The Don Never Heard Me
The Don Never Heard Me
Penulis: Jasmine Flower

Chapter 1

Penulis: Jasmine Flower
When I lost the baby, I begged my fiancé, Don Adriano Ferraro, to save me. But his stepsister got there first.

"Don't buy her act. She's just fishing for attention—again."

And he believed her. He left me to die.

Next thing I knew, I was flat on a hospital bed, barely hanging on, while nurses whispered like I was invisible.

"I heard she's Don Ferraro's fiancée. Yikes, what a mess."

"Why pity her? They call her La Pazza for a reason. She went after Sofia—his stepsister. Big mistake."

"Any girl near the Don ends up wrecked. Poor Sofia..."

I cracked my eyes open. One nurse froze, then bolted.

"Doctor! Ms. Carlson's awake!"

Adriano stormed in seconds later, eyes cold as ice.

Sofia clung to his arm, smug as hell.

"This is so you, Cassie," he said. "Always a burden."

My chest tightened.

"Look at Sofia," he ran a hand through her hair. "She thinks before she acts. No drama."

Sofia's smile curled, eyes glittering.

"And you?" His voice cut sharp. "You faked a pregnancy just to rush the wedding."

I stared at him, stunned he bought that crap.

Sofia smirked. "Cassie, come on. Full drama mode? You really went all in."

I gripped the sheets, choking down the pain.

My hand slid to my now-flat belly.

Five days ago, Sofia asked me to go hiking.

I didn't hesitate.

Didn't know it was a setup.

At the cliff's edge, she shoved me. I tumbled into the ravine.

Terror swallowed me.

I screamed for help. Adriano showed up.

But Sofia beat me to him.

"Adriano, you have to believe me," she gasped, fake-shaken. "Cassie pushed me..."

I begged him to listen. He just stared, ice-cold.

"Cassie, this is what you do—lie and manipulate."

Then he walked away. Left me in the mountains.

Five days of freezing and despair.

I didn't just lose my baby—I lost the man I loved.

Tears slid down my cheeks, soaking the pillow.

Adriano's brows drew tight. "Use the best medicine. Get her stable. If anything goes wrong, you're finished," he barked at the doctor. A flicker of concern slipped out, but I didn't care anymore.

I thought about the baby I'd never meet, now just blood.

No medicine could fix that.

Sofia strolled over, handed me a mug of tea.

"Drink, Cassie," she said sweetly, venom dripping. "You thought saving Adriano's grandma and flashing that ring meant you'd won? In the end, I'm the one marrying him."

I clenched my teeth, silent.

They had no clue—I'd already buried that stupid love for Adriano.

Down in that ravine, freezing and bleeding, I made my choice.

Three days from now, we'd be over for good.

Sofia leaned in, voice low. "You and that baby of yours got what you deserved."

Rage flared hot in my eyes.

I could take her insults. Not when they hit my child.

She stepped closer, all fake concern. "Cassie, what's wrong? Still mad at me?"

Before I could move, she dropped the mug. Boiling tea hit my skin—burned like hell.

"Adriano!" she cried, clutching her hand. "Cassie's still mad—she knocked the mug over!"

Adriano rushed in, grabbed her hand, eyes full of panic.

"Are you okay? Did it burn you?"

He didn't even look at me.

Sofia shook her head, eyes gleaming. "I'm fine. Cassie's probably just in a bad mood. I get it."

"Let me go!" I shoved at him, fighting to break free. "I'm Charlotte, not Cassie!"Adriano only locked his arms tighter. "No—you're Cassie. MY Cassie!""You're wrong!" My voice cracked with desperation. "I'll never go back to you. I love Lucas now!"His eyes went dark. "Why? Why are you doing this to me? I took care of Sofia and that fake doctor. What more do you want?""That's on you," I said coldly. "It's got nothing to do with me.""You can't treat me like this!" he shouted, voice breaking. "If you come back, I'll give you anything. Do anything!""I don't care!" I shoved him harder. "We're done. Let me go!"Enraged, he clamped my wrist, squeezing until pain shot up my arm. "Leave? You're never leaving me. Never!"I gasped at the pain but wouldn't beg. Then I heard Lucas's voice outside the window. "Charlotte! Charlotte!"Hope shot through me. "Lucas! I'm here!""Don't shout!" Adriano roared, slapping a hand over my mouth. "You're mine. No one's taking you from me!"I thr

