Nikola POV
I followed the trail until I hit a main road where I could still smell the exhaust from the vehicle that took them. My anger was out of control. My mind running wild with how they were able to get away with her so quickly without making a noise.
I ran back to Roni’s house linking the pack members searching for her. Peter was sending out search parties to known vampire locations. I did my best to fix the broken door before cleaning the glass that was in Roni’s Jeep.
An hour later Torvi and Jessie arrived at the house. I felt horrible. I needed to explain to them that their mother was kidnapped. Torvi approached me in the living room after Jessie got in the shower. I was sure
Nikola POV Sunday morning came too quickly. The wolves had no luck finding Veronica. After I informed Peter about my conversation with the woman at Theo’s house; he advised me to wait it out. My wolf hadn’t stopped stirring. Feelings Veronica’s emotions quiver through the bond caused me to rarely get any sleep. “Good morning, Niko.” Torvi said entering the living room. “You know Mama would tell you to sleep in the bed and not on the couch.” “I wanted to be closer to the door in case she came back.” I admitted part of the truth. I was barely able to go in her room. Her scent filled the house sti
Veronica POV “Roni, what is it?” Nikola said as his anger and confusion rose. “Theo just gave me a lot of information. I am just not sure what to make of it yet.” I said this time taking a step towards him and taking his hand in mine. I still wanted his touch, needed it even. I took a deep breath, trying to figure out how to truly sense everything he was feeling. When I asked him my questions, I needed proof that he was answering honestly. Though I was beginning not to trust myself. “When did you learn I was your mate?” I asked coldly. &nb
Veronica POV “Mama! Are you ready?! Theo is outside with Nikola so you better hurry!” Torvi yelled from the front door. I came rushing out of the bedroom stumbling in my boots not used to the 2-inch heels. My dress was a silver/grey that went to my mid-thigh. My black jacket was in my left hand as my right held my braid together. “I need a hair-tie!” I said flustered. “Here, now let’s go before they get into an argument, AGAIN!” Torvi said loud enough for them both to hear. Over the last 6 weeks the two
Nikola POV I watched as Roni walked along side of Theo. If I tried, I would have been able to hear them. I needed to distract myself from my jealousy. Since Theo kidnapped my mate, he has been hard to shake. I knew he wouldn’t cross the line, something inside me was assuring, like he wouldn’t have to. Roni’s strength and confidence had grown. She was beginning to speak her mind immediately, no longer holding back. I loved her more every day. As my love grew, my worry and own insecurities grew. “Did you see that?” Jessie said angry. “You should just go knock him out, vampire or not.” “You
Veronica POV Today is moving day. After living in the townhouse for the last 8 weeks I was happy for the change. Nikola had worked so hard on the house before meeting me, it seemed like a waste to not occupy it. I hadn’t made the trip since Torvi graduated 2 weeks ago. I was anxious to see what Nikola had accomplished. With all the ‘off the books’ research Nikola and I had been doing, we reduced our office hours to Tuesday and Thursdays. I didn’t think commuting 2 days a week would be very difficult, plus I had the best co-pilot. Jessie and Torvi both agreed to commute from the new location as well. Christmas is in a few days so all of us are on holiday for the time being. Theo seemed to be on edge lately. He had expressed concern with us living on the pack land, not trusting the wolves. Nikola had been working on an exception for a vampir
Veronica POV As Tovi and Jessie’s footsteps grew further away, I began to feel dizzy. A sharp pain in my abdomen caused me to take a sharp breath in. Nikola sensing my distress, spoke but I was not able to make out what it was. The pain in my stomach pulsed again this time causing heat to spread outward. My boiling blood caused me to cry out. I threw myself from Nikola’s tight grasp as my body convulsed. I managed a few words with no idea if Nikola heard me. Blood on fire, pain, what’s happening may have also been asked. “Roni!” I finally heard his voice and slowly began to force myself to breath. &nb
Nikola POV Veronica and I walked into the house from the back porch. She wore my jacket beautifully. I took the blanket from near the fire to cover myself. There was no way to know if Torvi and Jessie had returned. My stepdad sat in the living room. “I hope you are feeling better now dear.” Don opened; Roni blushed. “How is this possible?” I asked calmly. “She must have a wolf ancestor. I believe when you marked her, she would have shifted at the following full moon. The magic that was performed to break your bond, it prevented the shift from taking place.”
Veronica POV The trip off the pack lands seemed to take forever rather than the quick 10-minute trip I had gotten used to. I began to think of it as a long driveway. Nikola was naturally upset when I had requested to speak with my vampire bestie. I tried to stay silent in the car, I attempted to drive myself and was quickly denied. When Nikola said I could send a message where and when to meet I was relieved. I thought he would’ve tried to refuse my request. I watched him carefully out of the corner of my eye. It seemed like he was having an internal battle, so I decided to pry. “Are you upset I am a wolf too now?” I asked quietly but loud enough he could hear. By the sound of his hear
