I stared at the doctor blankly, who was staring back at me with all smiles, after telling me what she believed was the greatest news every woman wanted.

"What do you mean I'm pregnant?" I asked after a while.

The doctor's smile never wavered, but I couldn't share her enthusiasm. How could this be happening now, at a time when my life was already upside down?

"You have a baby in your womb, that's how," the doctor explained, her tone gentle but matter-of-fact.

I shifted to the edge of my seat. "There must be some sort of mistake," I insisted. "I've never had sex before. Maybe you mixed up my results with someone else's. You can check my vagina, examine me again. I'm telling you, I've never had sex before. This can't be possible."
