I quickly winked at Edwin, indicating for him to stay quiet.

The baby was gone and I did not want Matthew to find out just yet.

Who knew if he would lose it again.

Once I waited a bit, got my health back, found a job, when everything was steady, then I would come clean.

Edwin got the message, but he still looked upset.

I knew he thought Matthew was the worst and that I deserved better.

However, Shirley did not know that. She thought Edwin was judging me for being pregnant and she was smirking with satisfaction.

Edwin glanced at the cardboard box on the floor, and when he saw the broken frame with a picture of me and Matthew, his smile vanished.

"Why keep this junk around?"

I laughed too, and as I walked past the box on the way, I gave it a kick.

"Right. Once you toss out the trash, there’s no need to pick it up again."

With that, I ignored Matthew's scowl and slid into the passenger seat of the Porsche.
