I hastily returned to Charlie's office and rushed inside.

A man approaches me, and I turn to him with a sense of urgency, saying, "I need to speak with Charlie immediately. He summoned me here."

The man explains to me briefly, his expression unsettling, but I shake it off as I'm preoccupied with my meeting with Charlie. He points to the door on his left, saying, "In there." I approach the door, knock gently, and start to introduce myself, "It's Alexandra -" But before I can finish, the door swings open, making my heart skip a beat as I gaze up at a man likely in his thirties.

He gazes at me with an intense, wide-eyed stare, then steps aside, holding the door open for me to enter. I give him a curious glance, sensing something odd about his behavior.

As I step inside, I see Charlie and a woman seated on the sofa. The man joins them, sitting across from the woman, and remarks in a tone of astonishment, "They're incredibly alike in every way."

The woman's gaze shifts to me, and I sense a growing unease, feeling like something is off. She rises from her seat and approaches me, her eyes filled with wonder. She takes my hands in hers, her grasp gentle, and asks, her voice laced with disbelief, "How is this possible?"

I gently pull my hands free from the woman's grasp, unsure of what she's referring to and not ready to engage in a conversation about it. My priority remains securing my mom's release.

I approach Charlie, asking again, "What do I need to do to get my mom back?" Charlie doesn't respond immediately, too engrossed in flipping through a magazine.

He finally stops, tosses the magazine towards me, and opens it to a specific page, leaving me perplexed and wondering if he's serious.

I raise an eyebrow, curious, as Charlie instructs me to examine the image. Bending down, I pick up the magazine, and my eyes land on the caption: "Billionaire Maya is back in style."

My gaze follows the text to a photograph of a woman adorned in sleek, high-end attire. My hands tremble as I stare at the face in the image, my mind reeling in astonishment. I drop the magazine, my eyes locking onto Charlie's, and demand, "What on earth are you scheming?" My thoughts are in disarray, struggling to comprehend the implications.

I'm stunned, wondering how a picture of me could be in a magazine, dressed in expensive clothing I could never afford. I'm curious, thinking Charlie might be playing a trick on me.

Charlie's response is hurtful and emotionless, "Does it look like I called you here to play with you?" I'm unsure if he's being truthful or not. The other man approaches me, handing me a photo. I take it, and this time, I get a clear view of the woman's face.

I'm astonished by the uncanny resemblance, even sharing a similar smile.

"He identifies the woman in the picture as Maya Everett and introduces the woman standing before me as her mother, Julian Everett."

My jaw drops in disbelief as I gaze at Julian, struggling to reconcile the fact that she's a member of the affluent Everett family, known for their inherited wealth, albeit not listed on the Alessio billionaire list due to their mixed heritage.

I'm still struggling to wrap my head around the uncanny resemblance between Maya Everett and me. This revelation is the most astonishing news I've ever received.

I can't help but wonder if this means I'm destined for greatness. If resembling a billionaire means I'll someday join their ranks.

My thoughts are interrupted by a loud, deep voice, jolting me back to reality. I sigh and glance down at Charlie, still puzzled about why I'm here and why they're showing me pictures of Maya.

"You agreed to do something in exchange for your mother's release, remember?" Charlie looks up at me, his eyes serious. "I want you to impersonate Maya St. Clair for three weeks."

Time seems to freeze, and I feel like I've stopped breathing. I struggle to find my words, my gaze fixed on Julian again. "What? That doesn't make sense," I stutter, wondering if they're playing some kind of cruel joke on me.

"They want me to pretend to be Maya St. Clair for three weeks?" I laugh, thinking it's a joke. "Why would I do that? Are you guys playing some kind of prank on me?"

Charlie's serious expression makes my laughter fade, and I'm left feeling confused and uneasy. The young man explains that Maya has run away and isn't responding to calls, which is why they need me to fill in for her until she returns.

I'm curious, thinking that rich kids like Maya are often spoiled and entitled. But then I remember my own vendetta against Petal, who wronged me, and I'm determined to make him pay for what he did.

