As the five guys lunged towards the tall figure, who was initially supposed to be the hero for the night, sheer courage immediately surged within Sean. He didn't understand why, nor did he have an idea of how. The only thing he knew was that he needed to save that person.
I need to do something, or else he is going to get beaten to death.
Sean wrecked his brain, trying his best to come with a smart idea to save the situation. His eyes began scanning the area to seek for something that could be used as a weapon. His gaze fell upon the back of a dumpster, where an old baseball bat was lying there.
Okay, this will do, Sean thought to himself as he rushed to pick it up.
If and only if life couldn't get any funnier, the bat's hand was coated with an oily substance leaking from household waste bags nearby, making it slip from Sean's grasp several times.
"Come on, Mr. Baseball bat. Someone is going to die!" Sean complained while struggling to hold the bat up.
Frustration started to get the best of him that he couldn't hear any sound besides the rattling sound of the bat falling and rolling on the cold ground. After several more failed attempts, he finally came up with an idea to deal with the struggle.
Taking off his outer shirt, Sean wrapped his shirt around the bat and tried to pick it up again.
This time, he succeeded.
Taking a deep breath, Sean swirled, raised the bat, and screamed on top of his lungs as he charged forwards to where the fight took place.
"Yah!"
However, the sight that greeted him was something totally unanticipated. Instead of seeing the tall guy lay prone on the ground, looking beaten, Tim's gang took this role, for they were rolling and groaning in pain.
Sean's jaw dropped open at what he witnessed before he directed his eyes to the last two standing people, only to find his eccentric savor's face was blocked by a built body that was kicking his feet aimlessly in the air as his body was dangling off the ground.
Tim was hanging by the neck, strangling to be precise, by none other than the one he had just made fun of.
"Hey, you. Stop!" Sean dropped the bat and ran towards them. Despite the lack of light, he could still tell Tim's face was turning purple due to suffocation.
He's going to be a murderer! A warning exploded inside Sean's head.
"Stop. You're killing him!" Sean yelled and tapped the arm of the one in a silver robe as if to put some senses back into him.
"This one deserves to die." A cold voice escaped the tall figure's lips. His eyes still focused on Tim, ignoring the panic Sean next to him.
Sean swore he could feel goosebumps running down his spine upon hearing the emotionless tone and deadly glare, although he knew he wasn't the target. Nevertheless, the sound of fingers digging deeper into the flesh woke him up from his disquietude. "Stop. You don't get to decide that. Leave it to the police!"
Still, no matter what Sean said, the other guy didn't seem to heed, leaving him no choice but to take action. Moving his hands away from the forearms, Sean tried to pry the stiff fingers open to allow some air for Tim to breathe.
Unfortunately, he was no match in strength, for the taller guy's fingers wouldn't even budge no matter what. Tim's face was getting purplish. His eyes were about to roll back, making Sean's worry pile up.
"Sorry, but you leave me with no choice," Sean murmured an apology at the tall figure.
*slap*
The moment a palm came into contact with a cheek, the tall guy in blonde widened his eyes in shock, releasing his grip in the process, causing Tim to fall with a thud, violently coughing and gasping for air.
"Come on!"
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Sean grabbed the tall guy by the wrist and dashed out of the alley into the big street with rows of street lights. He only dared to stop and catch his breath when he saw a police station not more than a hundred steps away.
Sean almost forgot he had a person in tow until the other presence made himself known by jerking the hand away from his grasp.
"How dare you filthy creature touch me? It's disgusting!"
Sean turned to glare at the one behind him, only to find himself rendered speechless. With enough streetlights, he was in awe by the ethereal beauty of his savor, who was standing before him.
Everything about the tall guy, ranging from his clothes to his accessories, looked exquisitely exorbitant. As for his body, he was gifted in packages 一slender fingers, smooth skin, flawless jawline, rosy lips, pointed nose, bluish-grey eyes, and...pointed ears?!
What kind of human has pointed ears? Sean's monologue popped up at the back of his head as he stared at the too-handsome-to-be-real figure up and down.
"If you servant dares to stare at me any longer, I'll have those eyes of yours plucked out and throw them to the ground."
A nasty one! Sean rolled his eyes. Wait. What did he call me?
