Chapter 2

Author: Freya
I spent the entire night sitting on the couch.

The next morning, Fenrir got up and saw me.

He merely gave me a puzzled glance. There wasn't a word of concern or greeting.

It was exactly as I'd expected.

After washing up, Fenrir picked up his tie as usual and walked over to me.

He opened his arms wide. "Ellia, come here. Help me with my tie."

I looked at him coldly and said nothing.

When I didn't react, he grew somewhat impatient.

His gaze then landed on the documents I'd left on the table.

They were the research materials on ancient architecture preservation that I'd been reading the night before.

"I told you a long time ago. Stop wasting your time messing around with rocks. What's the point of studying this stuff?" He asked unhurriedly. "You're going to be our Luna. You should learn something that can actually contribute to the pack. At the very least, you should learn how to tie an Alpha's tie."

As he spoke, he held the tie out toward me again.

"Looks like I'm really not a qualified Luna. Why don't you ask the Moon Goddess to choose someone else for you?" I sneered. "Someone like Mia, perhaps."

"Oh, Mia." Fenrir smiled. It was as if hearing her name alone made him happy. "She's really amazing. Her healing ability has solved so many problems for me."

When I remained silent, he continued speaking. "Mom was right. Maybe you really should learn healing skills from Mia. At least that's something useful to the pack."

I looked up at him. This was the Alpha that the Moon Goddess had chosen for me.

For five years, he'd never once asked why I'd chosen this career. He'd never asked what went through my mind when I restored those crumbling stones. He'd also never asked whether I was happy.

"Preserving ancient architecture is about protecting and restoring the history of Blood Moon Pack. Fenrir, taking responsibility doesn't only mean staying in the healer's den and smelling disinfectant all day," I said.

I sighed. I felt utterly exhausted. "Fenrir, just go. There's nothing left for us to talk about."

Fenrir clearly hadn't expected me to be so cold. His expression darkened completely. "Ellia, you're absolutely impossible."

He stood there for a few seconds before suddenly throwing his tie onto the floor and storming out.

The windows in the apartment rattled softly from the force of the slamming door.

The next second, my phone chimed. It was an email.

I opened it. It was a reply from Mario, and his excitement was obvious.

[Ellia, I'm so excited that you've finally agreed to come! I promise that your talents are exactly what Northern Pack needs. You're welcome to join us at any time.]

I put down my phone. My mood had lifted after receiving the news.

Of course, before I met with Mario, there was one important thing I needed to take care of.

That afternoon, I went to the werewolf council hall.

After hearing why I'd come, the elder responsible for severing bonds asked me repeatedly, "Ellia, do you understand what this means? Severing a mate bond will cause tremendous pain. Your wolf spirit may be torn apart, and it could take months or even years to recover. There is even a chance that–"

"I can bear the consequences." I interrupted him.

"You're not the only one who will suffer. The Alpha will suffer too. His wolf spirit will be severely damaged because the bond is being forcibly severed."

"That's what he deserves." My gaze was cold. There wasn't a trace of mercy in it.

The elder sighed. "Ellia, are you sure? This isn't a trivial matter. As fated mates, the bond between you two was acknowledged by the Moon Goddess herself."

"I'm sure!" I looked up and exclaimed firmly. "Compared to being trapped in a relationship where my mate doesn't respect or acknowledge me, the pain of severing our bond is nothing."

The elder remained silent for a while before finally nodding. "The act of severing a bond must be performed on the night of the full moon. Come back in three days."

I was woken by a phone call in the middle of the night."Ms. Levington? The Alpha's condition is very serious. His wolf spirit is almost fading, but he keeps calling your name. He may not have much time left. Do you want to come see him one last time?"I remained silent for several seconds before reluctantly getting dressed.I really didn't want to go.When I arrived at the healer's den, Fenrir was lying on a hospital bed. His complexion was indeed poor, but his condition wasn't nearly as serious as what I'd been told over the phone. The moment he saw me walk in, his eyes lit up. "Ellia, you came."I stood next to the bed without sitting down. "They said you were dying. Did you deliberately have them lie to me?"He didn't answer. His eyes simply began darting around nervously.I understood immediately and turned around to leave."Don't be so childish. I was just afraid I'd never see you again." He grabbed my hand, and his voice trembled as he pleaded. "Ellia, please. Give me a

