Chapter 1

"Molly, you're the best!"

"Thanks for taking the whole class on this trip. We're so lucky to have a friend like you!"

As everyone crowded around Molly Landry, showering her with praise, it suddenly clicked.

I'd been reborn.

I was back on the day Molly invited our entire class on a trip to Maldelis.

In my last life, this trip was when she won everyone over for good. After that, the whole class adored her and believed anything she told them.

Later, those same people covered for her, turned against me, and blamed me for things I'd never done. In the end, they helped drive me to my death on the streets.

Now Molly stood in the middle of the crowd, basking in all the attention. And somehow, even while praising her, they still found time to mock me as I sat alone in the corner.

"Molly, why'd you even invite a cheapskate like Amber?"

"Seriously. I borrowed 200 dollars from her once, and she wouldn't stop asking me to pay her back. You're nothing like her, Molly. You actually know how to be generous."

Molly immediately jumped in to defend me. "Come on, don't say that. We're all classmates. We should look out for each other."

But her defense only made everyone's contempt for me even more obvious.

"Molly, you're way too nice. Who else would put up with a cheapskate like her?"

"Seriously. She doesn't get along with anyone, either. Just looking at her makes me sick!"

"Amber, you should be on your knees thanking Molly. If she hadn't insisted, none of us would've let you come on this trip!"

Nice?

Molly was anything but. She was cold, calculating, and downright vicious.

In my last life, my family had felt sorry for her and paid her expenses. And this was how she repaid us.

Behind my back, she went around telling everyone I was cheap, broke, and antisocial. She turned the whole class against me and got them to shut me out and bully me.

But I wasn't cheap. I just didn't waste money on things I didn't need. I wasn't very talkative, either, so I mostly kept to myself.

Molly used both against me, bad-mouthing me every chance she got. Eventually, she even drove my family's company into bankruptcy.

The creditors hounded us relentlessly, and in the end, Mom, Dad, and I were all killed.

My hands curled into fists as I thought about everything that had happened in my last life.

Who would've thought helping Molly would come back to bite us like this?

I was still lost in thought when someone gave me a hard shove. I looked up and found Felicia Cohen, Molly's sidekick, glaring at me with her hands on her hips.

"Amber, the heiress is waiting for you to thank her. Are you deaf or what?" she snapped.

Heiress?

I looked at Molly, who was dressed head to toe to look the part, and scoffed to myself.

If anyone here was an heiress, it was me. Molly was just the daughter of our neighbor, Lauren Wright.

Lauren had moved in next door after Molly finished middle school. She and Mom quickly became friends, and Mom soon learned how rough her life had been.

Lauren's husband had been addicted to gambling. He'd been beaten to death years earlier, leaving her buried in debt and raising Molly alone.

Molly had always done well in school, though, and eventually got into the local high school.

Lauren wanted to give her daughter a better place to study, so she moved here and worked one job after another just to keep Molly in school.

Mom felt sorry for her and helped out whenever she could.

Eventually, Lauren pushed herself so hard that she collapsed. After that, she could no longer afford Molly's tuition or even her own medical bills.

Since Molly had good grades, Mom offered to pay her tuition. She also sent Lauren money regularly to help cover their living expenses.

"Shut up!" Molly spat. She slapped me hard across the face again, then spit on me."Why did you get to be born into a rich family while I got stuck with one like mine? My dad died and left us buried in debt. It's not fair! I want everything you have, and if I can't have it, I'll destroy it!"I won't let you be better than me, Amber. If I have to live in the gutter, I'm dragging you down with me!"Then Molly suddenly pulled out a paring knife. Her eyes were wild as she raised it over me. She had Lauren pin me down so I couldn't fight back."Die! If I'm going down, you're coming with me!"Molly burst into hysterical laughter.Just as the knife was about to plunge into my throat, the factory door burst open, and the police rushed in.Before Molly or Lauren could react, the officers disarmed them, forced their arms behind their backs, and restrained them. Once they had both women under control, one of the officers came over and untied me."Thank you. You got here just in time!""

