FAZER LOGINEvelyn’s P.O.V. (Continued)
“What is it?” I asked her, shifting my gaze towards her, and started walking.
I had something to do before the match if I wanted to change the outcome of this match.
She wrapped her hand around my elbow and took a deep breath.
"He seems... different today," she mumbled, but my heart skipped a beat.
I still looked at her in confusion.
Her opinion and observation mattered to me now.
“What do you mean?” I asked her when I noticed that she wasn’t looking at me but at the front of us with a complicated gaze.
“I don’t know.” She answered with a troubled expression on her face.
“He kept smiling, b…. but it felt forced.” She added and slowly moved her gaze to me.
I stared at her, dumbfounded.
In my previous life, Cathy had never said anything like that.
Has my refusal of his proposal already brought some changes in our future?
She sighed aloud, jerking her head lightly, and then concern crept into her gaze.
"You've been acting strangely since Zack pulled that stunt of proposing.” She asked me worriedly, her gaze moving over my face.
“I…. I.” I swallowed hard, not knowing how to explain this whole reborn thing.
“I…. I don’t know how to…. To tell you, b… but a premonition filled my heart as soon as I realised what he was going to do.” I replied to her while stuttering a little, feigning fear.
“I think th.. that my mind played a trick on me, but I felt as if someone was screaming right in my ears not to say….th.. that my life would become a nightmare if I agreed to his proposal. Am I losing my mind, Cathy?” My voice kept going low while speaking.
Cathy just blinked while listening to my blabbering but didn’t question me.
She looked at me for a long moment before unexpectedly pulling me into a side hug, startling me, but I welcomed her embrace.
"You don't need to be scared of anything, okay?" She spoke so softly as if I would shatter if she used a firm voice.
"I'm here." Those three simple words shattered something inside me.
In my previous life...
She had said those exact words countless times.
Each time, I brushed her aside because Zack needed me.
Because hockey came first.
Because love came first.
I had failed the one person who never failed me.
I grabbed her hand on my arm tightly, trying to suppress my whimper, but couldn’t.
My gaze moved towards the other end of the tunnel, opening onto the ground.
Both teams were now about to enter the ring.
We could now hear the crowd cheering aloud, the beats of the drums pumping adrenaline into the veins of both the players and the crowd.
Cathy didn’t remove her hand from my shoulder but tightened her grip on my arm.
We didn’t speak again but walked straight to the side where our team had its sitting area.
As soon as I reached our team's sitting area, I stopped behind it and looked at Evan, who was about to put on his helmet.
“Look at me, Evan,” I muttered under my breath while looking at him desperately.
I stopped at the farthest corner of the sitting area instead of approaching the team around the coach.
As the strategist, I should have been there, but I had already given my observation sheet to the coach just like other times.
Zack didn’t like me standing among the boys.
Or this is what he said to me, showing his possessiveness towards me, and I….
The bitterness filled my heart again, but I brushed it off, concentrated on Evan, but kept looking around to avoid suspicion.
Zack still glanced at me a few times, ensuring that I didn’t try to approach the team.
“Why are we here?” Cathy asked me in a whisper.
“Shouldn’t we go to our place on the other side?” she asked again, but I didn’t pay attention to her this time.
“Come on, Evan,” I muttered in my heart, and as if he heard me, he looked straight at me.
My heart skipped a beat when our gazes met.
But I controlled my emotions and signalled to him for his phone.
He narrowed his eyes, moving his gaze towards Zack, who was now talking with the coach.
Then Evan looked back at me, calculation and confusion evident in his cold and indifferent gaze.
I immediately moved towards the designated seat for Cathy and me outside the sitting area.
“Take this, and send this information to Evan,” I said to Cathy in a hushed tone, opening my tablet; my fingers were now moving faster than I had ever done.
“What? What are you trying to do?” Cathy asked me in a panicked but hushed tone.
She still took my tablet from me.
She was majoring in computer science and was a good hacker.
I looked up and saw him still looking at me.
“Come on, Evan. Put your helmet on now.” Coach yelled at Evan.
My heart started beating furiously as I held my gaze with him, pleading silently through my eyes for him to look at his phone.
He was about to put his helmet back on, but then he set it down and took his phone from the bench.
I breathed out in relief and smiled.
Both Cathy and I sat down on the chairs, and I looked at Cathy.
“Done.” She answered, but suspicion filled her gaze.
“I am the strategist for both, right?” I questioned her innocently, but she arched her brows.
I grinned toothily, and she grimaced.
