Valerie trudged up to her room, glancing at her smartwatch with a sinking feeling. Late. She was going to be late, for the first time in her entire career. All because of a surly mechanic with an attitude problem who clearly couldn't stand the sight of her.

"This is ridiculous," she muttered, pushing open her bedroom door. She was pissed. Really pissed. And she brought this on herself. Why did she have to be interested in a man who hated her? Of all the men in the world, why him?!

From downstairs, she could hear Clara moving around the kitchen, making preparations for breakfast. Food would be ready soon, and maybe it would improve her mood.

Valerie was just gathering her towel and robe when the front door flew open with a bang, followed by the sound of heels clicking against the floor.

"Yoo-hoo! Val! Where are you, darling?" Karen's voice echoed through the house. "And more importantly, who is that absolute specimen of rugged masculinity pulling out of your driveway in that beat-up tr

  • The Duchess's Game of Seduction   Chapter 79

The Jessica lady was smoothing down her hair, adjusting her clothes in a way that left no doubt about what she'd been doing inside.Valerie felt something cold and vicious unleash in her chest. Jealousy. Pure, burning jealousy that took her completely by surprise with its intensity. She watched Jessica get into a small red car and drive away, her taillights disappearing into the night. Only then did she allow herself to breathe. Her hands were shaking as she got out of her car and walked up the stairs towards Rick's front door. She didn't knock - she pounded, her fist releasing some of the fury building inside her.Rick opened the door, wearing nothing but jeans, his hair disheveled, his lips slightly swollen. The sight of him - obviously fresh from Jessica's bed - made Valerie's vision blur with rage."Valerie?" He looked genuinely surprised to see her. "What are you doing here?""What am I doing here?" she repeated, her voice dangerously quiet. "What do you think I'm doing here?"Ri

Three days later, Valerie sat in the office of her private physician, Dr. Liliana, feeling oddly nervous despite knowing exactly what the results would show."Everything looks perfect, as expected," Dr. Liliana said, sliding the sealed envelope across the desk. "Your test results are completely clean. No concerns whatsoever."Valerie nodded, picking up the envelope with hands that trembled slightly. She'd known this would be the outcome - her conquests always submitted their medical records to Melissa before anything happened. But having the official documentation in her hands made everything feel more real."Thank you, Dr. Liliana," she said, shoving the envelope into her bag."Of course. And Valerie?" The older woman called "If you ever need to talk about anything - relationships, intimacy, whatever - I'm here. Sometimes physical health and emotional health are more connected than we realize."Valerie forced a smile. "I'm fine. Really."But as she left the medical building, her mind

Valerie opened her mouth, but no words came out. She was drowning in his eyes, lost in the intensity of his gaze, and for a moment she forgot what she wanted to say. The air between them crackled with tension, and she felt her mouth going dry with lack of words. Rick had to clear his throat before she caught herself, blinking rapidly as reality crashed back in."How... how are you doing?" she asked weakly, immediately cringing at how pathetic she sounded."I'm fine," he replied curtly, his voice giving nothing away. She nodded, fidgeting with her hands. "And work? How's work going?"Rick's jaw tightened, and something dangerous flashed in his green eyes. "Is that why you came here, Valerie? To make small talk about my job?"His voice was sharp enough to cut glass, and she flinched. He wasn't going to make this easier for her, she realized. Not even a little bit."No," she said quickly, taking a shaky breath. "I came to apologize. About that morning, I mean. I shouldn't have spoken to

*One Week Later*Valerie sat stiffly behind her desk, her fingers drumming against it's surface as Melissa read out the day's itinerary. Her day was packed with streams of meetings, conference calls, and business decisions - events that should've kept her so focused and preoccupied.Yet, every spare moment between appointments was filled with memories of Rick and the way he had looked at her that final morning."Your 2 PM with the Benjamin Group has been moved to 3:30," Melissa continued, her voice a distant hum in Valerie's ears. "And the staff meeting is scheduled for...""Fine, whatever," Valerie cut her off, waving a dismissive hand. "Just... handle it."Melissa paused, her eyebrows raising slightly in concern."Ma'am, are you feeling alright? You seem stressed...""I'm fine," Valerie snapped, then immediately softened her tone. "I'm sorry, Melissa. I'm just tired. That's all."But she wasn't tired. She was tormented. Every night for the past week, she'd lain awake replaying that

Valerie's eyes fluttered open to the soft morning light streaming in from the window. For a moment, she felt disoriented, her body deliciously sore in places that reminded her of last night. Then reality crashed back - Rick. They'd actually done it. He'd actually dedicated his time giving her the most incredible night of her life. She turned her head, expecting to find the sheets empty beside her, but there he was, his dark hair tousled against the white pillow, his breathing deep and even in sleep. Her heart did something strange - a little flutter that she quickly suppressed. This was not supposed to happen. Rick was never meant to stay. His constant cold attitude towards her was enough to send him running, especially after she'd gotten what she wanted from him.But yet, here he was. Shocking her into silence once again. She propped herself up on her elbow, studying his face in the morning light. His strong jaw was relaxed, the usual cold lines gone from his features. His thick lash

"You look so beautiful tonight," Rick whispered against her ear, his thumb tracing gentle circles on her cheekbones."You're lying," she said softly, her whole body now trembling to his touch."But you are, and you know it." His voice was barely above a whisper as his fingers tangled in her disheveled hair. Valerie's breath caught in her throat at the feeling of his hands in her hair. No! She wouldn't give in to him so easily, not after what he just did. She knew she'd been acting so shamelessly lately, and her pride was long gone, but she couldn't overlook this. She freed herself from his heavenly hands and took a step back. "What held you up?" She demanded again. The least she deserved was an explanation."I told you, it's nothing important.""NOTHING IMPORTANT can't keep you away for over an hour. You couldn't even pick my calls or reply to my texts."Rick sighed, taking a step and covering the small space between them."Do you want to focus on what held me up or should we get do
