I headed back to my room, dragging my feet and not really looking forward to the work I still had to do. I wasn't feeling motivated at all, but I pushed myself to keep going—mostly out of a sense of responsibility.

Instead of heading to the site, I decided to stay in the office and catch up on some tasks there. Other people were already checking in on the expansion anyway, so I figured no one would really notice I wasn’t there.

I ended up spending the whole day cooped up in the office. I wasn’t even hungry, but I forced myself to eat a quick lunch just so I wouldn’t crash later.

When I heard a knock on the door, I barely had the energy to react. I just gave a small nod to let them in.

To my surprise, it wasn’t my secretary—it was Renzo. Seeing him broke up the dull routine and caught me off guard.

“Ma’am,” he said, breaking the awkward silence. “Sir Marco called earlier. He asked me to check on you and said he was sorry he didn’t get to say goodbye before flying to Russia. He promised

In my head, all I could think was, "I'm sorry. Please forgive me." Over and over again. I wanted so badly to say it to Marco, but he kept avoiding me, and I didn’t know what else to do. Maybe it was pathetic to beg, but I didn’t care. I messed up, and I owned that. I just wanted to make things right.I was still crying hard when the gate opened, barely even noticing it—I figured it was just the guard coming to tell me to leave. But then I heard a voice. “Maddie...”I looked up, tears blurring my vision, and there he was—Marco. He looked heartbroken, just like I felt. The pain on his face hit me like a wave, stirring up everything inside me even more.I got to my feet and walked toward him, tears still streaming down my face, wishing I could stop but not able to.“Marco, I’m so sorry. Let me explain. I would never hurt you—I swear, not in a million years.”“You’re unfair

Marco decided not to go to Russia because he could feel things were off between us. Instead, he came home early, probably hoping we could sit down and talk things out. But what he walked into… I can’t even imagine what he must’ve felt seeing that.Caleb looked around, clearly confused. “Can someone tell me what’s going on?”Renzo just shook his head—he didn’t know either. Mason, seeing how shaken I was, quietly handed me a glass of water. Caleb still looked completely lost.Time kept passing, and I waited, hoping Marco would walk through the door any minute. But the hours dragged on, and still… nothing. I glanced at the clock again. How was he still not home?&

Just as I was about to go after Marco, I heard Hudson call out—and that was it. Rage bubbled up inside me. I turned around and looked him straight in the eye."You have no idea how much I appreciated you, Hudson. You were there for me when everything in my life was falling apart. You and a few close friends stood by me, and I’ll never forget that. I valued you for being there during the darkest time in my life. Even when Marco warned me to stay away from you, I didn’t listen—because you were always kind to me. I saw you as a real friend. I felt like I owed you more than I could ever repay. But now? Now you've crossed a line. You tried to twist our past and use it against me—to ruin what I have with Marco. Lucky for me, I turned you down. We never had a thing, and I thank God for that, because Hudson, you’re nothing compared to Marco. You’re not even close. You’re just… garbage."I didn’t wait for a response. I turned on my heel and walked away, knowing Marco was probably feeling even

Lucille's actions hit me all at once. My mind went blank, and before I even realized what I was doing, I slammed my foot on the gas pedal. I sped straight at Lucille. When she saw the car, her eyes went wide, and she tried to run, but I pushed the accelerator even harder. I hit her, and she rolled over the hood. That wasn’t enough for me, though. I reversed the car, and I could feel it lift, like the wheels were going over an uneven road. I knew exactly what it felt like—her body under the car as I backed over her.Once I was done, I got out of the car, and Renzo followed me, gun in hand. I looked down at Lucille lying there on the road. Blood was pouring from her head, and I noticed her skull was slightly crushed from the car.My shoulders slumped as I realized

I couldn't bring myself to talk to him when his phone rang. He grabbed it quickly and answered.I bit my lip hard, trying to distract myself from the emotional pain I was feeling after everything Marco had said. He didn't even say hi to the person on the other end, just let them talk.Marco suddenly stood up, and the change in his face was immediate as soon as he heard whatever was being said. His brow furrowed, and I could see his jaw tighten."She hasn't gone far. Search the area. She won’t get away. I already shot her in the left foot. Lucille’s moving slow. I’ll be there in a minute. If you find her, don’t hesitate to kill her. She’s no use to me now."When I heard Lucille’s n

Marco stopped what he was doing again, his gaze fixed on me like I’d said something he couldn’t take back.He stood up, his jaw tight. As he walked toward me, I couldn’t help but take a step back, eventually bumping into the console table behind me.“Every time I admit I’m jealous, it pisses you off, doesn’t it?” he shot at me. “You brush it off like it doesn’t matter, like my feelings are nothing. I’ve tried so hard, Maddie. But how am I supposed to deal with this? You keep saying there’s nothing to be jealous of with that guy. So now I just keep it all inside, ‘cause I’m scared you’ll just brush it off again.”His words hit me hard, and I bit my lip, speechless. All the things I had p

I kept checking my phone, waiting for a text from Marco, but nothing came—not even a little dot. I started to feel more and more anxious as time passed."Maria, I'm going to wait for Marco to come home before I eat, so we can have dinner together," I told her.I lay down on the bed, needing a moment to relax, and mindlessly started scrolling through social media. I don't use it much because Marco isn't really active on there. He has accounts, but he barely posts. Most of the Moretti family's accounts are private anyway, only visible to their close friends and family. Then something caught my eye—a My Day post from Gabriele. My curiosity got the best of me, so I clicked on it. At first, I didn't think muc

Watching the Moretti crew at work, I couldn’t help but wonder why we hadn’t just hired them as the main contractor for the expansion in the first place. With the size of their company and the reputation they’ve built, they were more than capable of handling everything without needing outside help to speed things up.Honestly, the success and wealth of Marco’s family businesses could make anyone feel small. They owned everything—hotels, restaurants, logistics companies, hospitals, pharmaceutical brands, and on and on. It felt like no matter how successful someone else was, they’d still look second-rate next to them. But what really stood out to me was how humble they all were. Despite their power and influence, they never acted like they were above anyone. No snide remarks, no arrogance—just q