“Don’t give me this look,” she grumbled, and I just laughed while taking her arm.
She put the tablet back on my lap.
“You are right, but you still wanted me to send the tip anonymously.” She remarked under her breath.
“I don’t know what you saw in that brat,” she continued, but her question stabbed my heart.
“Yeah… what did I even see in him?” I muttered to myself and looked towards the cheerleading team.
Jessica was now dancing in front of the squad, her chin high, pride evident in her gaze.
She was dancing with practised ease, but my gaze darted towards the other end of the ring when the MC asked both teams to enter the ring.
My heart thudded hard against my ribcage when I tried to find that one person whom I never paid attention to in my past life, but the only one who saved some dignity for me by giving me a proper burial.
The one who I considered my enemy because of Zack, when he did nothing wrong to me.
My heart stopped beating for a few seconds and then thudded hard against my ribcage when he entered the ring first.
The captain and the center forward of the Black Raven Team – Kaelen Thorne.
He had put his helmet on, but I still saw those cold silver eyes.
He walked confidently, skating slightly, and reached the centre of the ring.
He didn’t look around like Zack.
Zack wasn’t the captain of our team.
Not now.
So he was standing in the second line behind the captain, Harold Rossi, senior year – computer science major – and also the goalkeeper of our team.
The crowd started cheering for their favourite players.
I heard Zack’s name, but it was still not as loud as Kaelen’s.
Zack still held his chin high, basking in the glory of those shouts.
Let’s see, Zack, if you still bask in the glory after this match.
I put my tablet in my backpack and threw it on my back before grabbing Cathy’s wrist.
The match was about to start, and so did the next part of my revenge tonight.
“What?” Cathy asked me in confusion when I pulled her up.
“Let’s go,” I said to her calmly, and at the same time the referee whistled aloud, starting the match.
“Where now?” she asked me in confusion but started walking with me.
Evelyn’s P.O.V.“Why are we here, Evelyn? Hiding like thieves.” Cathy whispered to me, a hint of worry and panic evident in her voice.I just patted the back of her hand on my arm, but my heart was also racing hard in fear.I had been a good girl all my life.A textbook good girl, to be precise.I never skipped school, never got in a fight, never made any trouble anywhere, not even at home. And yet here I was...Hiding under the bleachers with Cathy, trying to sneak into the rival team's sitting area.If someone had told the old Evelyn that one day she would willingly do something like this to destroy the only person she loved the most, I would have laughed in their faces. But Evelyn was dead. She died in that filthy and dark cell. The girl standing here now had already lost everything once. There was only a polyester curtain between us and the sitting area of the rival team – The Black Raven Team.I slowly tugged the upper edge of the curtain down and peeked on the other side. All th

Evelyn’s P.O.V. (Continued)“I am okay, Zack. Thanks for your concern,” I answered him politely but couldn’t mask the detachment in my tone. His eyes widened in shock, but he covered them instantly.“Okay. You are fine… you… I guess I startled you in the worst way.” He mumbled, smiling awkwardly, and pulled back his hand.“You… you are under so much stress because of this match. I should have thought it through before doing something like this.” He continued, clicking his tongue, sounding a bit disappointed, but I just stared at him blankly. It was the same tactic that he always used to gain my sympathy and raise the urge to comfort him in my heart. But not this time.I tightened my grip on my tablet against my stomach when I noticed his gaze darting to the tablet from time to time. The chill ran down my spine at that very instant, but my jaw clenched when I saw the beautiful face of the ugliest and cruellest girl behind him.She stopped at the far end of the hallway and looked at me.
Evelyn’s P.O.V.I looked at the boy with a red rose bouquet in his hands, beaming widely with those radiant, sparkling eyes that kept me captivated for so many years in a daze.“Say, yes….. say, yes…… say, yes.” The crowd around us was cheering aloud. My head was fuzzy, and I didn’t register what actually was happening around me.The chill of the winter winds still had wrapped itself around my body. The suffocation, the helplessness, and the coldness of the metal around my limbs were still fresh on my skin.Among the claps, cheers, and those wide grins, I heard filthy laughter and curses.Their cameras pointed towards me.“Say yes.”“Say yes.”“Evelyn”I jolted hard when the voice of my worst nightmare called me affectionately. My heart was now thudding hard against my ribcage. My hand shot to my chest.I felt the thud against my chest under my palm.My eyes darted everywhere in panic, trying to grasp whether I was hallucinating or I was really here.My breath hitched when my gaze lan