"I need money to bail my mom out first," I think to myself, "because there's no way I'm pretending to be Maya without getting something in return."

I've always dreamed of being rich, but temporary fame and wealth for three weeks isn't worth the risk. What happens after that? I can't even consider it.If I want to be rich, I'll work hard and earn it myself, not pretend to be someone else.

"I apologize, Charlie, but I can't do that," I say firmly. "Why not?" he asks, and I respond, "Because pretending to be Maya is unthinkable, it gives me the chills."

Just then, the woman speaks up, "I'll give you a million dollars," and my heart skips a beat. My mind races as I consider the offer, my initial reluctance wavering at the prospect of such a substantial sum.

"Whoa, one million dollars? That's a game-changer! With that kind of money, I can finally live the life I've always dreamed of.

I can buy a house and a car and set my mom up for life. I can go back to school and pursue my passion for beauty and become a successful beautician.

The possibilities are endless! I can actually become the rich girl I've always wanted to be, without having to pretend to be someone else. This could be my ticket to a brand new life, and I'm tempted to take it."

I'm lost in a daydream of all the things I could buy with a million dollars - clothes, shoes, and a life of luxury. But the man's voice snaps me back to reality, "Are you in or out?" he asks quietly and quickly

I gaze at Charlie with a beaming smile, "I'd be a fool to pass up an opportunity to help someone in need, don't you think?" I chuckle, my enthusiasm evident in my tone. I turn back

I feel a flutter in my chest, like butterflies spreading their wings. It's as if luck has finally smiled upon me, and fate has decided to shine its light on me once again.

I thought I had been abandoned by destiny, left to navigate the darkness on my own.

But now, it seems like the tide is turning in my favor, and I'm filled with a sense of hope and wonder.

EthanI stop and continue to stare at her. She didn't know I was in.She continues to cream her body.I take the opportunity to check her out. Her slender and clear skin. It seems like she has an arse. Though, I'm unable to look at her chest. But she has a figure-eight shape. I feel like touching her. I suddenly feel like feeling her skin with my hands. For now, I've not seen how Maya looks like being naked, but I love how Alexandra looks.Fuck! She's not Maya; she's Alexandra.I'm not supposed to be thinking like this. I can't even think like that towards Maya, much less Alexandra.Alexandra is an impostor!Aside from that, I'm not supposed to love Maya.I turn around and knock on the door slightly.“OMG! You scared me!” She screams, “What are you doing here?”“ Can I turn around,” I sayinstead, ignoring her question.“Yes,” she stammers. When I look at her, she looks away, and I can feel the blush on her cheeks. I can't believe she's blushing.“Why are you here?”I walk towards her

  • The Fake Billionaire   Chapter 42: Confusion

EthanFinally, it felt like things were clicking into place. I honestly couldn’t believe how quickly everything got settled. I’m just glad I had the foresight to track down the girl Petal was so obsessed with.I pulled out my phone and called my mom. She answered right away, her voice sounding incredibly drained. I couldn't tell if she was just exhausted from her day or if she was simply tired of dealing with me. Honestly, it was probably both. Being an only child means I’ve definitely given my parents more than their fair share of headaches over the years. My dad loves to threaten to disown me when he's angry, but we both know that’s empty talk; I’m his only legitimate son. He has other children out there, but they’re all daughters, so technically, I’m the only one who can carry on the family name.I think the only reason Mom pushed so hard for this marriage to happen is that I’ve never brought a woman home that I actually loved. I’m pushing thirty and still haven’t found “the one.”

