FAZER LOGINEvelyn’s P.O.V.
“Why are we here, Evelyn? Hiding like thieves.” Cathy whispered to me, a hint of worry and panic evident in her voice.
I just patted the back of her hand on my arm, but my heart was also racing hard in fear.
I had been a good girl all my life.
A textbook good girl, to be precise.
I never skipped school, never got in a fight, never made any trouble anywhere, not even at home.
And yet here I was...
Hiding under the bleachers with Cathy, trying to sneak into the rival team's sitting area.
If someone had told the old Evelyn that one day she would willingly do something like this to destroy the only person she loved the most, I would have laughed in their faces.
But Evelyn was dead.
She died in that filthy and dark cell.
The girl standing here now had already lost everything once.
There was only a polyester curtain between us and the sitting area of the rival team – The Black Raven Team.
I slowly tugged the upper edge of the curtain down and peeked on the other side.
All the players had their faces towards the ground, shouting and cheering for their team members playing right now.
“I…. I need this bag, Cathy.” I whispered to Cathy in a shaky voice when I found a way to pass a message to their coach.
“What?” Cathy yelled in a hushed tone, her eyes widening in horror.
“Are you crazy?” she continued, looking fearful and shocked.
“You…. You want to steal that bag?” Her disbelief was justified, but I didn’t have time to explain things to her.
In the next four minutes, Zack will score the first goal, and then the whole match will spiral into chaos.
Even though I didn’t provide him with the information, Zack was still a skilled player, and this first goal was his own effort.
“Get that bag, Cathy,” I muttered into her ear because the crowd above us was cheering aloud.
The noise was deafening.
She glared hard at me but peeked from that small opening.
“If… if I get caught, you just run away, okay.” She said to me in a shaky voice.
She was now literally trembling in fear.
I knew myself very well.
Even though it’s my second chance in life, and I am determined to ruin Zack at any cost, I am still the same good girl who can’t even lie without stuttering, let alone stealing something.
I knew that I would put the bag back in that same place in a few minutes; I was scared to death.
Cathy squatted down and got on her knees before pulling the curtain up slightly.
I was so nervous that I felt dizzy.
The match was getting heated with every passing second.
My heart almost lurched out of my mouth when Cathy pulled that bag off the bench, and one of the sitting players looked in that direction.
But to my relief, another player immediately leaned in his direction.
“O, Jesus! Please forgive me for this sin.” She started mumbling the apology to the god in fear.
I almost fell on my knees and opened the bag.
I knew this bag very well, but I didn’t have time to reminisce about that incident.
I immediately opened the zipper and looked for his phone.
After finding the phone, I instantly opened it and pursed my lips into a thin line when it asked for a password or for facial recognition.
“Why are you using his phone?” Cathy asked me in a low and panicked voice.
“J… just enable the Bluetooth,” I asked her in a shaky voice.
My hands were already shaking badly.
“What are you trying to do, Evelyn? You are now scaring me to death.” Cathy asked me fearfully but took the phone from me.
“Hurry. They will notice soon,” I urged her while taking my tablet out of my bag.
I glanced at Cathy, who was now trying to turn on Bluetooth in his phone, and smiled bitterly.
This was my Cathy.
Even when she was scared to death, she was here with me.
Her faith and trust in me had always been like this.
“What? Hurry up. We don’t have time.” She urged me fearfully when she found me staring at her.
I blinked, snapping out of my thoughts, and immediately opened the folder where I had kept my notes.
Two folders opened in front of me.
Our Team
Rival Teams
My fingers paused at the space beside them for a moment.
Both folders were the result of my relentless hard work for more than three months.
My stomach tightened when all the memories of that time hit the back of my mind.
At that time, I watched so many matches of all the rival teams nonstop to get their weaknesses.
As the team strategist, it was part of my work, but I always went the extra mile to make things easier for Zack during the match.
How pathetic?
I sniffed, feeling both nostalgic and wronged.
From middle school to university, how many matches did I help Zack win?
And what did I get in the end?
“Evelyn.” Cathy shook me gently, panic still evident in her voice.
I snapped out of my thoughts and immediately opened Zack’s folder.
Without thinking much, I sent the file to the phone through Bluetooth.
“What? Are you…. What exactly do you want to do, Evelyn?” Cathy panicked but still looked worried.
I didn’t answer her, just stared at the progress bar.
How could I tell her why I sent Zack’s doom to his biggest rival?
“Close the Bluetooth and put the bag back there,” I instructed her hurriedly when the transfer was complete.
Cathy glared hard at me but did what I said.
I looked at the rink and searched for the only boy whom I wanted to see tonight.
I didn’t even pay attention to Cathy while searching for him.
I felt my throat tighten when I saw him slipping through Zack and our team, dodging their attacks, protecting the puck with his stick.
