Chapter 4

Autor: Freya
That weekend, we returned to the main residence.

Fenrir was the pack's Alpha, and technically, I still had no right to refuse him.

Fenrir's mother, Wendy Blake, was waiting at the door.

The moment she saw Fenrir get out of the car, her face lit up with a smile. "Fenrir, we've been waiting for you."

When she saw me behind him, her smile faded slightly. "Ellia's here too."

I used to care deeply about her attitude toward me, but now, all I wanted was to brush it off and leave.

I hummed nonchalantly in response and followed them inside.

Mia was already sitting on the couch in the living room.

She had on a light purple dress. Her hair was styled perfectly. Clearly, she'd taken great care with her appearance.

When she saw Fenrir, she stood up and beamed with a smile. "Fenrir, you're here."

Wendy took Mia's hand and sat down beside her. "Mia, come here. Take a look at this."

Wendy retrieved a photo album. "This is one of the venues for the marking ceremony. What do you think of this garden?"

Mia flipped through the album while nodding from time to time. "This one is beautiful. Fenrir, what do you think?"

Fenrir lowered his head to look. "Yeah. Not bad."

"I think this one is better." Mia pointed to another photo. "The lighting is good, and there's plenty of space. It's also close to the healer's den, so it'll be more convenient if anything unexpected happens."

Wendy clapped joyfully. "Mia really does think things through. Ellia, what do you think?"

I looked up. All three of them were staring at me.

"Either one is fine," I said.

Wendy didn't look very pleased, but she said nothing and continued discussing the arrangements with Mia.

Fenrir occasionally chipped in with a comment or two, but most of the time, he simply listened.

His gaze was fixed on Mia. He showed a level of patience and gentleness I rarely saw.

I stood off to the side and watched Wendy hold Mia's hand as they sat on the couch while Fenrir sat on Mia's other side.

The three of them naturally formed a little circle.

It was such an ironic sight.

After dinner, Wendy brought out Mia's favorite scones. "Here, Mia. This is your favorite."

"Thank you, Mrs. Blake!" Mia took the plate and naturally handed a piece to Fenrir. "You should try one too."

Fenrir didn't like anything sweet. I knew that.

Last Christmas, I'd bought a box of candy. Just because I'd gotten some of the sweet scent on me, he hadn't come near me for the entire day.

But now, he merely frowned before taking the scone under Mia's expectant gaze. He took a bite and said, "Yeah. It's good."

Mia smiled happily. "I knew you'd like it."

I completely lost my appetite. I put down my fork and got up. I headed outside into the yard for some air.

Footsteps soon came from behind me.

It was Fenrir.

"Ellia," Fenrir called after me. He then asked with a frown, "What's gotten into you lately?"

"Nothing."

"You're obviously upset with me. Ever since I asked you to help me with my tie last time, you've been acting strange. Is it because you think I haven't been spending enough time with you?"

There was even a hint of guilt in his voice.

I turned around and looked at him calmly. "Fenrir, sometimes I think you and Mia look more like fated mates than we do."

"You're talking nonsense again." His voice turned cold. "You know perfectly well that Mia and I grew up together. I've told you countless times that she was attacked by a rogue when she was young.

"It's perfectly normal for me to give her a little extra care. Can you stop being so sensitive?"

When I remained silent, Fenrir seemed to grow irritated. "Think whatever you want. It's cold out here. Get back inside!"

With that, he went back into the house.

Right then, my phone buzzed. It was a message from Mario. He had found me a new place to live.

I looked at the sun-filled house in the photos, and my heart finally felt a little more at ease.

In just a few more days, I would be able to leave all of this behind.