  • The Fake Billionaire   Chapter 41: Millionaire in the Making

AlexandraI stood at the top of the stairs, my heart hammering against my ribs so hard I thought it might actually crack a bone. My mind was racing, trying to make sense of the chaos unfolding in front of me. What was going on? Why was everyone suddenly here, acting like this was a grand reunion? And Ethan—he was looking up at me with a smile that felt far too warm for someone who, just hours ago, was a source of nothing but stress.I looked down at my phone again, my thumb trembling as I zoomed in on the notification. I needed to be sure I wasn't hallucinating from the sleeping pills or the sheer exhaustion of the last few days. But there it was, in black and white: a credit alert for one million dollars. One. Million. Dollars.Am I dreaming? I had to pinch the bridge of my nose to stay grounded. This felt like a movie, the kind where the protagonist wakes up and realizes it was all a fever dream. But the weight of the phone in my hand and the cool air of the hallway felt all too rea

  • The Fake Billionaire   Chapter 40: Living the Lie

AlexandraI stood there for a few minutes, completely rooted to the spot, unable to move. My heart was still hammering against my ribs. Honestly, I didn't actually expect him to kiss me. I thought I was just being clever, playing a part and teasing him a little to see how he’d react.Who am I kidding? I’m the one who provoked him. I was acting like his wife, pushing his buttons, and frankly, I’m lucky he didn't take things further right then and there. But as I stood in the silence that followed, a treacherous little thought crept in: why was a part of me actually wishing he hadn't stopped? The air in the room felt thick and stiflingly hot all of a sudden.I had to pull myself together. This situation was spiraling out of control. How was I ever going to get back to my real life? How could I possibly convince him that I’m not Maya, especially when I was leaning into his kiss like my life depended on it? The frustration was starting to settle in my bones, making me feel heavy and exhau

  • The Fake Billionaire   Chapter 39: My Feelings

Ethan I pull back, surprised at what Alexandra just did. Though, I don't seem to understand why I'm so tense or why I want to continue kissing her and why I want more. What's happening to me especially? I can't stop my heart from beating so fast. She stares into my eyes as if she could see through me. I pull back quickly, my breath caught in my chest. I shouldn't have kissed her. Well, I didn't want her to deny being Maya, not in front of my chauffeur. I still don't know who the spy is. And until I find out, I won't be able to trust anyone. I don't even know if I'm supposed to tell her I'm aware that she's Alexandra. While a part of me wants me to, the other part doesn't. I'm still not sure what this is. Ok, I knew Alexandra wouldn't follow me so easily. So I paid a man to remove the face mask. She's so sensitive to that and wouldn't want anyone to see her as Maya. But why did she pretend to be her in the first place? Though, I don't think she did this because of mo

  • The Fake Billionaire   Chapter 38: Burst the bubble

Alexandra I stare wide-eyed at Ethan, my legs shaking under me. Even my hands shook slightly. I realize I'm not even wearing a face mask. But how did he get to know this place? I've always worn a face mask to the club. Or does he know the truth now? OMG! What should I do? Gosh! Am I going to get apprehended? I quickly imagine myself behind the bar, begging the police to open the door for me. Screaming and beseeching them to let me out. “Hey!” Ethan snaps at me. I look at him, confused and speechless. “Ethan, I—,” I started, but he cut me off. “You don't have to say a word." He takes a step closer, and my heartbeat skyrockets. "Are you alright?" He touches my forehead slightly, and I jerk back. “ What are you doing?" I yell at him. He glanced back before looking back at me. “I'm your husband, remember?” Seriously? So, he is not aware of the fact that I'm not his beautiful wife. I'm Alexandra! Gosh, I don't believe he's here to take me back. “Hey, see! I'm not Maya!

  • The Fake Billionaire   Chapter 9: Destiny Yet to be Determined

As I gazed at him once more, taking in his strikingly handsome features, I began to understand what Maya had seen in him. There was something about being near him that sent shivers down my spine. It was hard to believe that I had only briefly harbored a crush on him.No, that couldn’t be possible.

  • The Fake Billionaire   Chapter 8: Disrupted Plot

After carefully placing the tray on the bedside table, I hurriedly exited my room, my heart pounding with urgency. As I stepped into the hallway, I noticed the maid still walking away, her back turned to me.I paused at the threshold of my room, leaning against the door-frame. “Wait!” I called out,