Winter in the northern territory felt endless. My work at the institute kept me busy. Every day, I worked on uncovering and restoring ancient structures left behind in the northern territory, translating old manus, and occasionally participating in cross-pack conferences. No one here criticized me for spending my days with books and rocks. Instead, they respectfully called me 'Professor Ellia.'It was fulfilling and satisfying. My injuries were still slowly healing. The trauma caused by the severed mate bond ran deep.Sometimes, I'd wake suddenly in the middle of the night. My chest ached so badly that I could barely breathe. But most of the time, I could feel myself healing.Leaving Fenrir had been the right choice for my wolf spirit. As a result, my recovery began to accelerate. The small apartment Mario had rented for me was warm and cozy.Whenever the sun came out, its light would fill the apartment. In my free time, I'd visit the old bookstores around town and hunt for

The night of the full moon arrived.Without Ellia's soothing presence, Fenrir's injured wolf spirit became unusually volatile. He dropped to his knees in agony, and a low growl escaped from his mouth. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't suppress it.Sweat soaked through his shirt, and eventually, he collapsed onto the floor. He was completely exhausted. The excruciating pain gradually clouded his consciousness.Amid the endless darkness and torment, Fenrir began desperately missing Ellia. He missed the gentle, reassuring way Ellia used to calm him.If none of those things had happened, they would've already completed our marking ceremony.Consumed by regret, Fenrir eventually lost consciousness. When Wendy and Mia arrived at the apartment, they found Fenrir with his clothes disheveled, his face pale, and his entire body looking utterly worn down.Wendy cried out in shock. "Oh my goodness! Fenrir, how did you end up like this?""What are you doing here?" Fenrir struggle

From Fenrir's point of view, there was nothing he could say or do to stop the bond-severing.The next moment, the bond was severed completely.Fenrir could no longer hold on. His vision went black, and he passed out. When he woke again, he was lying on a bed in the healer's den and surrounded by healers.Mia was trying to force pills into his mouth while Wendy watched him anxiously.A nurse was pressing down on his chest while trying to calm his wolf spirit.Fenrir refused to give up. He tried once again to establish a mind-link connection with me, but he couldn't feel anything. It felt like a part of his chest had been hollowed out. The bond that connected him to me was gone.It was completely severed. Not even the slightest trace of its presence remained. His wolf spirit was howling in agony deep within his consciousness while desperately trying to find that bond again."Fenrir, your wolf spirit is tearing itself apart!" Wendy's expression was grim. "What happened?""It wa

Over the next few days, I didn't initiate a single conversation with Fenrir. I completely treated him as if he were invisible.Strangely enough, it didn't make me feel bad at all. That lasted until the night before our marking ceremony. It was also the night before my scheduled bond-severing.A frantic ringtone came from the living room and woke me.My hearing was exceptionally sharp.Through the half-closed bedroom door, I immediately heard the voice from the next room."Mia? What's wrong?" There was unmistakable urgency in Fenrir's voice.I lay quietly on the bed in the bedroom and listened. From the other end of the phone, I vaguely heard Mia's trembling, tearful voice. "Fenrir, I'm behind the healer's den. There's a rogue–""Don't move! I'm coming!" Fenrir's footsteps were hurried and chaotic. He didn't even have time to get properly dressed. He grabbed his coat and threw it on as he rushed outside. He slammed into the door but didn't seem to feel it.What happened to hi

That weekend, we returned to the main residence.Fenrir was the pack's Alpha, and technically, I still had no right to refuse him.Fenrir's mother, Wendy Blake, was waiting at the door. The moment she saw Fenrir get out of the car, her face lit up with a smile. "Fenrir, we've been waiting for you."When she saw me behind him, her smile faded slightly. "Ellia's here too."I used to care deeply about her attitude toward me, but now, all I wanted was to brush it off and leave.I hummed nonchalantly in response and followed them inside.Mia was already sitting on the couch in the living room. She had on a light purple dress. Her hair was styled perfectly. Clearly, she'd taken great care with her appearance. When she saw Fenrir, she stood up and beamed with a smile. "Fenrir, you're here."Wendy took Mia's hand and sat down beside her. "Mia, come here. Take a look at this."Wendy retrieved a photo album. "This is one of the venues for the marking ceremony.
