Chapter 3

Author: Cute Bear Molly
“Sigh, that’s the power of money. It’s a real headache!”

Vicky froze in silence.

I had no intention of waiting for her answer and hung up immediately.

During that miserable stretch of my previous life, I had already seen her true face.

Back then, I had been completely brainwashed by her. At her behest, I left home and ran myself into a dead end.

When I tried to ask her for help, she brushed me off with, “Rachel, I’m really busy these days. Sorry, I can’t help you.”

The beeping that followed felt like a mockery.

A few days later, I handed out flyers under the blazing sun, and I saw her strolling with Lydia while laughing as if nothing had happened.

Later on, I saw her wedding photos with Peter in a luxurious five-star hotel. Her smile had looked so sweet.

What a joke.

I had treated her as my best friend.

Whenever classmates bullied her, I stood up for her and even asked my foster father to find her dad a good job in the company. I willingly paid for every meal and every shopping trip.

I gave her everything from the bottom of my heart. She turned out to be a shameless ingrate.

I gritted my teeth at the thought. A few minutes later, I walked out, only to see that same ingrate standing at my front door.

“Rachel, are you feeling better?”

Vicky was wearing a pure little-white-flower outfit. She lit up when she saw me and leaned close with exaggerated concern.

She deliberately raised her voice for my foster parents to hear every word.

“Your sister didn’t bully you, right? You hung up so suddenly! I got worried you’d do something silly… so I rushed over.”

“Vicky, Lydia is a lovely girl. I really like her.”

I blinked innocently and stepped away before she could link arms with me.

“And my dad didn’t try to kick me out like you said.

“I know you told me to run away because you wanted the best for me, but I really can’t bear to leave them, so I’m staying!”

Just like her, I made sure to keep my voice loud and clear.

Vicky’s face went pale. “Wait, I never said—”

Her guilty panic never stood a chance beneath my foster father’s sharp gaze.

He put away his gentle smile and sized her up. Understanding flickered in his gaze.

Peter’s voice came from behind us. “Vicky’s here? Come inside for a bit.”

Ugh, that gentle tone gave me goosebumps.

“Peter.”

Vicky’s eyes brightened, and she lowered her head like a pitiful victim.

“Rachel isn’t in the best mood, so maybe I should come back in a few days.”

Her words made it sound like I had bullied her and taken out my anger on her.

I was furious. Peter spoke again, “I’ll take you home since I’ve got errands and the route passes your place.”

Vicky had wanted this exact outcome.

She did not even glance at me and happily followed Peter to the car as if they were the actual pair of best friends.

“Rachel, that friend of yours…”

My foster father appeared at my side at some point and let out a heavy sigh.

He still thought I was the same gullible rich girl and hesitated out of fear of hurting my fragile heart.

Dad told me everything he had learned.

Vicky’s father had relied on our friendship for years to boss people around in the company. He had already caused tremendous resentment among the staff.

That year, when my foster father secretly reviewed the company accounts, he discovered that the man was highly suspected of embezzling company funds.

Vicky had neither mentioned any of this to me, nor had she warned her father to stop.

Even though I had been reborn, my heart still felt uneasy.I cared too much about my foster family. I feared being abandoned, and I feared losing their love. That fear had driven me to run away like a childish fool in my previous life.Yet in that moment, I felt absolutely certain. They loved me, and none of the things I feared would ever happen. My foster father gently spoke to me.“Rachel, we already told you that finding your biological parents only means there are two more people in this world who love you.“No matter what happens, this will always be your home.”A year later, my third guesthouse opened in a newly developed scenic area.On the opening day, my emotions surged and tears streamed down my face.I had gone from becoming popular overnight because of a travel vlogger, to almost losing everything to a toxic friend’s rumors, to now being called ‘Director Locke’ by others. My path as an entrepreneur felt unbelievably intense. As the guesthouse grew step by step int

She tried to steady herself as she cried and accused me, “She asked me to come here because she said she wanted to make peace, and I didn’t expect her to… “The moment I walked in, Rachel pushed me into the pool. She yanked my hair and forced me to delete the post and film an apology for her!” Vicky looked at the reporters she brought with hopeful eyes. “Please don’t let her trick you.” One older reporter spoke impatiently, “Miss Langley, you should check the news yourself. Tch, what a waste of our time.” Vicky’s face turned pale in an instant, and she stared at me in disbelief. “Rachel, what did you do?!” I made a face at her. What was she so shocked about? I was not a fool who would sit still and let her control me. While I wasted two hours soaking in the hot spring and enduring her smug face, my family had already begun our counterattack under my instructions. Lydia had posted a video titled [The Real Daughter Clarifies the Truth Behind the Accusations Against Rac

Would Lydia believe those lies? I stood in front of Lydia. My heart pounded with anxiety. I did not expect her to lift a warm smile and say, “I believe you.” I froze. “Even though we have not known each other for long, I can feel your sincerity. And I’m really happy to have you as my sister.” She took my hand, and her words moved me until my eyes filled with tears. “Don’t worry, we’ll help you.” She stepped aside. My foster parents and Peter stood behind her. There was no doubt or blame. I saw only concern on their faces. My nose stung at once. In this life, I was finally not that pitiful girl who faced every hardship alone. I had so many loving family members standing behind me. My biological parents called immediately to comfort me, and every word was filled with worry for my sake. Their complete trust settled my heart. Yet the guesthouse business still suffered enormous damage. Many reservations were cancelled, and a flood of malicious reviews appeared

Vicky had made her move. I opened it. My eyes widened the more I read. She had written several thousand words as she pretended to sob and accuse me of countless so-called “vicious acts.” [My dad works at the company owned by Rachel’s family. She used that to order me around like a servant for years and trampled on my dignity whenever she felt like it!] [She is actually a cruel, false daughter who keeps calling her real sister a scheming brat and a pauper in front of me and even said she wanted someone to teach her a lesson.] [I endured her deliberate psychological bullying for so long that I almost wanted to end my life. I decided to tell the truth so everyone can finally see her real face!] There was barely anything true in the entire post. This ridiculous pile of lies made my fingers tremble with anger. When had I ever ordered her around during all those years? She was the one who kept sticking to me for free meals and gifts. I had never spoken badly about Lydia, an

“I am not trying to interfere with your friendship. I only hope you stay vigilant.” “Dad, I know.” I stayed quiet for a moment before I continued with steady resolve, “She never treated me as a real friend. “You do not need to show her any mercy for my sake. Once you find evidence of her father’s embezzlement, let everything take the proper route.” Dad instructed Peter to begin investigating Vicky’s father’s misuse of company funds. My biggest worry, which was my biological father’s health, had already eased for the moment. It was time for me to consider our household income, as we could not rely on our savings forever. I decided to humbly seek advice from my experienced foster father and Peter. They fully supported me. The two cunning veterans helped me work through one practical idea after another. In the end, I gritted my teeth and I poured all my allowance into opening a small guesthouse near a newly developed tourist area. I pulled my biological parents along t