Unable to contain his curiosity any longer, he asked, "What did you just call me?"
"Mortals are always mortals. Weak." answered the tall figure with a sigh.
"Hang on! I heard that clearly, okay? I want to confirm since no one around here ever speaks the way you do."
Sean stood with his arms akimbo, glaring at the so-called rude and eccentric person he had ever met.
"Of course, how can I be compared to anyone? Not to mention mere mortals here," he simpered, making every word and action get on Sean's nerves.
"Well then, Mr. Self-important. Who exactly are you that made you think you are unparalleled in this whole California?"
With a smirk and a handsome one at that, the tall figure lifted his chin and looked down at Sean before proudly presenting himself with a voice full of pride and authority.
"I'm Oswin Alvingham, the king of the elf."
Sean's jaw dropped open. He used his fingers to clean his eardrums before asking again. "Err...Who did you say you were?"

"Hey." A deep voice echoed throughout the room. When the voice's owner didn't receive the reaction he wanted, he repeated—this time, with the company of his foot kicking the sofa. "Hey, servant. Wake up."Sean stirred in his sleep, trying to block the noise away from penetrating his eardrums. It took him quite a while last night to adjust and fell asleep in this constricted area, yet he is now being woken up by none other than the person who has caused his misery in the first place."What?" he replied with a hoarse voice; his eyes remained closed, for he didn't want to answer at first. But judging from the relentless kick, he knew ignoring wouldn't be practical."I'm hungry."Seriously?! This guy! Just because he saved me, he thinks he
"What is that weird-looking, colorful but kinda brown little thing?”Sean looked between the elf king and the food he placed in puzzlement. His eyes widened, and his jaws dropped open, allowing at least tons of insects to fly in if they were interested. “Huh?”
Sean's shadow cast shorter on the pavement when he walked to his workplace, for the sun was up relatively higher than usual. Even before he left home, he knew he was going to be late. However, he didn't want to remind himself of the reason why. If he were to think back, he would lose not only his mood but also his mind.Despite having a giant figure who might have consumed half the space of his shoe-box apartment, it looked no different to him that he was dealing with a three-year-old who knew nothing better to do than ask questions.Seriously, did he live in the cave back then? Did he just come out from a thousand-year meditation? Sean thought to himself.Like his feet

The clinking sound of the ring against the metal bar, followed by the rustling sound of the fabric echoes near the end corner of a second-clothes shop as Oswin drew the beige curtain closed. Not long after, the same sound reverberated again as he stepped out of the fitting room, dressed in loose black pants that barely reached his ankles and a stoic cactus print woven button-down shirt."The pants are too short. The shirt doesn’t suit you. Next," said Sean. The curtain continually draws open and closed by the same person. In front of the small fitting room, Sean was sitting with his ankle propped on one knee and leaned back on the chair, clearly finding amusement in the busy curtain."Too tight. Another," he commanded when Oswin came out with another set of clothes.
Sean couldn't stop the butterflies in his stomach. Despite being Oswin's personal trainer in waitressing and acknowledging his completion, he couldn't help but worry. Even if he could somehow guarantee Oswin's temper, which he would monitor every minute, he couldn't say the same about the customer's temperament. What if the first customer that walked through the door was a gangster? A mafia? Or, to put it simply, the most aggressive customer on Earth? Would Oswin be able to withstand it? He sighed as millions of worse scenarios were running through his head. All he was praying today was to have everything go smoothly."Sean, what's with the sigh? Worry about your relative?" James came up from behind and put his hand on the younger man's shoulder."Yes, bo
"Excuse me, sir, you'll have to wait in line." said a gentle-face boy, holding a board of customers' waitlist."Why do I have to wait in line? I see that table over there is free anyway," said a guy in a grey T-shirt and light blue jeans. A three-day-old beard and mustache covered his oblong face-shaped, making his dark brown Asian eyes and the whole complexion more intimidating."No, sir. We're cleaning it for the next customer whose name is on the list here," replied the boy while pointing to a clipboard in his hand. "You need to register your name and wait for me to call you when it's your turn. Just like those—"."Oy, so noisy. Why does a waiter here talk so much? Did he not get trained?" said the young guy in a similar facial structure as the one from before, but with a clear and smooth jawl
