Melanie p.o.v

I let out a sigh of relief as Dr. Danny finally managed to revive the man. His chest began to rise and fall with shallow breaths, and a faint pulse returned to his wrist. I had been worried that we would lose him, especially with the mysterious voice from the darkness urging Dr. Danny to hurry up.

As the man's eyelids fluttered open, I could see the pain and confusion etched on his face. He was barely conscious, his gaze drifting in and out of focus.

Suddenly, the voice from the darkness spoke up, its tone cold and menacing. "Enough. He's alive. Now, let's get what we came for."

A figure emerged from the shadows, his features still obscured by the dim lighting. He approached the bed, his eyes fixed intently on the wounded man.

"Tell me, Marcus," the mysterious man said, his voice dripping with malice. "Where is the package?"

Marcus's eyes rolled wildly, struggling to focus. He mumbled incoherently, his words slurred.

The mysterious man's face twisted in frustration. "Speak clearly, Marcus. Where. Is. The. Package?"

Marcus's gaze drifted to Dr. Danny. and me, filled with a desperate plea for help. I felt a surge of compassion, wanting to shield him from further harm.

Dr. Danny stepped forward. "He's not in any condition to answer questions. He needs medical attention, now." His voice wasn't firm, but he was hoping to help the man

The mysterious man's gaze snapped to Dr. Danny, his eyes flashing with warning. "You'll keep him alive, Doctor. That's all that matters. Now, Marcus... tell me."

Marcus's voice was barely audible, but I caught the words "...hidden...safe...never find..."

The mysterious man's face darkened, his jaw clenched. "We'll see about that."

I felt a chill run down my spine as the atmosphere in the room grew more ominous. What package was Marcus hiding? And what did this mysterious man plan to do with him?

The sound of a gunshot echoed through the room, making me jump. Before any of us could react, the wounded man's body went limp, his eyes frozen in a permanent stare.

"No!" Dr. Danny exclaimed, rushing to Marcus's side. "He's gone." He confirmed after checking for a heartbeat.

The mysterious man's face twisted in rage, his gun still smoking in his hand. "Fool," he muttered to himself.

I stood in shock, my mind reeling from the sudden turn of events. One moment, Marcus was struggling to stay alive; the next, he was gone.

I stood frozen in shock, the mysterious man's pristine attire caught my attention. Not a single stain or speck of blood marred his clothes. It was as if he hated getting himself dirty.

I, on the other hand, was covered in Marcus's blood. I shuddered, feeling a wave of nausea wash over me. Dr. Danny handed me a towel, and I quickly cleaned myself off, trying to compose myself.

The mysterious man's voice cut through the silence. "Stop the bleeding, nurse. We need to dispose of him properly."

I stared at him incredulously. "You want me to...after what you just did?"

He raised an eyebrow. "Yes, after what I just did. I don't tolerate any mistakes."

I shook my head, horror and disgust welling up inside me. "No. I won't help you cover up a murder."

The mysterious man chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Amusing. Nobody tells me no. Not even Dr. Danny here." He glanced at Dr. Danny, who looked away, his face pale.

He obviously knew who this mysterious man was, I noticed his eyes went wide in shock and fear early when the mystery man emerges to view. I'm the only clueless one in this room.

"Especially not you, little nurse," he continued. "You see, I can make people disappear. Even the police won't find you. You'll spend the rest of your life here with me, want to make a bet?."

My heart sank. I felt trapped, caught in a nightmare.

Dr. Danny voice was barely audible. "Melanie, please..."

The mysterious man's gaze locked onto mine. "So, will you cooperate?"

I swallowed hard, weighing my options. Refuse and risk imprisonment, or comply and become an accomplice to murder? Either way, I was trapped.

"What's your choice, nurse?" he pressed.

I hesitated, my mind racing. What would I do?

"I won't do it," I said finally, trying to sound firm despite the trembling in my voice.

The mysterious man's smile grew wider. "Very well. Take her away."

Two guards stepped forward, grasping my arms tightly. Dr. Danny protested, but was silenced by a warning glance from the mysterious man.

As they dragged me away, I caught a glimpse of Dr. Danny's worried face. "Melanie, I'm sorry!"

I was pulled down a dimly lit corridor, the air thick with the scent of disinfectant and decay. We stopped at a heavy metal door, adorned with rusting hinges and a large padlock.

The guard unlocked the door, revealing a narrow stairway leading into darkness. "The basement," he shoved me forward.

I stumbled down the stairs, my heart racing. The door creaked shut behind me, enveloping me in total darkness. I felt fear, terror even.

I could literally feel myself shivering like a dry leaf, what have I gotten myself into? I cried inwardly.

Suddenly, a faint light flickered to life, illuminating a cramped, dingy room. A single chair and a small table occupied the space.

A figure emerged from the shadows – the mysterious man.

"Change your mind, nurse?" he asked, his voice dripping with malice.

I squared my shoulders, defying the fear creeping up my spine. "I won't help you."

He shrugged. "Suit yourself. But know this: I own you now."

"I find you interesting." With that, he vanished into the darkness, leaving me alone in the cold, damp basement.

I was completely at his mercy at this point. I have no idea how I'd be able to survive and come out of this mess I've landed into.

Who's going to come to my rescue, and what's worse, I don't know where I am or who this man is.

