Harley POV

As soon as Daniel left, I called my friend, Ray Wilcox. He answered on the first ring, “Hey, Harley, what’s up? I haven’t heard from you in forever.” I smiled at his eagerness, “Hey Ray, it has been a long time. A lot has happened since the last time we talked. First, I am divorced now and I’m only designing clothes for fun. Next, I started selling my flea market finds. I have a shop called History Recreated, History Reclaimed. You should stop in and see it.”

I paused and Ray chuckled

I sincerely apologize for not updating in so long. I was in the hospital for most of that time. I was even on a ventilator for a week. This time of year is awful for me because I get sick so easily. It seems that if I'm standing downwind from someone who sneezes, I get sick. My energy is starting to come back now. I will try to get another chapter done today too. As always, I hope you liked this chapter. I would love to read your comments.

Just as Leigh Ann was leaving the stand Victor slid onto the seat next to Daniel. I heard Daniel ask, “Did you get carried away talking with Amy?” Victor blushed, “Maybe. Bro, she’s awesome. We’ll talk more about this later.”We spent the next six hours watching testimonies from several people from the defense side, then the Prosecutor would tear the original testimony to shreds. There were no experts, only more of Daya’s friends, committing perjury. It didn’t take much to disprove their testimonies and expose their intent to commit perjury. The judge had each of them taken to the holding cells to wait for their sentence. When both sides rested their cases, the judge made sure the jury was given their instructions, then they were sent back to the jury room for deliberations. As soon as they were gone, the judge turned to the court room, “I do not foresee a long deliberation for the jury, so you are welcome to take a thirty-minute break, and we will reconvene in this court room.” He ban

When we got back to the court room, we took our seats and waited for the judge and jury to enter the room. Within a minute of our arrival, the guards brought Daya to the Defendant’s table and the Prosecutor took his seat in front of the stand. When the bailiff announced the judge’s arrival, we all stood until he was seated and he announced, “You may be seated.”He then turned to the bailiff, “Please bring in the jury.” The bailiff stepped out and returned just a couple minutes later with the jury following him. When they were seated, he turned to the prosecutor’s table, “Prosecution, please call your next witness.” The prosecutor stood, “The prosecution now calls Leigh Ann Michaels to the stand.”Leigh Ann entered the gallery and took her seat on the stand. As soon as she was seated, some of Daya’s friends stood and started trying to threaten Leigh Ann. One stood and shouted, “Leigh Ann, if you say anything against Daya, I swear, you will never have another friend.” Leigh Ann replied,

Daniel and I went to a coffee shop that was close to the courthouse, while Victor and Theodore followed us. When we were all seated, the waitress approached our table, handing out menus, “What can I get you all to drink?” I smiled, “I think I would like an iced tea, sweetened.” Daniel answered, “Same for me.” Victor answered, “Make that three.” Theodore grinned, “Make that four. Thank you.”The waitress stepped back, “My name is Amy and I will be back shortly with your drinks, and I will also take your orders then.” I smiled as she turned to walk away. As soon as she left our table, Victor grinned mischievously, “She’s nice. Very pretty too.” Daniel chuckled, “I didn’t see a wedding band. Maybe you should try.”Victor gasped, “No. Just no. I want to wait until the babies are born before I even attempt a new relationship.” I shrugged, “I don’t know about that. Some women would prefer to be a part of things as soon as she meets the guy. You would just need to be open and honest about the

Harley POVThe bailiff walked into the conference room, “Mrs. Harley Cross, the court is ready for you.” I smiled, “On my way.” I stood to join him, and we walked to the courtroom. As I walked through the gallery, I could feel eyes on me. It was seriously starting to creep me out until I got to the witness stand. As soon as I was sworn in, I sat down and immediately locked eyes with Daya. I smiled, then turned to the prosecutor, waiting for him to start speaking. He approached to stand in front of me, “Would you please state your full name for the court?” I nodded, “My name is Harlequin Marie Cross. Everyone just calls me Harley.”The prosecutor asked, “How long have you known the defendant?” I shrugged, “I had only known about her until two days after Victor told me he wanted a divorce.” He asked, “Was that the day after you moved out?” I nodded, “Yes. That was the day I had movers at the house to get my stuff out of our house. It was also the day I found out I was pregnant.”He asked

Victor POVThe defense attorney, a short guy with a bit of a belly and a receding hairline, approached me, “Mister Cross, how would you characterize your relationship with my client now?” I huffed, “What relationship? She is nothing to me. The Daya I used to know died when she rejected my proposal and walked away. The woman who came back is not the one who left.”He asked, “What do you mean?” I answered, “In high school, Daya did not have that whiney voice, she wasn’t as clingy as she is now, and she wasn’t the type of girl who would plan to kill an unborn child or anyone, for that matter. The girl I proposed marriage to was just an average girl who was very pretty. The woman who came back is mostly plastic and it shows.“Everything about her, now, is overdone; cheek implants, collagen injections in the lips, facelift, butt implants, Botox injections so strong, a huge John Deere tractor won’t make her eyebrows move. I prefer a woman with a more natural look.” Daya jumped up again, “Vic

Chapter 121Victor POVWhen I walked into the court room, I could feel all eyes on me as I walked through the gallery and approached the stand. I was sworn in and sat in the chair provided. As soon as I settled in, I caught Daya smiling at me and I gave her a disgusted expression as I shook my head. I heard her make a sound like a growl and I just shook my head at her again. It’s a good thing I got rid of her. There is no way I could have spent the rest of my life with her.The judge addressed the prosecution, “Prosecutor, please proceed.” The prosecutor stood up and walked to stand in front of me, “Mister Cross, how do you know Dayanara Lachland?” I answered, “Our mothers were friends since we were babies, so we grew up together.”The prosecutor asked, “At what age did you start dating?” I answered, “We were 16. When we graduated high school, I proposed, but she declined. She said she wanted to be able to stay single to get her acting career established.” He asked, “How did you take t

Victor’s POVMy babies are growing and I can’t be there to say goodnight every night, let them get to know my voice, feel them kick. I fucked up so badly, I know I will never get her back. I don’t even feel like I have a right to ask for those things. When Harley allowed me to put my hand where my b

When I finished with Jessie, I went to the front of the store and checked in with the ladies. I walked to the counter and asked Angela, “How’s it going?” She answered, “It’s going great. The next morning, I woke up extra early. I tried and failed to go back to sleep, so I got out of bed, took my shower, and dressed in a pair of sweats and a T-shirt until it was time to go to the other shop. When I got to the store, I unlocked the door and walked in. I walked around and looked at all of the items to be refurbished or repurposed. I smiled at all the possibilities.
