excited for tomorrow?""Of course," he laughed. "It's going to be the biggest wedding New York has ever seen. The whole world will see how happy we are."Happiness. What a fucking joke."Good," I said.