Melanie’s POV“That is so hot!” April exclaimed. “Why have you been hiding him from us?”I didn’t know I was obligated to report to them.“More like I’ve been monopolizing her time,” Adriano said. “I miss her when she’s not with me so we’ve been spending all our free time together.”“That’s understandable,” April said.Hayley, who had been quiet finally asked, “If you don’t mind me asking, what do you do for a living, Adriano?”I turned to Adriano, practically begging him with my eyes not to say what he really did but to my surprise, he smiled at, Hayley.“I don’t mind, Hayley. I run a branch of our family business, the real estate and construction,” he answered.“So you’re like, old money?” Kelly asked.“Something like that,” he said.“What is the name of this family business?” Hayley asked."I'd rather not tell you everything about me on our first meeting. It'll take the novelty out of it."“Fair enough,” Hayley conceded.“I guess you really know how to pick them, Melanie,” Kelly sa

  • The Don's Innocent Nurse   Chapter 34

Melanie’s POVThanks to what Adriano termed my ‘tantrum’ I was able to have more freedom so the next time, Hayley invited me out for drinks, I readily accepted. However, when we walked out of the hospital, there was a little snag when Ralph wanted to drive me to the bar. Thankfully, I was able to convince him that it was better if I walked with my colleagues and he could just meet us there. The bar was called, Leo’s and it was only a couple blocks from the hospital. A great walking distance.“I’m glad you decided to join us tonight,” Hayley said after we placed an order for a round of beers.“Yeah, me too,” I replied.Luckily, the bar wasn't yet crowded and we were able to snag a table and join two tables together so that the seven of us could sit together.“For a while there I was sure you thought yourself better than us,” one of the other nurses, April said.“April!” Hayley chided.I heard the small gasp from others at April's words but their faces told a different story. They obvio

Melanie’s POVAfter the uncomfortable conversation with Nurse Betty, Lydia began giving me dirty looks. Not that I cared much what she did but I guessed, Nurse Betty must have ripped her a new one. Regardless of the fact that she favored Lydia, it was obvious she loved her job more and I felt a little satisfaction at the fact that Lydia was brought down a peg or two.Well, maybe Adriano wasn’t completely useless then.“Why’re you smiling like that?”“Hmm?”Hayley asked again, “You’re smiling as if you just remembered something funny. Care to share?”I shook my head. “It’s nothing important,” I said.“Speaking of something unimportant, have you seen the looks, Lydia has been giving you?” she asked.I nodded in response.“I wonder what crawled up her ass this time,” she murmured.Hayley didn’t know I had a conversation with Nurse Betty. Telling her that would only bring about a series of questions I didn’t have the answers to so I shrugged and said, “Who knows?”“I hope she pulls out th

  • The Don's Innocent Nurse   Chapter 32

Melanie’s POVThe next few days went by pretty smoothly and I felt like I was finally getting a handle on things at work again after the tragic accident.A good number of the victims were still in the ICU but their prognosis looked good so fingers crossed they make it out alive. The ICU has been a revolving door of visitors coming to check on their loved ones and I could see the hope along with the sadness in their eyes during every visit. Then there was having to talk to the visitors when they seemed to be on the verge of a breakdown. At this rate, I might just get a psych degree because nurses had to do most of the grunt work while most of the appreciation went to the doctors.I watched Hayley walking out of a patient’s room with a frown on her face."Is everything okay?" I asked when she got to the nurses' station. She shook her head. “No, my patient is still not getting better and to be honest I don’t think she would.”We knew this would happen. Our hero patient had been in a coma

  • The Don's Innocent Nurse   Chapter 31

Adriano’s POVI wasn’t one to hesitate. In my line of work, the slightest hesitation might very well be the difference between life and death. But here I was, hesitating to answer a single question.“I heard you had a rough day,” I finally said.“Yeah, I did. Is there anything else?”She not only sounded tired but looked at it as well. Her back was hunched and her eyes were already looking droopy which means…“Did I wake you?” I asked. She nodded slowly. Shit I shouldn’t have knocked, but I didn’t want a repeat of the pacing I did yesterday.“I just wanted to make sure you were, okay,” I said.“I’m sure, Alice already told you how I was or better still Ralph must have told you. There was no need to pay a personal visit,” she said.Thank God she was tired because she looked too good in the silk nightwear she had on and I wanted to thank and curse my shopper at the same time for providing them. And her sass only made me want her more but having a hard-on for someone who was practically

  • The Don's Innocent Nurse   Chapter 30

Melanie’s POVAfter my conversation with Alice, I decided to call it a night. Mostly because I was tired but there was also a part of me that wanted to get away from Alice’s questioning eye.Although, she let it go. The look she kept giving me told a different story. It was like she was telling me with her eyes, I’m watching you closely.I thought about foregoing a shower but I touched a lot of blood today and frankly, I was hoping a hot shower would wash away the events of today from my body and I would feel much lighter.I was right. The shower did make me feel better. I changed into the silk nightwear I've come to love and took a quick look at my phone.Smiling when I saw multiple missed calls from my parents. At least this time around, there weren’t multiple text messages from them compared to the last time.I contemplated calling them back but I knew my parents would only continue their assault on my phone tomorrow morning so I called them back. There was only a one-hour time d
