Chapter 3

Autor: Freya
When I returned to the research institute, I suddenly realized there were far more werewolves here than usual.

The auditorium in particular was packed.

The crowd was mostly made up of young faces. They were all excitedly discussing something.

I was carrying a stack of documents and trying to get to the research room, but the crowd had blocked the entrance to the lobby.

"Mr. Blake is here! Hurry, let's go take a look!"

"I heard the topic of his speech is the latest research on wolf spirit trauma recovery. It's incredible!"

"Is that the Blood Moon Pack's healer, Mia, standing beside him? I heard she was mainly responsible for the research!"

My footsteps came to a halt.

That's when I recalled that Fenrir had invested in research within the healing industry. He was probably here because of that.

I looked up and through the gaps in the crowd.

Fenrir and Mia were standing in the interview area onstage.

Fenrir was dressed in an impeccably tailored suit. He looked tall and strikingly handsome.

Mia stood slightly behind him. She was smiling gently.

She glanced at him, pulled a tie from her pocket, and naturally put it around Fenrir's neck.

Soft gasps rippled through the crowd.

Fenrir naturally leaned closer to Mia. It was as if he didn't see anything inappropriate about it.

A reporter immediately held a microphone out to him. "Mr. Blake, I've heard that you and Ms. Lovegood work extremely well together. This research is incredibly significant to the werewolf community. Could you tell us what it's been like working with her?"

Fenrir turned slightly and glanced at Mia. There was a gentle smile on his lips that I rarely saw.

"Mia is my mother's most prized apprentice and the best healer in the healer's den. Her contribution to the success of this research was indispensable."

Fenrir's voice carried clearly through the crowd.

"She's not only our pack's healer, but also an indispensable assistant in my career. She's meticulous and focused. I've always believed that Betas tend to have more talent in the healing industry than Alphas because their perception is more sensitive."

The reporter chuckled. "Mr. Blake, you're speaking so highly of Ms. Lovegood. Aren't you worried people might get the wrong idea?"

Fenrir smiled. "There's nothing to get the wrong idea about. I have a mate."

My grip tightened around the documents in my hands.

He didn't say anything more. He didn't even say my name.

After telling everyone he had a mate, he immediately shifted the conversation back to the research.

Mia stood beside him and smiled. Her cheeks turned red.

Whispers began spreading through the crowd.

"Does Mr. Blake actually have a mate? Who is she?"

"I don't know. I've never heard him mention her."

"I bet it's Ms. Lovegood. Look at how perfect they look together."

I didn't want to hear any more. I turned around and walked away.

I'd once thought I didn't need him to publicly acknowledge me. I didn't need him to prove our relationship to anyone.

Being his fated mate and staying by his side had been enough to make me happy.

But when I saw him standing beside Mia, praising her without the slightest hesitation, I finally understood that perhaps, in his mind, I wasn't even worth mentioning.

'It's okay, Ellia!' I silently comforted myself. 'Three days from now, everything about Fenrir will have nothing to do with you.'

When I returned home that evening, Fenrir was reading through some documents in the living room.

The moment he heard me come in, he questioned me without even looking up. "Why are you home so late again?"

"I was at the research institute." I was too tired to explain myself.

"Okay." He lowered his head and continued reading the documents in his hands. "By the way, our marking ceremony is in three days. Mom said she wants to help us choose the restaurant and venue. Let's go back to the main residence this weekend."

"Okay."

"Also–" He turned to another page. "I asked Mia to help with the arrangements. She has a great eye for aesthetics, and she's very familiar with the ceremony procedures."

"Okay."

He finally looked up at me. There was a hint of confusion in his eyes. "Why did you agree so quickly? Don't you have anything to ask? When did you become so obedient?"

I looked at him calmly. "I trust Mia's abilities. Besides, you've always thought very highly of her, haven't you?"

"But–" It seemed like he wanted to say something.

"It's late." I cut him off and headed for the bedroom. "I need to sleep. Please don't disturb me."

