Melanie p.o.v

I groggily opened my eyes to the sound of the basement door creaking open. Last night had been a blur of fitful dozing, my exhaustion warring with my determination to stay vigilant. But despite my best efforts, sleep had eventually claimed me.

As I sat up straight, rubbing the stiffness from my neck, a woman in a crisp maid's uniform descended the stairs.

"Good morning." The woman greeted with a warm smile, her eyes flicked toward me briefly.

She carried a tray laden with steaming dishes, which she carefully set on the small table in front of me. The aroma of freshly brewed hot chocolate and scrambled eggs wafted up, stirring my hunger.

Hot chocolate! My throat instantly waters, that's my favorite drink. What a coincidence that they would serve me that. I thought to myself.

"Breakfast," she announced, her voice soft and detached.

I eyed her warily, unsure if she was friend or foe. "Who are you?"

"I'm Alice, the maid." She replied, her eyes friendly when I stare into them. For some reason she was smiling happily, causing my brows to forrows.

I'm being held hostage and she's smiling like nothing happened?

Her evasiveness sparked my curiosity. Was she another captive, or was she loyal to the mysterious man?

"Are you okay?" She asked quietly, as she place the hot mug of chocolate in my hands. The warmth from the mug circulating through my hand, the fresh smell of cocoa relaxing my tense shoulders unconsciously.

For a fleeting instant, I felt comfortable and at home. But it vanished, replaced by the reality.

"I'm fine," I said, my voice flat. "What time is it?"

"It's eight in the morning." She answered. "I will be outside, call me when you're done." She gave a slight bow before leaving me alone.

The food on the tray looked and smelled appetizing, my appetite was tempted.

"I might as well fill my stomach." I shrug, I'm not going to be stubborn and reject these delicacies because of anger.

Anger that I was held hostage by a criminal, well he can't possibly poison me to death with food, yes?

I began to devour the food, seeing that I didn't have anything to eat last night.

I released a quiet burp after finishing every single thing on the tray, including the jug of hot chocolate and bottle water. Every thing.

"Alice." I called, wondering if she could hear. And... She did, entering the room the next second.

Only this time she came with another maid, a younger maid around my age or so.

"You have a healthy appetite, I see."Alice's smile returned as she collected the empty dishes, and pass the tray to the other maid

I nodded, feeling a slight embarrassment at devouring everything. "I didn't eat last night."

"I'm glad you enjoyed the meal." Her expression softened. She nod for the other maid to leave, but before she left I noticed her gaze flicking around the room, and her hands trembling a bit.

Is she yet another captive? Is he going to turn me into a maid too?

I suddenly became cautious.

"Alice," I whispered, "Who is he?" I asked, my voice barely audible. Fearing that he might just jump out of nowhere.

Alice paused raising a single brow at me.

"The man from yesterday." I tried to explain to her.

"Oh you mean my boss?" She ask and I shrug, he might be. "That's Mr. Adriano Alfonso." Her eyes sparkled with warmth as spoke.

Alfonso! The Alfonso! Adriano Alfonso!

I scream inwardly, my eyes bulging out of their socket. A cold chill flew down my spine, my feet went cold.

"What?" I wasn't asking anyone in particular but Alice took it upon herself to reply me.

"Yes, that's him." She grin as if it wasn't a big deal.

It's a god damn big deal!

He's the infamous Adriano Alfonso for Christ's sake, a man whom even the armed forces feared.

A man who gets away with too many shits, crimes that would have had anyone killed by the law. A man whose nickname is

How the hell did I land myself in his arms, I could have just did what he ask me to do and gone my way.

I've only heard of his name every on the news, he's always the headline, especially after one if his brutal crimes. But never have they published his face, it's always his back to the camera.

So not many people know what he looks like.

"Amusing. Nobody tells me no. Not even Dr. Danny here." His resounding dark chuckle floats in my head.

"Come along, boss want me to take you to your room." Alice voice broke through my inner turmoil.

"Huh?" I ask when her words register in my head.

What? My room? As what, a maid?

"Don't be so frightened." She chuckle as my obvious fear.

Easy for you to say, I scoff to myself.

"Boss allows you to go work, that's why you're going to get ready in your room." She added.

"What?" I screamed out this time. "I can leave?" Almost received, thought I was going to stay here for long.

"Mm, not actually." Alice hesitate.

"What do you mean." The excitement leaving my bloodstream just as they came.

"Boss only allow you to go about your day, that includes going for your intern at the hospital and school. But from here." She said.

I felt the whole world stop after her words, I'm obviously still not free from him.

What have I gotten myself into, I panicked.

I could have refused when they offered me to join the team, I could have come up with a lame excuse then. But no, I wanted to proof myself useful, and now see where I've landed.

A dead end.