“Come on, let’s go,” Cathy yelled in a whisper, grabbing my wrist.
I blinked, and at the same second, his face moved in my direction.
Even though his face was mostly covered by the helmet, our gazes met.
Or I felt as if his gaze met mine.
For a moment, the whole world around me vanished.
Those cold silver eyes....
Everything that happened after my death came crashing down on me at once.
Every second of the moment when he held my dead body in his embrace flickered in front of my eyes.
His eyes remained cold in those moments.
His eyes were still the same.
I felt tears in my eyes.
"Evelyn," Cathy spoke through her teeth.
I sniffed and let go of the curtain before taking Cathy's wrist.
We slipped beneath the bleachers again, keeping our heads low until we were far enough from the rival team's area.
We weren't running, but our breaths turned heavy.
It took us a few minutes to get on the other side of the bleachers.
The time was now closing in on me.
I still needed to do something to change Zack's and my fate.
"God, Evelyn! You owe me a serious explanation." Cathy muttered shakily.
“I do, Cathy, but not tonight,” I replied to her while trying to catch my breath.
Now we were walking back. As part of the team, I had to stay with the team during the match.
“And why not?” she questioned back, glaring hard at me.
I smiled mysteriously but didn’t answer her.
The real show will start after the match, not during the match.
Evelyn’s P.O.V.“What the fu*k is wrong with him today?” The coach, Mark Sinclair, yelled at the top of his lungs, frustrated and angry to death while watching the match slip out of our hands because of the way Zack was playing.I still bit my nails out of habit while watching the match, but I wasn’t anxious about Zack. But I was anxious about the game. This was not only about Zack. I had no grudge against the rest of the team members. This match was also crucial for them. This was the final match of the tournament. This match would open their way to the national ice hockey team.If they lose this match, they will have to wait a whole year to get this opportunity.“Don’t you think that Evan is playing better than in earlier matches, coach?” My grip on my tablet tightened when I heard someone whispering to the coach. So far, the match was just like it was in the past life. Our team still had the lead, but they were struggling. The Black Raven was giving our team, the Mountain Hawk, a h

Evelyn’s P.O.V. (Continued)“What is it?” I asked her, shifting my gaze towards her, and started walking.I had something to do before the match if I wanted to change the outcome of this match. She wrapped her hand around my elbow and took a deep breath."He seems... different today," she mumbled, but my heart skipped a beat.I still looked at her in confusion. Her opinion and observation mattered to me now.“What do you mean?” I asked her when I noticed that she wasn’t looking at me but at the front of us with a complicated gaze.“I don’t know.” She answered with a troubled expression on her face.“He kept smiling, b…. but it felt forced.” She added and slowly moved her gaze to me.I stared at her, dumbfounded. In my previous life, Cathy had never said anything like that.Has my refusal of his proposal already brought some changes in our future? She sighed aloud, jerking her head lightly, and then concern crept into her gaze."You've been acting strangely since Zack pulled that stunt
Evelyn’s P.O.V. (Continued)“I am okay, Zack. Thanks for your concern,” I answered him politely but couldn’t mask the detachment in my tone. His eyes widened in shock, but he covered them instantly.“Okay. You are fine… you… I guess I startled you in the worst way.” He mumbled, smiling awkwardly, and pulled back his hand.“You… you are under so much stress because of this match. I should have thought it through before doing something like this.” He continued, clicking his tongue, sounding a bit disappointed, but I just stared at him blankly. It was the same tactic that he always used to gain my sympathy and raise the urge to comfort him in my heart. But not this time.I tightened my grip on my tablet against my stomach when I noticed his gaze darting to the tablet from time to time. The chill ran down my spine at that very instant, but my jaw clenched when I saw the beautiful face of the ugliest and cruellest girl behind him.She stopped at the far end of the hallway and looked at me.
Evelyn’s P.O.V.I looked at the boy with a red rose bouquet in his hands, beaming widely with those radiant, sparkling eyes that kept me captivated for so many years in a daze.“Say, yes….. say, yes…… say, yes.” The crowd around us was cheering aloud. My head was fuzzy, and I didn’t register what actually was happening around me.The chill of the winter winds still had wrapped itself around my body. The suffocation, the helplessness, and the coldness of the metal around my limbs were still fresh on my skin.Among the claps, cheers, and those wide grins, I heard filthy laughter and curses.Their cameras pointed towards me.“Say yes.”“Say yes.”“Evelyn”I jolted hard when the voice of my worst nightmare called me affectionately. My heart was now thudding hard against my ribcage. My hand shot to my chest.I felt the thud against my chest under my palm.My eyes darted everywhere in panic, trying to grasp whether I was hallucinating or I was really here.My breath hitched when my gaze lan