  • The End of My Waiting   Chapter 9

I was woken by a phone call in the middle of the night."Ms. Levington? The Alpha's condition is very serious. His wolf spirit is almost fading, but he keeps calling your name. He may not have much time left. Do you want to come see him one last time?"I remained silent for several seconds before reluctantly getting dressed.I really didn't want to go.When I arrived at the healer's den, Fenrir was lying on a hospital bed. His complexion was indeed poor, but his condition wasn't nearly as serious as what I'd been told over the phone. The moment he saw me walk in, his eyes lit up. "Ellia, you came."I stood next to the bed without sitting down. "They said you were dying. Did you deliberately have them lie to me?"He didn't answer. His eyes simply began darting around nervously.I understood immediately and turned around to leave."Don't be so childish. I was just afraid I'd never see you again." He grabbed my hand, and his voice trembled as he pleaded. "Ellia, please. Give me a

Winter in the northern territory felt endless. My work at the institute kept me busy. Every day, I worked on uncovering and restoring ancient structures left behind in the northern territory, translating old manus, and occasionally participating in cross-pack conferences. No one here criticized me for spending my days with books and rocks. Instead, they respectfully called me 'Professor Ellia.'It was fulfilling and satisfying. My injuries were still slowly healing. The trauma caused by the severed mate bond ran deep.Sometimes, I'd wake suddenly in the middle of the night. My chest ached so badly that I could barely breathe. But most of the time, I could feel myself healing.Leaving Fenrir had been the right choice for my wolf spirit. As a result, my recovery began to accelerate. The small apartment Mario had rented for me was warm and cozy.Whenever the sun came out, its light would fill the apartment. In my free time, I'd visit the old bookstores around town and hunt for

  • The End of My Waiting   Chapter 7

The night of the full moon arrived.Without Ellia's soothing presence, Fenrir's injured wolf spirit became unusually volatile. He dropped to his knees in agony, and a low growl escaped from his mouth. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't suppress it.Sweat soaked through his shirt, and eventually, he collapsed onto the floor. He was completely exhausted. The excruciating pain gradually clouded his consciousness.Amid the endless darkness and torment, Fenrir began desperately missing Ellia. He missed the gentle, reassuring way Ellia used to calm him.If none of those things had happened, they would've already completed our marking ceremony.Consumed by regret, Fenrir eventually lost consciousness. When Wendy and Mia arrived at the apartment, they found Fenrir with his clothes disheveled, his face pale, and his entire body looking utterly worn down.Wendy cried out in shock. "Oh my goodness! Fenrir, how did you end up like this?""What are you doing here?" Fenrir struggle

From Fenrir's point of view, there was nothing he could say or do to stop the bond-severing.The next moment, the bond was severed completely.Fenrir could no longer hold on. His vision went black, and he passed out. When he woke again, he was lying on a bed in the healer's den and surrounded by healers.Mia was trying to force pills into his mouth while Wendy watched him anxiously.A nurse was pressing down on his chest while trying to calm his wolf spirit.Fenrir refused to give up. He tried once again to establish a mind-link connection with me, but he couldn't feel anything. It felt like a part of his chest had been hollowed out. The bond that connected him to me was gone.It was completely severed. Not even the slightest trace of its presence remained. His wolf spirit was howling in agony deep within his consciousness while desperately trying to find that bond again."Fenrir, your wolf spirit is tearing itself apart!" Wendy's expression was grim. "What happened?""It wa

Over the next few days, I didn't initiate a single conversation with Fenrir. I completely treated him as if he were invisible.Strangely enough, it didn't make me feel bad at all. That lasted until the night before our marking ceremony. It was also the night before my scheduled bond-severing.A frantic ringtone came from the living room and woke me.My hearing was exceptionally sharp.Through the half-closed bedroom door, I immediately heard the voice from the next room."Mia? What's wrong?" There was unmistakable urgency in Fenrir's voice.I lay quietly on the bed in the bedroom and listened. From the other end of the phone, I vaguely heard Mia's trembling, tearful voice. "Fenrir, I'm behind the healer's den. There's a rogue–""Don't move! I'm coming!" Fenrir's footsteps were hurried and chaotic. He didn't even have time to get properly dressed. He grabbed his coat and threw it on as he rushed outside. He slammed into the door but didn't seem to feel it.What happened to hi

That weekend, we returned to the main residence.Fenrir was the pack's Alpha, and technically, I still had no right to refuse him.Fenrir's mother, Wendy Blake, was waiting at the door. The moment she saw Fenrir get out of the car, her face lit up with a smile. "Fenrir, we've been waiting for you."When she saw me behind him, her smile faded slightly. "Ellia's here too."I used to care deeply about her attitude toward me, but now, all I wanted was to brush it off and leave.I hummed nonchalantly in response and followed them inside.Mia was already sitting on the couch in the living room. She had on a light purple dress. Her hair was styled perfectly. Clearly, she'd taken great care with her appearance. When she saw Fenrir, she stood up and beamed with a smile. "Fenrir, you're here."Wendy took Mia's hand and sat down beside her. "Mia, come here. Take a look at this."Wendy retrieved a photo album. "This is one of the venues for the marking ceremony.