  • The End of My Waiting   Chapter 9

I was woken by a phone call in the middle of the night."Ms. Levington? The Alpha's condition is very serious. His wolf spirit is almost fading, but he keeps calling your name. He may not have much time left. Do you want to come see him one last time?"I remained silent for several seconds before reluctantly getting dressed.I really didn't want to go.When I arrived at the healer's den, Fenrir was lying on a hospital bed. His complexion was indeed poor, but his condition wasn't nearly as serious as what I'd been told over the phone. The moment he saw me walk in, his eyes lit up. "Ellia, you came."I stood next to the bed without sitting down. "They said you were dying. Did you deliberately have them lie to me?"He didn't answer. His eyes simply began darting around nervously.I understood immediately and turned around to leave."Don't be so childish. I was just afraid I'd never see you again." He grabbed my hand, and his voice trembled as he pleaded. "Ellia, please. Give me a

Winter in the northern territory felt endless. My work at the institute kept me busy. Every day, I worked on uncovering and restoring ancient structures left behind in the northern territory, translating old manus, and occasionally participating in cross-pack conferences. No one here criticized me for spending my days with books and rocks. Instead, they respectfully called me 'Professor Ellia.'It was fulfilling and satisfying. My injuries were still slowly healing. The trauma caused by the severed mate bond ran deep.Sometimes, I'd wake suddenly in the middle of the night. My chest ached so badly that I could barely breathe. But most of the time, I could feel myself healing.Leaving Fenrir had been the right choice for my wolf spirit. As a result, my recovery began to accelerate. The small apartment Mario had rented for me was warm and cozy.Whenever the sun came out, its light would fill the apartment. In my free time, I'd visit the old bookstores around town and hunt for

The night of the full moon arrived.Without Ellia's soothing presence, Fenrir's injured wolf spirit became unusually volatile. He dropped to his knees in agony, and a low growl escaped from his mouth. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't suppress it.Sweat soaked through his shirt, and eventually, he collapsed onto the floor. He was completely exhausted. The excruciating pain gradually clouded his consciousness.Amid the endless darkness and torment, Fenrir began desperately missing Ellia. He missed the gentle, reassuring way Ellia used to calm him.If none of those things had happened, they would've already completed our marking ceremony.Consumed by regret, Fenrir eventually lost consciousness. When Wendy and Mia arrived at the apartment, they found Fenrir with his clothes disheveled, his face pale, and his entire body looking utterly worn down.Wendy cried out in shock. "Oh my goodness! Fenrir, how did you end up like this?""What are you doing here?" Fenrir struggle

From Fenrir's point of view, there was nothing he could say or do to stop the bond-severing.The next moment, the bond was severed completely.Fenrir could no longer hold on. His vision went black, and he passed out. When he woke again, he was lying on a bed in the healer's den and surrounded by healers.Mia was trying to force pills into his mouth while Wendy watched him anxiously.A nurse was pressing down on his chest while trying to calm his wolf spirit.Fenrir refused to give up. He tried once again to establish a mind-link connection with me, but he couldn't feel anything. It felt like a part of his chest had been hollowed out. The bond that connected him to me was gone.It was completely severed. Not even the slightest trace of its presence remained. His wolf spirit was howling in agony deep within his consciousness while desperately trying to find that bond again."Fenrir, your wolf spirit is tearing itself apart!" Wendy's expression was grim. "What happened?""It wa

Over the next few days, I didn't initiate a single conversation with Fenrir. I completely treated him as if he were invisible.Strangely enough, it didn't make me feel bad at all. That lasted until the night before our marking ceremony. It was also the night before my scheduled bond-severing.A frantic ringtone came from the living room and woke me.My hearing was exceptionally sharp.Through the half-closed bedroom door, I immediately heard the voice from the next room."Mia? What's wrong?" There was unmistakable urgency in Fenrir's voice.I lay quietly on the bed in the bedroom and listened. From the other end of the phone, I vaguely heard Mia's trembling, tearful voice. "Fenrir, I'm behind the healer's den. There's a rogue–""Don't move! I'm coming!" Fenrir's footsteps were hurried and chaotic. He didn't even have time to get properly dressed. He grabbed his coat and threw it on as he rushed outside. He slammed into the door but didn't seem to feel it.What happened to hi