My new life found its groove. I picked up my brushes and started painting again—something I used to love before Sofia ruined it.Now, with a fresh start and a whole new name, I wasn't letting it go.Lucas was all in. He set me up with a sunny studio, stocked it with every brush and color I could want. When I got lost in the strokes, this weird calm would hit me—like nothing could touch me."Charlotte, your paintings are incredible." Lucas studied the canvas, eyes lit up. "You really have a gift.""Thanks." I gave a small smile, even though the edges felt sharp. These weren't just paintings. They were pieces of who I used to be. And now, I could only chase them as Charlotte. With Lucas backing me, I threw my first exhibition. The gallery was packed. People circled the room, stunned, tossing out praise like confetti. Then the air shifted.I looked toward the entrance—and froze.Adriano.His lips moved. After Sofia shoved me off that cliff, lying broken at the ravine, I thought I'd die there, forgotten. But fate tossed me a lifeline. She appeared out of nowhere—this witch with snow white hair, a face full of wrinkles, but eyes that burned bright. When she heard my story, she sighed. "Poor child. I'm a witch. I can help you live again—but it'll take guts.""What kind of guts?" I shot back."The guts to let go." Her eyes pinned me. "You can't grab a new life if you're clinging to the old one.""What's that supposed to mean?" I frowned."I'll find you a body that fits," she said. "The moment you surrender this life, your soul slips into that body and takes over where the other left off."I froze. But thinking of Adriano, of Sofia's betrayal, of the pain at the bottom of that ravine, I knew... maybe starting over wasn't the worst thing."All right. I'm in," I muttered, teeth clenched. The witch's eyes glimmered. "Good. When you're ready, the magic will take hold."The moment I

Adriano crashed into the OR, wild-eyed.Cassie lay on the table, blood soaking her, eyes shut. His chest clenched."Cassie! Cassie!" He grabbed her hand, shaking, voice raw.No matter how loud he shouted, she stayed silent.Adriano's eyes locked on the gash in Cassie's wrist, the torn bandage gone, the wound screaming her pain louder than words."Wh-What... is this?" His voice dropped, sharp and deadly. He whipped around, fist in Dr. Vitale's collar, eyes blazing red. "I told you to treat her. Why the hell is it still like this?""I..." Dr. Vitale's face drained, stammering uselessly.Sofia rushed up. "Adriano, don't blame Dr. Vitale. Cassie—she refused treatment, made a scene every time.""Shut up!" Adriano's roar shook the room, his bloodshot eyes cutting into her. "She's dead, and you're still trashing her?"He dragged in a breath, shoving grief down. "Call everyone in this hospital. I'll handle the investigation myself."After a tense wait, the staff crowded into the OR.

A few seconds earlier...Right after snapping at Cassie, Adriano headed downstairs, lit a cigarette, and tried to shake off the fury buzzing under his skin.Yeah, he'd lost it. Again. He told himself once her wounds healed, they'd get married. End of story. But watching her fight treatment like that? It lit him up all over again."Don't be mad," Sofia murmured, gently patting his back. "She's just being dramatic. She'll come around."Her soft voice cooled him down.Adriano nodded, starting to feel grateful for Sofia's calm—her sweet, understanding nature. He turned, wanting one last glance at Cassie—the woman he loved and hated all at once. What he saw froze him cold.Up on the window sill, a thin figure in a hospital gown swayed in the wind like a ghost."Cassie!" Adriano's chest seized as he yelled her name.He couldn't process it. A second ago she'd been fine—how had it come to this?"Cassie! What are you doing?!" His voice cracked, raw with fear and desperation.Cassi

When Adriano came to see me, the nurse was dabbing medicine on my infected fingers. The pain was brutal—sharp, deep. My face went pale, cold sweat sliding down my back, but I bit my lip and stayed quiet.Even when it split and bled, I only frowned and kept enduring."She's in pain. Be gentle!"Adriano frowned, snatched the medicine from the nurse, and started tending my wounds himself, his touch unexpectedly gentle."Cassie, if it hurts, say something. Don't force yourself."His voice was soft, like the man who once loved and spoiled me.But my heart felt nothing.I looked up into those deep blue eyes.Once, they held only me.Now? Just contempt and impatience."I'm fine," I said, voice calm and hollow.Adriano hesitated. I used to cry over a paper cut. Now..."You really have changed," he muttered, eyes unreadable.I dropped my gaze and stayed quiet.People change—especially when their hearts get crushed."If you apologize to Sofia and admit you were wrong, the wedding