  • The Don's Innocent Nurse   Chapter 120

Melanie’s POVEverything still felt so freaking surreal to me.I was in a private jet. A freaking jet! When Adriano carried me into the plane, he set me down on one of the window seats and took the seat right next to me.The pilot came to introduce himself to me before going back to his station while one of the two flight attendants catering to us on this flight came to take our drink order for which I requested a glass of juice.I was already feeling woozy with excitement, there was no need to add alcohol to the mix.The plane was big enough to seat ten people comfortably. Before the flight attendant came back with our drinks, Adriano gave me a quick tour on the plane and I discovered that there was a bedroom at the back with its own en-suite.“In case you want to take a nap,” Adriano said.Who wouldn't want to sleep on a freaking plane with a bed!?“This is the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done to me…”“If you thank me one more time, little nurse, you and I are going to hav

  • The Don's Innocent Nurse   Chapter 119

Melanie’s POV“I’m getting really antsy, Adriano. The curiosity is killing me,” I said from the passenger seat of his car."Just a few more minutes, little nurse," he said.“Can I look a little?” I asked.“Don’t look until I tell you to,” he ordered.I was currently blindfolded, on the way to God knows where. Adriano told me he had a surprise planned and presented me with a blindfold when we got in his car, making me promise not to take it off no matter what unless he explicitly asked me to and I agreed. That felt like hours ago, and riding in a car, unable to see where you were going wasn’t a very nice feeling.Add that to the New York rush hour traffic and the novelty of the surprise wore off pretty quickly and in it’s place, anxiety reared its head.“I’m beginning to lose interest in this surprise of yours,” I said.“Trust me, little nurse. Your interest will come flooding back once you see what I’ve got planned for you,” he replied.“Is it a fancy date?” I asked. “Because I’m obvi

  • The Don's Innocent Nurse   Chapter 118

Adriano’s POVNews of the mayor’s untimely demise took the media by storm.People have been coming up with various conspiracy theories as to what exactly happened. A lot of stories have circulated from it being a terrorist act, to an unpaid gambling debt, even an act of vengeance by a rival political party. One thing was for certain, a lot of fingers were being pointed in different directions and none of them were right.Melanie was also shocked by the news and didn’t hesitate to inform me while we were having dinner last night.“That’s so sad though. I thought as the mayor he would have more protection,” she had said and it took everything in me to keep a straight face.It would surprise her how easy it was to infiltrate the security of most politicians. Besides, it’s not like he was a senator nor was he occupying a high-ranking office.Nik did a good job of making sure he wasn't associated with us in any way. So try as they might, they were never going to find the person that killed

  • The Don's Innocent Nurse   Chapter 117

Melanie’s POV“You can’t just move my things into your room without asking me!” I yelled at the top of my lungs. He smiled. He had the guts to smile at me while I was so mad at him.“I can and I did,” he said simply.I groaned in frustration. We’ve been having this back and forth for about ten minutes now and it seemed like I was talking to a brick wall.“The polite thing to do would have been to talk about this with me, maybe even ask me to move in with you but you made the decision for me and I’m saying you shouldn’t have done that,” I said, slowly emphasizing each word.“I don’t need to ask you to move in with me when you already live with me,” he replied.“That’s not what I meant and you know that!”I'd come home from work to find my room empty. The first thing that came to my mind was that we'd been robbed, then I realized that this place was a fucking fortress and there was no way anyone could think to rob this place without getting thwarted and possibly hurt in the process. So

  • The Don's Innocent Nurse   Chapter 116

Adriano’s POVMelanie seemed a bit tense in the car but since we got here, all that tension seemed to have disappeared. She was having funny with her friend, Hayley, laughing so loud that other patrons turned to give them weird stares but one look from me was enough to make them back away. Also, there was one thing I realized. Melanie couldn’t bowl if her life depended on it.I spent a while giving her lessons on how to hold the ball and position properly before releasing it, but I might as well have wasted my time because she hardly struck more than two pins at a time and that was only if she was lucky enough to strike anything at all.Still, she didn't seem to mind that she was terrible at it and was having fun all the same. Her friend, Hayley wasn't great but was way better than my girl at bowling.Normally, my competitiveness would have reared its ugly head. Yeah, I can fucking recognize my own toxic trait but, Melanie was having so much fun which meant that her ranking clearly di

  • The Don's Innocent Nurse   Chapter 115

Melanie’s POVIt took a while before I left the hospital, my shift ended almost an hour ago which meant I was now working overtime. It also meant I didn't have much time to prepare for tonight's outing but I was definitely going to try.I sent, Adriano a text when I was on my way home telling him I was running a little behind, and then I wondered if he was even home yet.He usually got home later than I did so there was a chance he was still at his office. I could use that to my advantage and blame him for our lateness, I thought with a smile on my face. However, Adriano was already at home when I walked in. He was sitting on one of the couches in the living room, reading something from a tablet in his hand.He raised his head when he saw me though and he smiled.“You’re late, little nurse,” he said and I glared at him.“I am? Maybe that’s because I was busy tending to burn victims all day,” I replied."It wasn't an accusation, little nurse so you can tuck your anger somewhere else,"