Watching everyone turn against her sent Molly over the edge. She'd spent years betraying other people, and now, for once, she was getting a taste of her own medicine. She got so worked up that she passed out right there and had to be taken to the hospital. But I wasn't about to let her off that easily. As soon as she recovered, I sued both her and Lauren. The evidence against them was overwhelming, and I won easily. The court ordered them to pay me a total of six million dollars. Five million dollars was for what Molly owed me, and the other one million was for emotional distress and damage to my reputation.A few days later, the court papers arrived at their house. To make sure Molly paid me back, I hired a professional team of debt collectors and sent them straight to her house. The burly men showed up carrying cleavers and planted themselves outside the front door. They refused to let Molly or Lauren leave until they paid what they owed, making their lives a living hell.Durin

By then, the officers had heard enough to know exactly what Lauren and Molly were trying to pull, and they had no patience left for either of them. After giving them a stern warning, the officers made them apologize before escorting them off the property. Before she left, Molly shot me a venomous glare. "Just you wait, Amber. I'm not letting this go!"I knew Molly wouldn't leave me alone. Even so, I still underestimated just how shameless she could be.The next day, I walked into the classroom and immediately noticed everyone whispering among themselves. At first, I assumed they were talking about Molly being exposed as a fake heiress. After all, everyone had seen the truth for themselves yesterday. But to my surprise, they weren't talking about Molly. They were talking about me.She'd gotten to them before I arrived. She had told everyone that if I really was rich, then the fact that I was so stingy only proved how selfish I was.She also claimed I'd never fit in because I tho

I cut Lauren off before she could finish."Save the guilt trip! Your problems have nothing to do with us, so why should we be expected to clean up your mess? We're not even family, and we've supported you and Molly for years."We've already done more than enough! And how did you repay us? By biting the hand that fed you. We're done bending over backward for a couple of ungrateful leeches. Now get out before I call the police!"Realizing I was serious, Lauren's eyes darted around. Then, without warning, she sat down right there on the floor and refused to budge."If you don't give me this month's money and start supporting Molly again, I'm not going anywhere!""You're not leaving? Fine. Then you're trespassing!"Before Lauren could react, I pulled out my phone and called the police, telling them she was refusing to leave our property. The police arrived soon after. Once they heard what had happened, they moved to escort Lauren out.Just then, a voice rang out from the doorway.

Larry went pale. Realizing just how badly he'd screwed up, he immediately started begging."Ms. Stone, please don't fire me! I wasn't thinking earlier, and I fell for Molly's act. That's the only reason I drove off! I've worked hard for the Stone family for years, so please give me another chance."My mother's 80, and I have a newborn at home. I can't afford to lose this job."I didn't budge. "You can explain that to my parents."I switched the call to speaker, and Mom and Dad's furious voices came through loud and clear."Larry Powell, you've got some nerve treating our daughter like that! You're fired!"The color drained from Larry's face. He stood there in shock for a moment before whipping around to glare at Molly. Then he slapped her hard across the face."You little brat! This is all your fault! If you hadn't put on that whole victim act and made it look like Ms. Stone was bullying you, I never would've driven off!"You really are ungrateful. Ms. Stone was kind enough to

I ignored them and walked straight up to the Maybach."Get out," I snapped at Molly.Everyone stared at me like I'd lost my mind."Get out? Molly's been supporting her out of charity, and she actually has the nerve to tell Molly to get out of her own car? Is she crazy?""She's living off Molly's money and still talks to her like that? Talk about ungrateful!"Molly's expression darkened. Her eyes reddened, but she made no move to get out."Amber, do you really have to embarrass me like this? We're classmates. Is this really necessary? Whatever you want to say, we can talk about it when we get home."I'm hungry, and if we don't leave soon, dinner's going to get cold."She spoke so quietly that only I could hear her. To everyone else, she just looked like she was on the verge of tears.Naturally, they assumed I was bullying her and immediately rushed to her defense. They called me ungrateful, saying Molly had supported me all this time and this was how I repaid her.Molly had al
